Shoeless and clueless

I am going to a vair nice restaurant in a few weeks - countryside Michelin starred joint - special present and the first time in EIGHT YEARS I have had a night away with my husband without children...

I have bought this dress - www.ghost.co.uk/meryl-dress10-d05g002-l57#/mz-expanded-view-1662693627830 - and I am stumped for what shoes to wear with it. Can anybody help?! I would like not to look too try hard but heels are OK as we're staying over so bed is only a stumble away 😂

Even just an idea of style would be so helpful!

I’d wear it with trainers but I wear everything with trainers, can’t wear heels at all

NotMeNoNo · 17/03/2023 19:11

What about some Mary Janes like they have styled it in the picture?

I agree, something similar to what they've styled it with.

rosettesforjill · 17/03/2023 19:34

Thanks all! I will look at Mary Janes - I did try to see if I could find something similar but nothing was quite as nice as the shoes in the picture (and I have quite short legs so have to be a bit careful with where the strap sits). I might need to do some real life shopping and see what's out there!

What about a shoe boot with a wedge?

OnTheThames · 17/03/2023 20:29

I like the Mary Jane’s with it! It’s a gorgeous dress.

KirstenBlest · 17/03/2023 20:32

If you scroll through the different colours, they show a few different styles of footwear.

worklifebalancehelp · 17/03/2023 20:51

That's a beautiful dress. I'd go black block heel open toe 'barely there' shoes. No distraction from the dress.

CarrieBradshaw90 · 17/03/2023 21:25

Styles such as;

Gucci Marmont Sandals

Dior Slingbacks

Beautiful dress. Enjoy! ♥️

Agiftandacurse · 17/03/2023 22:23

I’d go neon yellow as I think it goes so well with burgundy and is a bit more spring/summer and less formal than black.

dress is gorgeous!

something like this:

I agree with this - something classic that lets the dress be the main event. Something like this:

www.newlook.com/uk/womens/footwear/shoes/occasion-shoes/wide-fit-black-strappy-block-heel-sandals/p/681665601

or if you want to go flat/smaller heel, any sort of black strappy sandal. You could go totally flat:

or kitten heel:

What is your size and height OP?

LilylilyDaisy · 17/03/2023 23:41

I love Mary Janes but I think they can be really hard to get right without being frumpy or make the overall look too vintage.

I would probably go for a court heeled sandal, maybe like Dune Morra in gold or the Mattie in black. Not saying those are perfect but a simple heeled stiletto sandal (nothing fussy or diamanté or multiple straps etc, which would cheapen the look). I think the dress is beautiful but a demure shoe like a Mary Jane might make the overall look including the dress demure. On the other hand these days people do wear blocks and flats and trainers, anything goes really, but it depends on whether you're going for an "out out" look or still dressy but slightly less obvious sort of look (ie heeled boots, which are also a good option but can be unflattering on the ankles).

Personally for me, the number of nights out where I can go for an "out out" look will dwindle as I get older so I'm appreciating the opportunity to wear those sorts of looks when I still can!

Zooeyzebra · 18/03/2023 01:42

What about something like this, flat but glam

I'm 5'3, size 4.5-5 shoes (I assume you mean shoe size rather than dress size!)

I really like the clogs on the pale blue version. Makes the dress look more funky and trendy

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/03/2023 08:07

Gorgeous dress.

I'd wear it with either leopard print slingbacks with a block heel or flat, or with something like this maybe.

hulahoopqueen · 18/03/2023 08:19

I'd go for something like this, more understated than the MJs they've styled it with :)

Shoeless and clueless
Kilpitlees · 18/03/2023 08:43

Hi. Try Mod Shoes, quite a few option there I think, One option

turnthebiglightoff · 18/03/2023 09:37

I'd go for pointed navy suede heels, a suede nude heel or a gold open toe / sandal heel.

I think black shoes with non black dresses look hideous, and block heels / stubby fronted shoes are my particular hatred at the moment!!

OP you need a pair of Esskas!

esskashoes.com

The sandals or the closed toe shoes would suit that dress!

Wow lovely shoes on that site. OP have a look at the closed toe 70s shoes, particularly the metallic ones.
