Do you still wear leggings and if so - with what?

I was just sorting out my wardrobe over the weekend and realised I no longer have any leggings. I haven't worn them in a long time now, even around the house I wear wide legged jersey 'lounge pants' or pj bottoms.

Similarly I had no jeans at all until last month when I bought a pair of wide legged COS jeans.

There was a time when I wore leggings a lot, mainly under dresses / tunics.

It's funny how things come and go..

Pregnant, and can't get comfy in anything else other than joggers (which I can't go out in).

So yes, but only because of bump.

Generally though, only gym leggings. Basically lived in them, though.

Exactly, @Unicornsaregreat - the leggings with dresses look was declared "over" 13 years ago. Of course people can wear what they want to wear, but yes it does look extremely dated.

I think a lot of people who say they wear them under dresses are wearing them under long dresses, and with boots, in a way that nobody knows they're wearing leggings, or that they look like tights.

PedroPascal · 22/03/2023 22:18

I wear leggings/treggings pretty much every day.

I'm so surprised how many people wear gym leggings out and about and say they are comfortable. I have never worn comfy gym leggings in my life. They go on for exercise and immediately off after.

If I'm staying at home or just doing the school run I wear joggers. Leggings and a long hoody are for if I'm feeling fancy Blush

And the fact that you can afford to pay for an overpriced brand makes a difference because?

Blimey, touched a nerve there. Literally everyone saying which brand they wear on here .

MarchMadness23 · 22/03/2023 23:40

PropellerDance · 21/03/2023 19:18

Also - wearing them with skirts or dresses is not a great look 😬

How old are you OP?

@PropellerDance

How old are you? You're very judgemental & WRONG. I'm 54 and I know several of the posters that say they wear them a lot are over 50.

You sound about 14.

TheChosenTwo · 23/03/2023 00:41

I wear them loads. Gym ones usually which encourages me to either go to the gym during my lunch break or straight after work, even just for a walk at lunch. I find I’m more included to go if I’m dressed and ready.
wfh mostly now and just need to be comfortable.
I wear them with oversized baggy sweatshirts or just a long tshirt, I hate having my bum on show (although I don’t give this a second thought when I’m at the gym and have a gym top on underneath).
I used to wear a lot of dresses with full length leggings but boots so you couldn’t see I wasn’t wearing tights, don’t really wear this anymore. Mainly though because I’m lazy and live in trainers as much as humanly possible 😂

BlueBlue72 · 23/03/2023 02:42

I always wear them. Under dresses and skirts. I use to wear tights but they always rolled down over my tummy or I was forever hoiking them up as the gusset would work it's way down my legs. A friend at work suggested them instead of tights and I've not looked back. Never been confident enough to wear them over a long jumper/top because I feel like I look like (and feel like) I've forgotten to put something on my bottom half... Even though others look fine wearing this combination.

Giggorata · 23/03/2023 06:23

I have tons of black leggings, which I wear under dresses.
I'm over 60 and wear dresses at knee length, mostly longer, some with side splits. The comfort of leggings compared to tights is incredible. I only ever wear tights at more formal occasions now.
I have several really lurid patterned leggings which mostly get worn around the house under long baggy jumpers and tops, occasionally out under a longer dress, if I feel like it.
I’ve never worn leggings as if they were trousers, with my bum on show. No one would thank me for that.

EspeciallyDedicated · 23/03/2023 06:54

Over 50 and wear them a lot in winter (I'm another who can't bear tights). I wear thick black cotton ones with a short stretchy black skirt, black ankle boots and baggy jumpers/sweatshirts. I also wear sports ones with trainers on days I'm going to the gym, usually paired with a longline vest and warmer layers to cover my bum which I change for a gym top when I'm ready to go. You see a LOT of Sweaty Betty ones around here.

Bigminnie1 · 23/03/2023 07:17

I love them- so comfy. Wear them with a hoody and trainers or sweatshirt and trainers.

Firefly2023 · 23/03/2023 08:57

This is more what I meant although this is a bit fussy for me. This is probably the shortest I go for tops with leggings and most of my dresses are longer. They are not waisted like that dreadful dress in the Guardian article and I generally only wear them with long boots.

Do you still wear leggings and if so - with what?
JackGrealishsLegs · 23/03/2023 09:25

Wearing some today for work. A black Wolford pair (am I allowed to mention the brand?) with very chunky black Chelsea boots, a cream oversized silk shirt to cover the bum and a beige faux shearling gilet.

Agree the sports leggings + sports socks + trainers look is prevalent at the moment.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 23/03/2023 09:41

Showing my age but in early 90s I wore Oxford shirts (big oversized business men’s shirts) with black leggings and either white trainers or loafer shoes. Still wear this look sometimes.

LolaSmiles · 23/03/2023 11:55

GonnaGetGoingReturns
I really like that look.
One of my favourite jumpers at the moment is a thrifted vintage (old) men's merino wool M&S one.

Worn with leggings and converse takes me back to being a university student and it's so comfortable.

Cincinnatus · 23/03/2023 15:10

I wouldn’t wear them out of the house. I wear them casually in the house with an oversized jumper.

xogossipgirlxo · 24/03/2023 15:48

Only at home when I'm about to work out. I never leave the house wearing leggings, God forbid with tunics or dresses.

guineverechypre · 24/03/2023 16:58

I'm off work and wearing leggings at home today. Burgundy sports leggings (yoga). I've done a bit of exercise but that's the excuse. They're very comfortable.

CommuterMummy · 24/03/2023 17:29

I wear the yoga/activewear type to either be around the house or go to do local errands or the gym. Always with trainers and a sweatshirt or jumper.
I don’t wear them under dresses as I used to 15 years ago iuswim

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 08/04/2023 16:10

You know; this thread has actually made me re-evaluate leggings, as some of the outfits on here actually sounded really nice. So I wore some today, plain black ones with trainers, a white vest top and a collarless linen shirt over that. I actually think for a casual weekend outing with the kids and the dog, it was a pretty good choice, and perfect for the "slightly warmer but still not that warm" weather we've been having.

taleasolasgrime · 08/04/2023 17:33

I wear them loads since lockdown. I have loads of sensory issues and struggle with waistbands.

Am also an apple shape with a pudgy belly and cracking legs and arse. As long as my top is long enough to hide my belly I'm quite happy to be seen in (thick, opaque) leggings.

https://amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2010/jun/19/dress-leggings-fashion-cartner-morley

an example of the dress over leggings look that I don’t personally like, think this looks very dated

I still really like this look! Am I the only one left?Grin

Crikeyalmighty · 08/04/2023 19:27

@michaelmacrae nope, I love it- I am obviously seriously unfashionable- but at61 I don't give a shit

TheLostNights · 08/04/2023 23:17

I live in them.
Don't care if people think it's outdated. They are so comfy. Fed up of jeans at the moment. Sizing is all over the place and they never seem to fit well. Either come up uncomfortably high or when you sit down, they are too low and show off all your bum. I'm at that age now where I don't want to be endlessly searching for the perfect jeans. Just want to be comfortable .

BluebellBlueballs · 09/04/2023 00:29

Lifeblood of my wardrobe

With a t shirt and short skirt, tunic or dress

Basically a second skin for my legs
