Daily SPF 50 that you can actually wear every day?

I've started using trentinoin at night so need to use sunscreen consistently. I never really used sunscreen before unless at the beach or something, hence a lot of sun damage.

I've tried some different brands, and never really got in the habit of wearing sunscreen daily like you're supposed to. Mostly because I didn't want to be at work etc with a white flaky film all over my face and neck.

Lately I've splashed out on a few sample sizes of better brands and they're ridiculous. The latest was £15 for a small bottle of Boots no7 advanced whatever, put it on and gave it a while to settle, ended up with again a scaly and pilly white sheen. It stings like anything too. I mean I'd wear it at the beach but I have to be presentable at work.

Any recommendations or should I just get a big hat?

I use CeraVe facial moisturising lotion AM SPF50. Love it, wear under makeup with no issues at all. No stingy eyes or reactions (my skin can sometimes react badly to spf)

I love Coola classic face sunscreen SPF 50 in white tea. It feels amazing on and kind to my skin.

Hi, I would recommend Heliocare, for me the best. The trick to avoid the white layer look is to not buy cream but gel. Many known brands have both options and gel will absorb better where cream can sit on your skin, hence piling etc.

TheOGCCL · 02/03/2023 20:36

Another one for Eucerin oil control but there are lots of good ones. Definitely no need for pilling, flaking or greasiness. Find one you can afford to keep buying as you'll need to use it forever and not scrimp on application.

Re reapplying, I think that is overkill if you are inside most of the day in the UK. But I like the ambre solaire mist which doesn't disturb make up, if out in a lot of sun.

Another vote for altruist! It feels light, it doesn’t feel sticky or leave me looking really shiny. Also doesn’t irritate my eyes. I don’t wear foundation, but I can wear it with or without moisturiser and it doesn’t pill or leave a white cast (I am however naturally very pale)

I tried the beautypie one but it left me feeling oily, and it irritated my eyes. I used to like the ambre solait face fluid but on balance I prefer the altruist one.

I recommend Gruum daily defence lotion, it's more like a lightweight moisturiser, I have v sensitive skin and eczema and I find it really good.

BeautyPie Featherlight SPF 50. Really sophisticated formula and so easy to wear

Ultra violette

I use a product from Paula's Choice for my face. I have to use it everyday. I find the SPF50 doesn't sit on my skin. I also have a spray from this range to top up in the day when out.

Frezyderm Velvet Face SPF50:

https://www.frezyderm.co.uk/sun-care/face-sunscreens/sun-screen-velvet-face-spf-50/

It's lightweight, and leaves no white cast or greasy sheen at all. I use it over moisturiser, but I do have very dry skin.

Has anyone tried Kiehls spf 30 or 50?

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 02/03/2023 21:39

I tried the Kiehls's spf 50 (the one with the orange stripe) and I liked it well enough (although didn't think it was amazing) but not enough for the price. If you're using the proper amount of spf every day you'd get through a tube a month and I set £20 as my limit.

Thanks MurderAtTheBeautyPageant!

Those who say they wear make-up under or over the sunscreen…isn’t it a bit pointless to wear both?
I always thought that make-up (such as full foundation) shields the skin from the sun anyway…

TinyCactusInAPot · 02/03/2023 22:14

There are essentially 2 types of sunscreen

chemical and mineral

the mineral type contains titanium dioxide (I think) which casts the white cast

the chemical one is where it’s at

They are more pricey, but you don’t get the whiteness

redteapot · 02/03/2023 22:14

I have used the Heliocare oil-free gel for years and would definitely recommend it.

Thestresssolution · 02/03/2023 22:15

Are any of these cruelty free please?

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/03/2023 22:16

Frezyderm is excellent, lovely, smooth matt finish. The tinted one is as good as foundation.

WhereAreWeNow · 02/03/2023 22:19

I use the a Vichy one - UV Age 50. It's great. Really thin milky consistency which doesn't mess up make up, doesn't sting, doesn't look white.

meganorks · 02/03/2023 22:22

I like the Nivea face one called Shine Control. (similar to the one linked before). Its pretty cheap and I had a Korean brand before (Happy Farmer or something!?) that made me super shiney, hence I went for shine control. I tried another one they had - Dark Spot Control or something, which is 'luminous'. I'm finding it fine at moment but when I had a bit of a tan I think the luminous was putting a bit of a white film over my skin

Donnaslayer · 02/03/2023 22:30

Beauty of Joseon broad-spectrum SPF 50+ PA++++ to fend off UVA and UVB rays, organic sunscreen comes in a lightweight and quick-absorbent texture that doesn’t leave a white cast.

Altruist Dermatologist Sunscreen Fluid SPF 50 UVA protection by Dr Andrew Birnie

I use both on myself and also put them on my toddlers face with no issues xxx

HappyBirthdayLydia · 02/03/2023 22:31

This stuff
Lightweight, absorbed beautifully and no breakouts!

NotLovingWFH · 02/03/2023 22:32

Nivea Shine Control is brilliant. Cheap, available in supermarkets and is a moisturiser too. No pilling under makeup but looks fine on its own too.

May I ask you ladies if you don't mind, if you are using LRP, do you apply it around your eyes or not?
I'm using the La Roche-Posay Sunscreen BB Cream and it says you shouldn't apply it around your eyes, so I have to put another sunscreen on my eyelids which is a hassle honestly.
