Wedding dress... I didn't think this through

Getting married in a small ceremony this weekend, just me and DP and 4 family members, I've got a dress, long white, feels nice on, but it's too long, even with heels. It's far too late to get it altered, any genius ideas on how I can hold it off the floor so I can actually walk? I've tried googling and cannot find an idea I can make work in the space of 4 days.

Cannot sew to save my life.

Cannot afford another dress.

Feel really bloody stupid now

I would use double-sided sticky tape. Lay your dress (the skirt) out flat and inside-out on a clean table. Start with doing the pettycoat, that will give you some practice. Then do the skirt itself. Just stick the tape flush with the hem, then peal off the protective paper and fold over to the inside of the dress - after measuring the right lenght of course. You might stick pins to mark the line so your new lenght is nice and even.
i know for sure this trick is used in fashion photoshoots!

Fingers crossed. Good luck!

What about an underskirt with a hoop, takes it up a bit and also away from your feet and legs? It’s potentially not that kind of dress mind you

Would something like this work?

(Lose the hat though)

You've all been so helpful thank you!

Will let you know if the sewing lady can help

If not... I may just tuck it into my knickers like ladies on the beach in olden days

Something like these would work, you can make your skirts any length you need and they're pretty so would look like they're meant to be there x

Get 2 massive safety pins (or more) and pin inside to make it sort of ruched on each leg, enough not to let it trip you up. Use more of needed but keep it even on both sides. That and platforms. Good luck!!

I shortened a prom dress like that for a friend, it was literally an hour with an overlocker to do the rolled hem. I'm sure your sewing lady will be able to do it.

As a last resort you could trim some wonderweb to say 1cm wide and trim and press a tiny hem. That's quite fiddly if you are not confident sewing though.

They don't have the one I bought but it's similar to this, it's not silk at all don't know where my brain was at, it's more chiffonish
The body bit is more fitted below the boob but. But yeah the skirt is like that one

That dress is very pretty.

Exactly! My narrow zigzag is a poor mans rolled hem. Try the stitch out on the scraps you have cut off. I do a dozen of these a year. Good luck and congratulations!

Stand with the dress on , hold it as wide as you can, you need to find on the hem where the left side seam would be.
Sew a small loop of elastic , enough to fit over your middle finger just inside the hem.
slip the elastic over your finger when yo walk or dance to hold the hem off the floor
