Daily SPF 50 that you can actually wear every day?

I've started using trentinoin at night so need to use sunscreen consistently. I never really used sunscreen before unless at the beach or something, hence a lot of sun damage.

I've tried some different brands, and never really got in the habit of wearing sunscreen daily like you're supposed to. Mostly because I didn't want to be at work etc with a white flaky film all over my face and neck.

Lately I've splashed out on a few sample sizes of better brands and they're ridiculous. The latest was £15 for a small bottle of Boots no7 advanced whatever, put it on and gave it a while to settle, ended up with again a scaly and pilly white sheen. It stings like anything too. I mean I'd wear it at the beach but I have to be presentable at work.

Any recommendations or should I just get a big hat?

Ummm I put it under my eyes and under my brows but o never put it directly on my eyelids. It’s just not something I tend to do I don’t think.

practicepracticepractice · 02/03/2023 23:11

Biore watery essence (ebay) or SUPERGOOP! UNSEEN SUNSCREEN SPF 30 (had it in my advent calendar and love, but more £££)
They don't feel like normal sunscreen, much lighter.

Biore Watery Essence if you can get it. Bondi sands is brilliant if you like a glowy look.

Altruist and garnier dupe of la Roche posay are great if you don’t have sensitive eyes.

Tried loads of these but found this the best, also cheap!

Ultra Violette Screen Queen. It’s in a dropper, smells lovely and gives you a glow. They often have buy one get one free offers. Australian brands tend to be good.

irisretic · 02/03/2023 23:22

I don’t like LRP as it is too watery, as is Biore. I like Nuxe, SPF 50 it’s more creamy and stays put. However, it isn’t cheap. I did get an offer on it last year but nowhere to be seen at the moment. I have to wear year round because of skin cancer.

Nivea UV Face Anti-Ageing SPF50. I've been using it for years. No residue, & feels nice on skin

DeeCeeCherry · 02/03/2023 23:27

Forgot to add Nivea is around £12 online but £7 in Sainsburys

SheisMammyof2 · 02/03/2023 23:53

@toucaninjapan I don't put it around my eyes, never occurred to me tbh. I wear UV glasses and a hat in summer.

toucaninjapan · 03/03/2023 00:43

Thank you for the replies @Delphigirl and @SheisMammyof2
I do wear a hat, but not all the time, sometimes it's too wind/hot for it (I'm in Asia), and UV glasses ruin my makeup where they touch the skin because I sweat a lot there (is it just me that has this problem? 😢). Plus I can't imagine wearing sunglasses on a rainy and windy day, or inside the office where office buildings reflect the sunlight in your face, that's why I've been putting a sunscreen on my eyelids too until now 🤔

Are any of these cruelty free please?

Altruist is.

Blossomed · 03/03/2023 05:44

Cerave AM daily facial moisturiser is great. Non-greasy, easy to rub in etc. it’s just like a normal moisturiser but SPF50

May I ask you ladies if you don't mind, if you are using LRP, do you apply it around your eyes or not?
I'm using the La Roche-Posay Sunscreen BB Cream and it says you shouldn't apply it around your eyes, so I have to put another sunscreen on my eyelids which is a hassle honestly.

No but I don’t wear eye cream anyway as it irritates me. I suppose I put in under and round just not on eyelids as it makes my eyes run and my mascara stick. I work on the basis that if it was that sunny I’d have sunglasses on!

touterustome · 03/03/2023 05:53

Frezyderm 50 velvet is like a primer consistency so works well under make up. No sheen, no pilling. I wear it all summer.

Heliocare oil free gel 360 is a liquid but dries matte. I like it as another option. Not good if you have dry skin but great if a bit oily on t zone.

I got these both after recommendations on here. Can't get on with lrp but I know lots of people like it. Altruist is fine but too shiny for me.

2023username · 03/03/2023 08:47

Actually I’ve just realised I don’t need an Spf50 so much as an spf 15-30 as I work indoors but burn easily so want a small degree of protection for popping outdoors or maybe a lunchtime walk. The spf50 I do really rate is the beauty pie one but i am not a member any more and don’t want to sign up to buy one thing.
Anyway if anyone has a recommendation for a daily face cream with less spf please post.

I like to wear primer, do any of these pill with primer?

As @touterustome says, Frezyderm feels like a primer in itself and gives a lovely smooth finish. I've not tried putting primer on top of it though.

ArianahX · 03/03/2023 10:19

Thanks

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 03/03/2023 10:22

@2023username I use the CeraVe daily facial moisturiser with SPF50 but they also do it in SPF25. I absolutely love it, no white cast, no piling and no stingy eyes! It's £15 in Boots and they have a 3 for 2 promotion on at the moment.

Ice been looking for a good facial SPF for so long. Mostly, they leave my skin looking like I've dunked my head into a chip pan. This one doesn't, and it doesn't leave me any reside, either.

It's by a French brand called Oh My Cream Skincare. Crème Solaire SPF 50+. I believe they have a branch in London but I ordered online.

I think it was £25 so not cheap, but worth it for me.

Some great ideas here - thank you - I’m going to look into these next.

I found a sample of Kiehls spf 50 just now and it does have a white tinge, so definitely not a winner for me, not sure if the lesser spf version would though.

I’ve also been trawling the web for inspiration as I really want a daily spf that isn’t just a sunscreen but feels like a daily treat for my skin. Maybe asking too much. Has anyone tried the Nars spf primer? It’s not cheap but I like the idea of it making my skin look better but without it being tinted as I like to go make up free sometimes.

Mol1628 · 03/03/2023 12:44

I use cerave. First decent moisturiser I’ve found that doesn’t give me spots!

AllOfThemWitches · 03/03/2023 12:49

Does everyone use sunscreen and then moisturiser on top?

Other way round. Sunscreen last.

Garnier spf 50 spray. You spray it over makeup.

Yes I've started using this, it seems good
