Best bar soap?

Tell me your favourite bar soap, that can be used to wash the whole body in the shower/bath.

Is it better to use an actual soap, or a 'beauty bar' (Dove?) I get thrush easily so I would like a gentle one if possible.

Oliva

Fairislefandango · 25/02/2023 08:27

The only soap you can use on your "bits" are simple soap as in the brand and they're PH neutral. Everything else can give you thrush x

I've always used normal soap and I've never had thrush!

I love Dove even though I know it's technically not a soap. Using Pears for the first time and liking that too. I've got the green one that has a slight lemon flower scent. Not used the orange one yet.

Sooo tempted by the L'occitane QVC deal 🙈

TheDead · 25/02/2023 09:46

I detest Dove. I can't stand the texture or the overpowering smell so never use that.

During lockdown due to soap / gel shortages we got a 4 pack of imperial leather..the smell was very nostalgic reminding me of my childhood & my grandparents house but my god was it harsh! My skin was like sandpaper using it. Plus it turned to a horrible mushy texture v quickly despite having a draining soap dish.

We have used mostly l'occitane for about the past 12 years. One of the huge bars in the shower & a smaller hand soap by thr sink. We like the mens range scents better so usually have them. From time to time I might get a rose scented one for the sink

When we're in italy we usually pick up some Nesti Dante which we also love & we've also had santa Maria novella- amazing scents & beautiful soaps but pricey & didn't last as long as L'Occitane either.

Shield or Irish Spring. I love deodorant soaps.

HorribleHisTories15 · 25/02/2023 20:54

Thank you @Brewskipa . What an unknown find!

ImissLemmings · 25/02/2023 20:57

I like the Dove bar as I can use it to do my face too and I find it doesn’t dry my skin like most soaps

Villagetoraiseachild · 25/02/2023 21:17

Just been on the Chateau du Savon site and one of their soaps is called Fanny.....

newtowelsplease · 25/02/2023 22:11

Another imperial leather fan here, I also like Irish spring and the lemony dettol one.

I splashed out on a l'ocittane one just after Christmas and I'm quite disappointed with it. It's nice enough but doesn't really smell strong enough for my liking and it doesn't lather up much. It's lasting a loooong time though

Claus Porto
'Favorito'
Smells vintage, lasts forever, beautiful packaging.

JennyTheDonkey · 25/02/2023 22:47

Fresh freesia soap www.fresh.com/uk/body/categories/soaps/freesia-oval-soap-H00001216.html
Anything by Claus Porto or Diptyque it I'm feeling flush, L'Occitaine shea for medium spends and Nesti Dante for everyday

TheClitterati · 25/02/2023 22:57

I just buy them from markets/local makers etc. I have a huge stash - so no fav.

I do love the Pears glycerin soap though.

Heldri · 05/03/2023 17:57

Gallinee Cleansing Bar. All Gallinée products are made to match the optimal pH of the skin and the microbiome so safe and gentle all over the body.

Arapawa · 05/03/2023 18:12

These www.toa.st/products/cardamom-glycerine-soap-block-cardamom but I assume they are made in the only Lancashire soap factory. So I'm going there directly next time. Strongly believe we need to buy local.

GuyFawkesDay · 05/03/2023 18:16

I've discovered the fun of making my own! Glycerin soaps are tricky but standard cold processed is not hard if you're sensible and take good safety precautions with the lye

Then you can smell of whatever you do or don't like!

I love going to T K Maxx and choosing loads of lovely soaps from there.

Me too! Esp rhe Italian ones with such beautiful wrapping. Then I put them in my linen drawers :)

Joystir59 · 05/03/2023 18:25

Lavender and citrus soap from The Little Soap Company. I buy them in Sainsbury's

Roxy69 · 05/03/2023 19:12

Waitrose own brand pink grapefruit, divine scent and very reasonably priced.

DidyouNO · 05/03/2023 19:17

Coal tar soap. Just because it smells like my childhood 😂

Moonicorn · 05/03/2023 19:32

Is coal tar that yellow soap that smells of mustard and animal fat? We used to have slithers of it everywhere as kids 😂 all round the bath and on every sink. I saw a meme a while ago with a photo of the soap and caption ‘having to use the same soap as a kid that your dad used to scrub his asshole’ 😆

Oldraver · 05/03/2023 20:15

Currently using Imperial Leather sensitive, not to strong smelly Ng and doesn't irritate

I like Gruum mandarin soap. Smells divine.
Also lux. It is cheap and quite creamy.

leccybill · 05/03/2023 22:12

Does your water type affect soap? I use Imperial Leather and it stays as a bar and lasts for aaaages.

I also like the Soap and Glory soap bar just because I love the smell.

TheTruthWillSetYouFreeMaybe · 05/03/2023 22:19

Love the lemon oil one from Pears. Buy a dozen at a time on Amazon
