Shower and ‘get ready’ - personal best 43 mins

I expect lots of posters can achieve twice the results in half the time. I have struggled with this for years and getting ready from scratch just feels like a mountain to climb, but I don’t look or feel like me unless I do it.

A shower/hair wash then moisturiser, let moisturiser sink in then light make up (mainly to conceal dark circles, a bit of eye definition, then loose powder and blusher), shoulder length straight-ish hair that I blast with hairdryer then finish off with Revlon One Step. Then get dressed.

Do I have unrealistic expectations, or does everyone else spend a similar amount of time? I have experimented with washing my hair at night, rather than in the morning; this is ok-ish but not ideal.

I can do it in 30 but I have short hair

WhoppingBigBackside · 18/02/2023 11:28

I'm probably the slowest person ever and will happily spend over 20 minutes in the shower.

There's all the other stuff like detangling hair before and after the shower, flossing and cleaning teeth, trimming toenails if necessary etc, and cleaning the shower after that slows me down. I don't ever use a hairdryer or anything.

Why on earth do I take so long?

UserNameSameGame · 18/02/2023 11:30

About 15 minutes for me.

Wash hair the night before.

Quick shower if needed, but not needed if I showered straight before bed. Wash face and moisturise. Deodorant. Light perfume.

Start coffee machine.

Hop into clothes and jewellery that were picked out the night before.

Light foundation, powder, mascara, tinted lip balm.

Coffee in a to-go mug 😁

Cassie9032 · 18/02/2023 11:31

My hair is long and curly so it takes me 1.5 hours to get ready on hair wash days 😂 1 hour(ish) if I'm not washing my hair but that's with a full face of makeup.

Cassie9032 · 18/02/2023 11:32

@WhoppingBigBackside I'm in the exact same.

bussteward · 18/02/2023 11:34

Are you my DP? His “quick shower” is 45 minutes including getting dressed etc, though when he comes down he’s still to faff with lenses, hair, jumper, shoes…

I do 20 minutes: wee, shower and wash hair, quick rough-dry hairdryer blast and let it dry damp and curly, deodorant and moisturiser, v light makeup, clothes, spectacles, make the bed and tidy up or if the bedroom is tidy, stare into space for a bit.

Can’t stand faffing around!

WiltingLobelia · 18/02/2023 11:35

I am probably older than you but I mix my moisturiser with foundation and just do it once. And it gives me a nice clean-skinned coverage that I like alot.

I don't do hair, so I can do 15 minutes.

Mind you- I am not particularly polished! But I think I pass generally.

EmpressOfTheSofa · 18/02/2023 11:36

I have very long thick hair so I only wash it once a week, and I’ll do that on a day when I have a couple of hours for it.

Daily I either shower with a cap on or strip wash. These days I use BB cream as moisturiser/foundation and my skin has never been better. The only other makeup I do daily is mascara and fill in my eyebrows. Twenty minutes absolute max for the whole thing.

I am very lazy though and relish the extra time in bed in the morning.

Cellotapedispenser · 18/02/2023 11:37

Exactly 30 mins for me. 630am into shower. 5 mins. Soap, scrub rinse out. Serum on face in bathroom. Dry self. Dress in clothes laid out the night before. Moisturize. Make up in 7 mins. Foundation, concealer, eye make-up, eye brows, blush. Take hair out of curl twists done the night before and brush through, tong if needed. Jewelry on and done. Look at Caroline Colins on tiktok for speed inspo. No way on earth I could do fake eyelashes the speed she does but I only wear them for nights out so all good.

sanityisamyth · 18/02/2023 11:37

About 10 mins? Brush hair quickly and put in pony tail. Brush teeth and get dressed. Don't bother with make up or jewellery etc.

Rebellious23 · 18/02/2023 11:38

Shower and makeup probably 40 mins

That's without hair, that's done in the evening as it takes 45-60 mins to diffuse and then the rest of the night to finish air drying

gogohmm · 18/02/2023 11:41

I can get out the door in 10 minutes but for work I shower, moisturiser, dress and leave

DelphiniumBlue · 18/02/2023 11:42

Washing and drying hair does take time. I have no idea what Revlon One Step is, googling suggests it's a hairdryer?
Anyway, to speed up your routine, I'd suggest moisturising first, before teeth cleaning or hairwashing - you could even do it while still in bed. Shampoo your hair one, quickly then put on conditioner and let it do its job while you shower, ( do you need to shower in the morning) for no more than 2mins, then wring out hair, use a microfibre towel to get more water out, then do whatever else you have to do - coffee, tidy up, get dressed .
Then blast your hair dry upside down, while brushing. When dry ( shouldn't take long, less than 5 mins) clip it up for extra bounce, put on your makeup. Get your coat and go. Free hair from clip once you've got to your destination.
It's still going to take half an hour at least.
What exactly goes wrong if you wash your hair at night?

Aurorabored · 18/02/2023 11:45

The gym has helped me hone it down to 40 minutes and that’s from sweaty mess walking into the changing rooms to walking out fully dressed with makeup on and clean dry straightened hair. At home I can do it in 30 if I really try.

2chocolateoranges · 18/02/2023 11:46

Shower hair washed , dried and straightened with basic makeup on and dressed I can do in 30Mins.

that and makeup for a night out would take me another 5 mins.

Flowerypillow · 18/02/2023 11:48

I can finish a workout and be on my way to work in 20 mins.

Teeth, shower and hair wash, shave legs and underarms, moisturise and deodorant, dry(short) hair and add product , primer, get dressed, foundation, blusher, tinted lip balm, mascara. Make tea and put porridge in microwave. Gather up bag, shoes, coat etc, defrost car if necessary, eat, leave.

Aurorabored · 18/02/2023 11:50

A turban towel for my hair helps a lot. I stick it on as soon as I’m out of the shower and it takes a lot of moisture out while I’m getting dry, moisturised and dressed. I sometimes put makeup on with it still in place and dry my hair afterwards.

Aurorabored · 18/02/2023 11:51

I’m in awe of 20 minutes with shaving. I’d be a bloody mess on the bathroom floor if I tried that.

Cassie9032 · 18/02/2023 11:52

How is everyone getting ready so quickly especially on hair wash days AND makeup. I need to get my ass into gear.

TheChosenTwo · 18/02/2023 11:53

About an hour is an average turn around for me. Mainly because I’m not hurrying. I can shower and be dressed and out the door in about 10 minutes if I’m not doing my hair. But it’s thick and quite out of control (or it was, just had it chopped short and thinned out loads, hair alone used to take me an hour and a half if I was making an effort!).
I don’t really bother with makeup 99% of the time so other than my skincare which takes about 2 minutes the most time is me sitting on my bed ‘drying’ leisurely 😂

Aurorabored · 18/02/2023 11:56

Sitting on the bed and checking MN is my time sponge. Two minutes turns into 20.

Arou · 18/02/2023 11:57

I wash and set my hair the night before and I still like an hour in the morning to putter about and get ready! I can do my makeup in 10 minutes but I hate being rushed so I will always take my hour in the morning - you’re mega speedy in my eyes!

Hbh17 · 18/02/2023 11:58

Probably can do it in 15 to 20 mins, including washing hair in shower. No moisturiser or make up, and hair drying is just a 5 minute blast. But I generally allow about an hour before going to work, as I like to sit down and read for half an hour while having my breakfast.

I've been using these razor blades for years. Practically impossible to cut yourself but still get a close shave.

I’ll have to try those.
