Really interested in the the new GHD wet to dry styler. Has anyone tried it? Very expensive at £380 but does look good.

I was looking to start the same post so bumping this one.

EsteeLouder · 26/02/2023 21:37

Yes, today...

The jury is still out.

I've just washed and styled my hair and the results are no better than my Dyson/airwrap/Corrale results.

I think I'm might just have shit hair though 😂

I'll come back to this thread and update after a few more uses, but for now I'd say, don't rush into it like I did.

Hth 💇‍♀️

Thanks.
I have wavy hair, I want it sleeker but not poker straight. Keep us posted 😊

Me too, it's ok, my first immediate thought is it's not worth the money, it just didn't give me the results I've seen online.

I'll report back in a couple of days when I re wash and reuse.

What's your hair type?

sillysocks22 · 27/02/2023 18:22

My hair is really thick and long. Just takes forever to style so was hoping this might solve the problem a bit but probably unlikely. Wish there was somewhere to try it out before I invest!

Milabu on YT did a review, didn't look that great tbh

MaskedFan · 27/02/2023 18:52

Mine arrived today and I've just used it. I'm not sure what to think, its quite big and feels fiddly with the placement of the shine button. Having a bit of a nightmare really, i feel hot using it and i felt and heard it pulling on the hair at times which has slightly worried me. I must say it was slightly quicker than usual dry and straightners. I do have a ghd hairdryer and straightners. It has definitely left my hair looking more sleeker than usual. There's 10% off on ghd website, can also use topcashback aswell. I have a referral code for an extra £20ish off of anyone is interested. I'm not sure I 100% recommend it yet though

I don't think it's a game changer. Time wise it took longer than using 2 separate appliances.

I think I'll dry my roots with the airwrap first next time.

I felt hot too! Sweaty hot!

MaskedFan · 27/02/2023 19:02

I wondered if I was hot because I used it straight after the shower or because I put too much pressure on myself

sealon82 · 27/02/2023 19:20

My stepdaughter has one and I tried it out. Not impressed, it doesn't dry the root properly and yanks on the hair. I wouldn't waste your money, I prefer my Babyliss ones that cost £60.

ThePoshUns · 27/02/2023 19:40

That's what I was thinking if it dries the roots?
I might go for m this instead

sillysocks22 · 27/02/2023 20:39

Ooh that BaByliss one does look good! Much more reasonable too....
I think I've been successfully put off parting with all that £ for the GHD ones for now, but updates from those that have them would be good. Sometimes these things just take a bit of getting used to

OP posts:
LancashireSquirrel · 27/02/2023 20:44

I don't have the GHD one but I have seen lots of influencers trying to flog it. It looks like it's going to damage hair, anything that pulls on your hair that much can't be good.

That babyliss one looks amazing!!!

changedforonenightonly · 27/02/2023 21:37

What is it?

MaskedFan · 28/02/2023 11:25

Just updating from my first use last night. This morning I used the shine shot and my hair is incredibly shiny. I also discovered I was holding it facing the wrong way, you want your thumb at the button side. I'm not used to buttons as my ghd straighteners have the button inside the appliance not on the outside. This morning using it the correct way there was no pulling. It does dry the roots, I had no issues with this last night. If the claims are correct and it does use less energy and it does no damage to the hair then I do recommend it. My hair is mid length and fine but there's lots of it

MsRinky · 28/02/2023 17:33

I love it. Was a bit of an impulse buy, but do not regret it. I have never got the hang of blow drying, and my hair is thickish and shoulder length with a vague wave if left to air dry. But I'm 50 now and the greys are increasing and although I don't mind about the colour (and am way too low-maintenance to dye) the difference in texture was just making my whole head look frizzy and crap.

I use a microfibre towel, then have another cuppa so my hair is 80% dry, six sections, takes about 10 minutes and I have soft silky shiny swingy hair for days. Everyone I've seen recently (even on screen via Teams) has noticed and commented on it. Was in a changing room today where they have good mirrors to see yourself from the back and was in there ages admiring my hair.

Hagridy · 02/03/2023 19:53

I’ve used one and what I don’t understand is the shine straightener function. It only has two very narrow plates, so you are straightening the edges of each section but not the middle. I couldn’t really get the hang of it.

MaskedFan · 02/03/2023 21:02

The 2 plates run over the full length so it's basically straightening twice. You don't use it like a crimper, so the middle bit isn't missed.

EsteeLouder · 06/03/2023 19:55

Errr well, this is awkward.

I've just done someone else's hair with these.

She's 24, long (bra strap) length hair. Totally virgin, no die, bleach, perms etc.
Very thick with a definite wave on top and defined curls underneath.

And the GHD Duet was <whispers> amazing.
Her hair looks straight but with body, shiny, sleek - I could go on...

So in conclusion, my original suggestion that my hair is shit us probably right! 😂
