How do you make perfume stick?

Gwdihooooo · 19/02/2023 09:26

What do you spray it on to?

if I’m wearing a scarf I’ll spray it on to that. If not I’ll spray it on to my top layer of clothing.

But I never feel like I have that waft of smell I get when I walk past others in public… If you know what I mean?

Where has the best sticking power? Is it directly on to the skin?

You've probably just gone noseblind.

I don't enjoy other people's perfume clouds by the way

Allgoodusernamesweretaken · 19/02/2023 09:31

Some skins eat up the scents more than others, I spray on the skin and on the scarf, and reapply throughout the day- nothing helps otherwise (moisturising, etc etc- I tried it all). Also possibly others can smell it but you can't.

winepleasenotwhine · 19/02/2023 09:34

You may find you're also wearing scents with low percentage of fragrance (and high alcohol content).

Everyone is different so I don't understand why you want to inflict your perfume on everyone else

Possibly. I’ll have a look.

At the moment it’s either Lancome Est Belle, or Miss Dior

I don’t feel inflicted when I walk past people. I think mm that’s nice

OP posts:
Gwdihooooo · 19/02/2023 09:37

it doesn’t last long, literally as you walk past. I don’t live in a crowded area, so it’s literally just a walk by

Like you said, everyone's different

Bananadramallamas · 19/02/2023 09:38

Try wearing the body lotion instead.

Slimjimtobe · 19/02/2023 09:40

I spray it onto my neck several times and it’s noticeable

mumsnet have literally gone mad in that you cannot post a perfume thread without negativity lately

Cotswoldmama · 19/02/2023 09:53

I've heard that putting some vaseline where you are applying the perfume works but I haven't tried it. I usually just spray everywhere and then I have mini atomisers to refresh during the day.
I love smelling other peoples perfumes too!

The point of wearing perfume is to smell nice/appealing and for others to smell you, surely you must have heard of this?

Wednesdaysotherchild · 19/02/2023 10:48

I’m avoiding artificial fragrance as it’s an endocrine disruptor and after 10+ miscarriages and £75k on IVF, I’m doing everything! I don’t want your toxic perfumes up in my nose. Keep
it to yourself please!

kateandme · 19/02/2023 10:59

I love ❤️ people perfume clouds as they go by op.really makes me smile if it's a lovely one.and I often think how nice must it be to smell like that going about uour day.

SleepingisanArt · 19/02/2023 10:59

I can't wear eau de toilette unless I want to reapply every 5 minutes. I spent a lot of time investigating what 'notes' work for me. I currently wear Hermes Eau de Merveilles (perfume) which lasts all day but at a nice subtle level. (I have the same issue with lipstick - a consultant once told me I have Teflon lips and she recommended Dior 'lip tattoo ' which works for 4 of the 12 hours it is supposed to last before I need to reapply!!)

Except most perfumes don't appeal to most people. Being stuck in a lift/bus/office with someone who drowns themselves in perfume is awful

Darklane · 19/02/2023 13:35

Layer it. If your favourite has a matching body lotion apply that first & then spray over it.. You can also use a matching bath oil lightly rubbed on your skin & spray over that though often the bath oil itself used as perfume is more effective. Unfortunately not all modern perfumes make a matching body line.

You clearly have bad experiences, but projecting them onto everyone is a bit strange. It is perfectly possible to find means between having people smell you and choking them out. I totally agree overdoing it isn't cool, and in some professions people need to be more careful.
Also, how long do you spend with someone in an elevator, really?

Really sorry to hear about the mc (hugs).
But perfume isn't toxic. There are very strict rules, laws and regulations around making them.

Niftythrifter · 19/02/2023 17:56

I’m going back to spaying perfume back on my wrist with a touch of Vaseline on.

You can’t avoid everything that’s toxic. You’d never leave the house! How are people supposed to know that it has an impact on fertility? It’s not like it’s common knowledge

TheDead · 19/02/2023 18:06

I spray it directly on my neck & wrists & also sometimes on the neck of my clothes - scarf or collar.
Occasionally I don't do that but spray some on my hair at the top of my head. It seems to last there.

I too love smelling nice perfumes & rarely come across one I hate. I often compliment people on their perfumes

I like wearing scent but always go lightly with it

I think you do get nose blind and I would be embarrassed if it was too much
