Best bar soap?

Tell me your favourite bar soap, that can be used to wash the whole body in the shower/bath.

Is it better to use an actual soap, or a 'beauty bar' (Dove?) I get thrush easily so I would like a gentle one if possible.

Nesti Dante soap is lovely. I hate Dove. I quite like the smell, but it's not proper soap - it has a kknd if simultaneously chalky and slimy texture.

People say that soap is harsh or drying, but I find the opposite. Imo shower gels have all kinds of crap in them.

www.handmadenorfolksoaps.co.uk/
specially the Sea Buckthorn soap.

My skin reacts to all sorts of things, but I've used their products for years with no problems.

L'occitane soaps are nice and moisturising, I also like Edinburgh natural skincare company, soaps and solid handcream bars in little tins.
We often get Johnson's baby soap for sinks/handwashing as DH gets dry hands and that is really gentle and cheap too.

JennyDarlingRIP · 23/02/2023 21:15

I've actually just remembered that this time last year I got a bulk set of l'occitane soaps from QVC a Christmas set in the sale. Just looked and they have similar this year 10 soaps £21 , gives you an opportunity to try different ones and will last ages.

@HorribleHisTories15 from Amazon! It’s definitely body soap….

wander’s off to check……

Brewskipa · 24/02/2023 15:39

Here!

55p a bar too. Bargain!

TheGander · 24/02/2023 16:43

I now make all my own soaps ( not difficult) but due to having eczema, before I got into doing my own, I’d use Simple soaps. Definitely nothing perfumed or coloured

Ladyofthelake53 · 24/02/2023 16:45

Pears is nice or the Pears liquid soap/shower soap

Ladyofthelake53 · 24/02/2023 16:46

Or French Marseilles soaps

SirChenjins · 24/02/2023 16:47

Imperial Leather - takes me right back to my childhood and I love the clean, fresh smell.

feelingnaughty69 · 24/02/2023 16:47

Imperial Leather - reminds me of being a kid. I used to pick the badge thing off and get a bollocking by my Nan.

Chateau du Savon deliver really good Marseilles soap. Plastic free packaging and not expensive.

I was going to recommend them too. Savon Du Marseille is lovely. DH commented on how soft his skin was after using the cotton flower one.

I make my own too - love expert but I do like trying other people's to see what it's like - different butter/oil combinations, essential oils etc.

BeautifulDayintheneighbourhood · 24/02/2023 17:23

It’s a shame they think drawer is spelt ‘draw’.

Well so do a lot of people. It doesn’t stop them selling lovely soap with no plastic packaging.

Mueslikid · 24/02/2023 18:32

I love Chateau du Savon as well.

Excellent customer service, and all posted in a cardboard box with no plastic in sight.

I like the honey or olive oil ones best for my skin , teen dd swears by the red clay. DH prefers mint, dc2 likes all the fruity ones.

ItsWorkNotAParty · 24/02/2023 23:37

Another vote for Claus Porto. No idea if they are expensive as got them for a present ( so sort of hope they are!) but absolutely love all of the fragrances I have tried so far. And the packaging is beautiful

mycatthinksshesatiger · 25/02/2023 00:03

Wild do amazing soaps now as well as their refillable deodorants. Friendly soap in any fragrance is fab - especially the travel bar. Also Wideye soaps are amazing.

StellaGibson2022 · 25/02/2023 00:13

Dove sensitive - white box with either aqua or blue colour way. Have been using for years after I had a bout of recurring thrush.

LadyJ2023 · 25/02/2023 00:33

Marks and Spencers lemon one is the only one after years of trying diffrent ones that doesn't give me thrush and excma anymore

Lookingoutside · 25/02/2023 00:33

Nesti Dante or Claus Porto.

Or have a look in Tk Maxx at the big bars they sell for a few pounds each. You want triple milled soap so it doesn’t go to mush and stay away from the very heavily perfumed ones.

pennysays · 25/02/2023 00:41

La Roche posay fatty lipids bar is a lovely face cleansing bar which doubles as a gentle body cleansing bar. It’s under a fiver so not to expensive to use as an every soap. No fancy frangrance but very gentle.

Rebel2 · 25/02/2023 00:41

I use most bar soaps fine - but nowhere near my bits! Also careful to rinse for longer than I think is necessary
I can use soap around the top of my thighs etc but I'm really prone to thrush and use lactacyd feminine wash on external areas with no issues look I need to wash my arse with something Grin

The only soap you can use on your "bits" are simple soap as in the brand and they're PH neutral. Everything else can give you thrush x
