If you increased the amount of water you drink, have you noticed a difference?

I am very bad at drinking water and liquids in general when it’s cold and would like to motivate myself more. I know all the benefits etc but I want to understand whether you have had some tangible benefits after a short while?
My skin is always dull and my eves always look tired these days, could that also be a sign of dehydration for example?

I’d like to know the same! In the summer I drink a lot more water to keep cool, but in the winter I barely drink any! However I do drink plenty of tea (to keep warm mostly). I feel so lethargic at the moment that I’m wandering if drinking water will help! My skin is dry and flakey too! I absolutely despise the winter and being cold I just can’t be bothered to do anything :(

So, I've been making a big effort with this as I've known for years I don't drink enough - but I'm an extreme case, as in I can literally go all day without drinking at all. I was getting recurring UTI so invested in one of those fruit water flasks with markers to drink a certain amount by a time each day. I can't say I've noticed any real difference to hair / skin etc, which I'd hoped for a glow or something! But I haven't had any UTIs since either....

So I usually have bad skin and during my pregnancies however in my last third trimester, I had an extreme thirst I just couldn't quench. I was drinking about 3-4 litres everyday and my skin has never looked so good! It completely cleared up and was glowing and definitely wasn't a pregnancy glow because that's never happened before. As soon as I stopped drinking as much my skin went back to normal and spots came back. I'm going to try drinking more again.

I find that my eyes look brighter within days of drinking more water. Tea, coffee etc. just don’t hack it.

This thread has got me determined to up my water intake from today. Anybody care to join me? Let’s report back, S and B enthusiasts, with our findings!

Plump82 · 26/02/2023 18:54

I drink a lot of water as I feel of aids my weight loss however I do also notice when I really make an effort that my skin clears up.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 26/02/2023 18:55

Fuck it I’m in. I drank a coffee, a hot choc and a glass of water today.

Less than ideal, unsurprisingly my skins shocking at the moment.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 26/02/2023 18:55

Nope. No difference at all for me. I also drink about 2-3 litres a day in the summer just to keep cool, but in the winter I doubt I drink a litre a day ( and that would be in tea to keep warm, rather than actual water).

The best benefits I've seen to my skin have been through using Tretinoin and vitamin C.

Ellewoods20 · 26/02/2023 18:57

It’s not as simple as drinking more water. I drink at least 3 litres of water each day and eat well and I still have spots 🤷‍♀️ If it works for you that’s great but it won’t work for everyone.

Marghe87 · 26/02/2023 19:08

I am not thinking about spots much but more in terms of dullness and complexion in general

Oh god… please please drink more water everyone. I’m a total child of the 70/80s ie no water bottles in school etc - I have probably been dehydrated most of my life , so I never felt thirsty as I’m just so used to it. Last summer two massive kidney stones “gave” me sepsis twice in a month; in hospital; ICU;two months with a nephrostomy tube in and I’m still off sick( but on the mend-slowly).
This has scared all my friends into drinking shit loads of water. I’m drinking 2-3 litres a day now ! Noticed the skin on my arms and legs is less dry and I’m glowing despite being totally screwed! 🤣But like other poster I use trentinoin which also helps!
DRINK MORE WATER💙

Wiccan · 26/02/2023 19:11

Definatly less bloating and brighter skin .

Marghe87 · 26/02/2023 19:13

@Beanchops so sorry to hear this! I hope everything is well now💐

I am useless at drinking water as in other than a glass of squash I don't drink any.

Need to some how build up some good habits.

Happy to try and give it a go and report back in a week. My skin on my legs is so try that I get told off for not drinking enough everytime I have my legs waxed

Kranke · 26/02/2023 19:16

I drink loads! I read that drinking too much can actually be bad as it dilutes the nutrients as you’re constantly peeing them out - was just an article so not sure on the scientific basis! My skin has never been spotty, but think that’s my genes as none of my family have had acne issues (they don’t drink anywhere as much as me). My skin is pretty dull thoigh!

Kranke · 26/02/2023 19:17

Oh and my skin is sooooo dry, despite the (average 4l) of water I drink everyday (not including all the tea/coffee/etc).

stilldumdedumming · 26/02/2023 19:18

This recent happy pear podcast is about hydration. My take away is that hydration is not just about drinking water but includes what you drink and how you move. Makes sense to me!

Thank you @Marghe87 Im so much better… it just takes ages (sometimes)to recover.

IWineAndDontDine · 26/02/2023 19:43

Yes! My immune system hugely improved when I started drinking water. Now i drink 2-3 litres in winter and 3-4 in summer. If I drink any less than 2 now I feel lethargic

FizzyFlamingo · 26/02/2023 19:50

I try and drink 2-3ltr a day. In winter I drink it warm/hot which helps. My skin is definitely better if I drink more.

Water in squash is still squash 😁

WeCome1 · 26/02/2023 19:52

Shit, Water! It’s still water!!! 😂😂

tattygrl · 26/02/2023 20:29

I notice a huge difference when I drink lots of water. It's like the absence of discomfort: I feel lighter, moving around feels easier, my head feels clearer, and I've got more energy.

MontalbanoFan · 26/02/2023 20:29

Deedippy, dry skin on legs could mean you’re not taking in enough fats, as well as not enough water.

That's interesting thanks. Will have a look into that
