Shower and ‘get ready’ - personal best 43 mins

Coffeepot72 · 18/02/2023 11:24

I expect lots of posters can achieve twice the results in half the time. I have struggled with this for years and getting ready from scratch just feels like a mountain to climb, but I don’t look or feel like me unless I do it.

A shower/hair wash then moisturiser, let moisturiser sink in then light make up (mainly to conceal dark circles, a bit of eye definition, then loose powder and blusher), shoulder length straight-ish hair that I blast with hairdryer then finish off with Revlon One Step. Then get dressed.

Do I have unrealistic expectations, or does everyone else spend a similar amount of time? I have experimented with washing my hair at night, rather than in the morning; this is ok-ish but not ideal.

It seems to take me longer and longer as I get older, I am always rushing at the last minute if I have somewhere I need to be, even if I think I have allowed enough time.
I am over 70 now and getting my shoes on comfortably takes ages as I have arthritis, my hearing aids need their batteries changing Etc. It is ridiculous, think your self lucky if you can manage it in less than an hour, and be prepared for slow old age 🐌 !

maddiemookins16mum · 18/02/2023 12:05

Takes me an hour.
Shower/hair wash/teeth/moisturise - 10 mins
get dressed - 5 mins
Fuss cats and browse MN - 45 mins
leave house.

MyDogStoodOnABee · 18/02/2023 12:07

25 mins shower, shave u dear so/legs, long hair washed and conditioned, dried, styled, full make up and dressed.

LynneBenfield · 18/02/2023 12:11

I’m about 25-30 mins if doing make up but that would be for an evening out. ‘Every day’ would be around 10-15mins but I have easy hair and only bother with a bit of mascara at most, so it’s v quick.

Mañanarama · 18/02/2023 12:11

30 mins ideally:

Shower / hairwash - 5 mins
Moisturise - 1 min
Concealer / BB cream / blush - 3 mins
Eyebrows - 1 min
Eyeliner / shadow / mascara - 4 mins
Dry and style hair - 5 mins
Get dressed - 5 mins tops
Clean teeth / lip balm - 3 mins

Ready!

SweetSakura · 18/02/2023 12:14

Back in my uni days I used to pride myself in being able to get from bedraggled dinghy sailor to ball ready in about 10 minutes because we didn't want to waste any partying time! Quick shower, brush hair, earrings and a quick bit of blusher/mascara.

I still don't normally wear make up these days, but when I do it's - tinted moisturizer, blusher, lips and eyes, can definitely do it all in under 10 minutes. I'm not very artistic though so stick to safe basics! And my hair is "brush and go" because I lack the hand - eye coordination to faff with straighteners

CatOnTheChair · 18/02/2023 12:21

No idea how long the cleaning bit takes, but 55 mins in a morning gives me:
Shower, hair wash every other day. Clothes (no make up).
5/10 mins on MN.
3 sets of packed lunches made
Breakfast
Hair dryer and teeth
Out the door.

I'd say you could find more time if needed, but if you are happy with that as a morning routine, there is nothing wrong with it.

WhoppingBigBackside · 18/02/2023 12:25

@Cassie9032 , thanks, I feel better knowing it's not just me. I have lots of hair. The make up bit is quick.

The super swift getting ready I can do if it's something like getting from the gym and back to the office.

Theresahippopotamusonourroofeatingcake · 18/02/2023 12:45

I probably take the same time but spread out over 1.5-2 hours. I get up before everyone else and shower, wash hair (not daily) and shave legs. I then cleanse and put serum on my face and go downstairs to start packed lunches. I pop back between things to add another layer (spf/moisturiser, CC cream, concealer, rest of makeup) and let each thing dry while I'm doing something else.

I think I'm being efficient but it does drive my DH nuts as he never knows when it's a good time to go in the bathroom.

nextime · 18/02/2023 12:47

I'm about 40 mins but I wash my hair twice a week in the evenings. I have very thick hair so this helps when I sleep on it to soften and smooth it out a bit.
In the mornings, shower, teeth, contact lenses, moisturise and getting dressed takes me about 20 or so minutes. I spend 10 minutes doing skincare and then makeup and a quick brush of my hair.
I have a baby and small child so for me this routine is quick Grin I also procrastinate on MN.

Oblomov23 · 18/02/2023 12:48

20 mins, on normal working day, wash hair, dry hair, minimal make up. I can get ready for a night out, with more make up in 20 minutes aswell.

