Do you still wear leggings and if so - with what?

I was just sorting out my wardrobe over the weekend and realised I no longer have any leggings. I haven't worn them in a long time now, even around the house I wear wide legged jersey 'lounge pants' or pj bottoms.

Similarly I had no jeans at all until last month when I bought a pair of wide legged COS jeans.

There was a time when I wore leggings a lot, mainly under dresses / tunics.

It's funny how things come and go..

Any links to nice longline tops for over leggings please?

michaelmacrae · 20/03/2023 21:11

I live in mine! With a hoodie, trainers, boots etc. They're part of my work-from-home-and-anything-casual arsenal.

Autienotnautie · 20/03/2023 21:26

I wear them most days with dresses.

HowdoIgetbacktothe80s · 20/03/2023 21:30

I live in mine. I also wear faux leather ones a lot. I wear them with dm style boots or trainers and oversized jumpers, sweatshirts or shirts with an oversize blazer. I follow Model Mouth on YT, she has several videos showing different ways to wear leggings and they all look fab.

I wear them with dresses in the winter, they're warmer than tights and less annoying.

What leggings are you wearing that are warmer than tights? I've been wearing snags wool tights, leggings don't come close (I realise snag is controversial here, but I'm just naming them)

borntobequiet · 21/03/2023 05:50

I’ve been wearing leggings (or jeggings) since the mid 1980s, mostly with big jumpers, oversized T shirts or tunics, but sometimes with a cropped item or short jacket because my bum and legs are in excellent shape. I update with shoes, boots and bags. Leggings are generally a just little bit behind or in front of the current fashion curve, so never look out of place.

I can't stand Snag, they just fall down. I haven't tried the wool Snag tights but Love Leggings brand is thick, not see through, and very warm.

bellswithwhistles · 21/03/2023 10:01

Can't understand why anyone would wear leggings -unless they're 10.

Awful things. You can see everyone's cellulite!

They're the first tights I've ever had which stayed up at the crotch. It used to end up at my knees.

Great I'll have to have a look thanks

drspouse · 21/03/2023 10:15

I can't get Snag tights to stay up. I wear Falke, I've had a couple of my pairs for 15+ years.

Netcam · 21/03/2023 10:34

I've worn leggings for years and I love them. I'm petite, size 10/12 and slightly curvy with big chest and hips. I find trousers that fit and look good so hard to find, especially summer ones that I can't cover the top of with a big jumper. So my summer default trousers for years have been cotton leggings. I also have lots of wool leggings for colder weather. I find them much more comfy than trousers.

However. I'm now 53 and despite my efforts I am starting to think it is not a great look with my post menopausal body shape. So I am finding ways to keep wearing my leggings a bit more gracefully. So far I have found short stretchy skirts or long cardigans/jumpers work quite well.

I used to wear tunics over the top of them but have kind of gone off that look. I've been searching for summer petite trousers I find comfy and I can just wear with a t-shirt as an alternative option. But I will always keep my leggings for home, gardening, exercise and when I can cover my bum with a skirt or long cardigan/jumper.

Falke are amazing, I wear the softmerino ones and they last forever.

I wear Icebreaker, Smartwool or Dilling leggings in the colder weather, they are all merino leggings and warmer than my Falke softmerino tights. My favourite are the Smartwool thermal 100% merino 250 thickness ones.

dontgobaconmyheart · 21/03/2023 11:03

I wear them a lot at home as loungewear, with some sort of oversized jumper. I just find them really comfortable but it's increasingly hard to find a decent pair that are thick, not see through and have some integrity to the fabric so they don't say or loosen with wear.

I've never worn them outside the house though (bar the odd urgent ans very quick errand or to a GP appt when very ill, say,.and even then would only do it if if chucked a long coat over the top. I can't imagine ever wearing them out as part of an outfit and don't regard them as trousers in and of themselves. I'd much rather wear tights if I'm wearing a dress and it's cold.

wibblewobbleball · 21/03/2023 11:12

I wear leggings nearly every day at home, I like a very soft pair from Amazon and have 6 pairs Blush It's a sensory thing I think. I wear them with black longline vests and a thin jumper if I'm not going anywhere. I don't wear them out of the house that often.

Crikeyalmighty · 21/03/2023 11:24

@Netcam honestly I think leggings look great with the right tops and boots. I like wrap dresses

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 21/03/2023 11:28

I wear black gym leggings to work and other gym style leggings with trainers and sweatshirts at the weekends.

Regular leggings I don't wear anymore. I wear tights with dresses.

Agree some leggings look great either dresses. Kind of depends on the dress and the leggings.

I wear sweaty Betty leggings most days. So for school run, supermarket, work from home. With a hoody.

DrMeredithGrey2023 · 21/03/2023 11:40

I wear black yoga leggings almost daily. With oversized sweaters, sports socks and high tops.

I was on the school run earlier and saw a school girl wearing basically the same as me.

I'm 37.

Need to lose a few lbs and find my style again maybe.

And the fact that you can afford to pay for an overpriced brand makes a difference because?

Their 'all day' leggings then?

I prefer that brand but only wear the power, super sculpt and yoga leggings for different activities.

Fifi1010 · 21/03/2023 11:56

I wear gym leggings stopped wearing the jersey ones after I lost weight 😳. They were so comfy !!!

campingmama · 21/03/2023 12:01

Only for the gym or a dog walk but even on a dog walk have to style them right with a hoodie long line padded gilet etc. in case I bump into people, I'd hate them to think I had just thrown in the nearest thing to me!
My skid's live in nike pros and crops which looks great on their age group.

GettingStuffed · 21/03/2023 12:05

I wear them instead of tights
