Would you judge me?

Going through my MiL's bags yesterday ( she recently passed away) and found a "Prada" bag. I know it's a fake as nothing other than the plaque is branded, but it's a really nice bag. It's also well made, not excellently though.

I'm considering using it and as it's so obviously a fake I was wondering if designer bag afficionados would judge me , or would no one notice.

Use the bag, who cares what anyone else thinks.

Okaydonkey · 23/03/2023 10:05

An obvious fake, I might clock as a fake. However, I wouldn’t judge you.

It’s just a bag at the end of the day

LadyKenya · 23/03/2023 10:10

Would the fact that they may judge you stop you from using the bag? If so, why?

MargotDeWitt · 23/03/2023 10:13

Is the bag attractive? Can we see a photo?

GettingStuffed · 23/03/2023 10:15

In answer to why, I used to have bad self esteem but I'm working on it but I hate thinking people are judging me

Someone will judge you if they know their bags and see it close enough for inspection of course some will. There are songs mocking people with fake bags.
I wouldn't wear fake. It's not good for your self esteem. It's telling the world you're poor and materialistic.

NevieSticks · 23/03/2023 10:19

You are thinking that people are walking about trying to read the brands of handbags in the normal course of a day?

notangelinajolie · 23/03/2023 10:30

Do people pay that much attention to other people's bags? Does anyone really care? I would have thought not but I'm open to be wrong on that.

When you say people, do you have a particular person or persons in mind?

AmusableDragon · 23/03/2023 10:50

OP If you like the bag, it makes you feel good, looks good and you'll get some use out of it then use it! It's not about anyone else just you. As for the comment above that it will make you look 'poor and materialistic' 🙄 That's says a whole lot more about the people who make such assumptions and nothing about you. Use the bag!

ShirleyPhallus · 23/03/2023 10:52

I’d judge you more for going through MIL’s stuff if you’re not allowed to?!

Otherwise use the bag. Too much stuff thrown away in the world as it is.

SocksAndTheCity · 23/03/2023 10:55

Can you take the plaque off or cover it up? Then it's just a lovely bag that isn't from Prada (which is what it is now, but without the counterfeiting) 😊

JofraArchersFastestBall · 23/03/2023 10:57

Why on earth do you think OP is going through her MIL's belongings without permission? Sounds more likely that she's taken on the necessary but difficult task of sorting out her belongings after she's passed away.

Wear the bag OP. I, and the vast majority of people, don't notice labels and wouldn't know a fake prada bag if it bit us on the arse. Anyone judging you (poor but materialistic?! As opposed to what? Rich and materialistic? So what?) isn't worth worrying about.

GettingStuffed · 23/03/2023 10:58

As I said she's recently deceased so as executor of her estate I have plenty of reasons for going through her stuff.

Just from a using a bag already in the cycle, as opposed to buying a new one, I would use it, and feel good doing so. People who would judge me, would not be worth the headspace thinking about them.

Hoppinggreen · 23/03/2023 11:04

I might judge a bit as I would assume you had bought it yourself and that potentially supports illegal activity.
Thats assuming I realised it was a fake

Most people wouldn't recognise a designer bag, and those who would judge aren't worth knowing anyway. Use it if you like it.

My Mum recently died and while technically I am not supposed to take any of her stuff before probate is granted I am currently wearing a couple of her rings (with my brothers agreement)

It was just a stupid joke. Forgot to put an emoji or something

PurpleParrots · 23/03/2023 11:10

I wouldn’t even notice your bag. Would anyone judge someone for what bag they have? 😳

If you want to use the bag OP just use it. Your choice of bag/shoes/clothes is nobody else’s business

RicciardoPerez · 23/03/2023 11:31

I have a designer handbag which I see more fakes than the real thing (Can tell by the shade of red on the strap lining). I don't judge people at all. They will be many reasons some people have fakes and who am I to judge for that?

OP, Use and wear the bag with pride :)

ps, I only have the real thing because my family all chipped in for a big birthday. If I didn't have this, I'd be on a well known Chinese replica site buying a replica (like the YSL LouLou bag I'm eyeing up at £80 lol)

MistyFrequencies · 23/03/2023 11:40

Honestly i would judge. I do clock fakes (love bags) and always judge those people carrying them as shallow and materialistic for wanting to appear to have a designer bag. Or just stupid for not realising its a fake. But i am a judgy pants.

crochetmonkey74 · 23/03/2023 12:01

I wouldn't worry OP
No one notices realistically speaking and also- who cares about fakes? The designer bag market is ridiculous (and I speak as someone who has a real Chanel) My friend has a fake one and they are indiscernible when sitting on a coffee shop table. Use it and remember her- and enjoy it!

crochetmonkey74 · 23/03/2023 12:03

ignore nasty posters - judging someone by the bag they have is stupid either way, positive or negative.

But it's alright to want to have a designer bag if you have the money for it?
That makes no sense!

The very first line states that her mother-in-law has died!