Georgyporky · 18/02/2023 12:49

Anyone factor in toilet time?
There was a recent post where someone thought they were an efficient pooer (or whatever) & took 10 minutes !!
I'm a saddo, so I timed myself @ 4 minutes including hand-washing.

BlueBellEF · 18/02/2023 12:50

All the women on here getting ready super quick with makeup & hair must be gorgeous. I defo need more help and time 😂

CherryBlossom321 · 18/02/2023 12:50

I just timed myself out of interest. Today is a very basic day; shower but not hair, clean teeth, put on moisturiser, brush hair, dry and dress, 13m 11s. I’m pleasantly surprised! I’ll be putting makeup on, but later. I do think though, that on a day when my long, thick hair needs washing, and I’m leaving the house and seeing multiple people so wear more than basic makeup, it will be a very different story. I’d predict an hour or more.

WeCome1 · 18/02/2023 12:51

I don’t do my hair in the morning.

I take an hour, but that includes breakfast and making packed lunches and children’s breakfast. I guess I spend 25 minutes on shower, makeup and getting dressed.

OP if you want to be quicker, is it worth looking at how long you spend on each bit and whether you can speed anything up. Eg get dressed while you’re waiting for moisturiser to sink in.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 18/02/2023 12:53

Just blow drying my hair takes 45 minutes. 😕

Oblomov23 · 18/02/2023 12:56

"must be gorgeous." Err No. I scrub up well though.

mondaytosunday · 18/02/2023 12:57

If really against the clock 20 min, if taking my time 30. But I'm pretty low maintenance. Shower and use 2in 1 shampoo, slap on some face moisturiser, body lotion. Comb through hair - it's wavy and layered and doesn't need styling and I don't mind heading out with it wet. Foundation and mascara. I dress pretty much the same most days - black base layer and different colour shirt/cardi/jumper/jacket over and scarf, so it doesn't require much thought. Earrings to match. I don't wear socks or tights and really only wear three different shoes depending on season: black flat sandals, flat shoes flat ankle boots. Done.

Lodgeornot · 18/02/2023 12:59

Personal best: 25 minutes. At 17 years old.

Just come in from work (in agriculture so very mucky and smelly). Friend almost ready, says I can come clubbing if I'm ready before she leaves. But if I can't get in its my responsibility to get home. Deal done.

I showered, dried and straightened hair, eye makeup, lipstick, dressed and handbag packed and back in the kitchen, ready to go before she is. They all got ID'd at every club (they were old enough though) , I just waltz right in.

I can still mange it in about 30-35 minutes, though now a days I'm happy if I just look my age.

devildeepbluesea · 18/02/2023 13:01

Shower, dress, hair 30mins. I have long hair which takes time to dry and straighten. I rarely wear make up in the day because I wfh and regular slap does my face no good at all. Coffee in thermos mug 3 mins.

hopeishere · 18/02/2023 13:01

Roughly 30 minutes including washing and drying hair and minimal makeup.

Italiandreams · 18/02/2023 13:04

About ten minutes but I am very low maintenance these days with two very small children. Definitely no time for hair washing in the morning ! I used to be more like an hour, and look forward to being able to spend more time on my appearance again in the future. Definitely feel better about myself when I do.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 18/02/2023 13:09

I have been known to shower and get ready in 15 minutes, shower, hair, dressing etc.... but I don't need to do much, and need very little make up, because I am naturally beautiful. Grin

Stop fucking LAUGHING at the back!!! Angry

Sunriseinwonderland · 18/02/2023 13:20

30 minutes and I always wear makeup and make sure my hair is nice. I loathe the routine of it. I wish I could get in a magic box and come out dressed and ready.

Fizbosshoes · 18/02/2023 13:20

bussteward · 18/02/2023 11:34

Are you my DP? His “quick shower” is 45 minutes including getting dressed etc, though when he comes down he’s still to faff with lenses, hair, jumper, shoes…

I do 20 minutes: wee, shower and wash hair, quick rough-dry hairdryer blast and let it dry damp and curly, deodorant and moisturiser, v light makeup, clothes, spectacles, make the bed and tidy up or if the bedroom is tidy, stare into space for a bit.

Can’t stand faffing around!

My DH "quick shower" includes sitting around watching sport/drinking a cup of tea etc for at least an hour, every so often mentioning that he is about to have a quick shower. Once football/other numerous distractions are finished, the shower usually is 5 min but by that time we should have already left!🤣
