Shower and ‘get ready’ - personal best 43 mins

Coffeepot72 · 18/02/2023 11:24

I expect lots of posters can achieve twice the results in half the time. I have struggled with this for years and getting ready from scratch just feels like a mountain to climb, but I don’t look or feel like me unless I do it.

A shower/hair wash then moisturiser, let moisturiser sink in then light make up (mainly to conceal dark circles, a bit of eye definition, then loose powder and blusher), shoulder length straight-ish hair that I blast with hairdryer then finish off with Revlon One Step. Then get dressed.

Do I have unrealistic expectations, or does everyone else spend a similar amount of time? I have experimented with washing my hair at night, rather than in the morning; this is ok-ish but not ideal.

@TrippinEdBalls a very made up look for me (night out) would be
Primer, colour correction, concealer, foundation, flawless filter
Powder, blusher, contour, highlighter
Eye primer, 3-5 shades of eyeshadow blended including lower lash line, eyeliner liquid, pencil eyeliner, mascara
Lipstick/gloss

It takes a lot to make me look this shit Grin but I love messing with makeup and applying it

If we're talking about going 'out out', I can be showered, lotioned and potioned, made up and nicely dressed with accessories in about 30 mins.

I never factor hair into that because it's a job on its own - that would have been taken care of earlier to give it time to settle. I will always plan out my outfit ahead of time too.

Twocrabs20 · 22/02/2023 03:09

I’m about 4-5 mins in the shower with a hair wash and conditioner. 3-4 mins to put clothes on. And then I finish make up in the car on drive. I put on make up like a child putting on sunscreen and desperate to get into the pool.
I only wish I had the luxury of 45 mins

Orangetapemeasure · 22/02/2023 04:53

Is this day to day or ‘going out’?
you don’t mention kids?
day to day my record is 3 minutes which included a shower but no hair wash pre kids.
on a normal school day(I go to work after drop off) I have an hour and 20 minutes during which time I get up, shower, get dressed, make up on (less than 2 minutes) walk the dog, feed 2 rabbits, clear up the kitchen, supervise 3 instrument practices, get my own work stuff ready, make myself a packed lunch.

if I’m going out out it will usually take me 30 minutes, including a shower and hair wash.

I rarely use a hairdryer.

Shower, hair wash, moisturiser, spritz perfume , dress, light makeup, rough dry hair and finish with styling brush, earrings on.
Every morning of my life. 35 minutes. Just about to start.

never in my life have I been happier that I never got sucked into this makeup habit. Never bothered with it once, or fussing around with my hair. I am literally gaining an hour a day on some people - thats just incredible - 7 hours a week - 365 hours a year- 18250 hours in my adult life!

I wonder how much money I have saved, too

WandaWonder · 22/02/2023 06:37

I shower, wash/brush and tie back hair, stick deodorant on and brush my teeth takes me about 15mins

What is blending? Should I be doing it?!

So I apply my foundation from the back of my hand with a brush and build it up so areas that need more coverage get it. And then I apply concealer- some bits need more concealing so that takes time to blend in the edges. Then there's eyeshadow - I prefer a blended in look so that again gets built up in layers. Same with blusher. If I don't it looks shit.

You've got lucky with your routine and skin!

I get that but also makeup can be a real joy to some people too

of course, if you really like it its a good use of that 18250 hours!

Kalasbyxor · 22/02/2023 06:59

This is an eye-opener!
Those of you who spend upward of 10 minutes, do you get up extra early before DC / DPs to avoid getting interrupted? My mornings are flurries of waking children up, checking school bags, packing lunches and snacks, making breakfasts, hurrying everyone along in various bedrooms etc.
I wee, have a quick flannel wash, run an eyeliner across my lids, put hair in a top knot and pretty much pick whatever I can grab out of my wardrobe.
I do what I can manage the night before, but even our evenings are busy with DC activities, homework and housework. I usually fall asleep working at my laptop in bed (grim, I know).

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 22/02/2023 07:24

I'm about an hour and 15 for everything before work. Make tea, chop guinea pig veg, shower, wash hair, moisturise and cream everywhere, hrt gel, get dressed, makeup on, do hair, eat breakfast, feed guinea pigs, top up hay and water. I cannot bear rushing but I'm not dawdling either.

StClare101 · 22/02/2023 07:48

If I’m going into the office I wash my hair the night before, let it dry naturally for a couple of hours then a 2 minute hair dry to straighten it a bit.

In the morning:

  • shower 5 minutes
  • deodorant, moisturiser, teeth including flossing 5 minutes
  • Straightener - 3 minutes
  • Make up - 3 minutes

Im in the bathroom for 20 minutes or lesson those days.

Dillydallydilly · 22/02/2023 09:01

Personal best with a shower and hair wash was 20 mins from bed to train station - and the train station is minimum 8 mins away. But I doubt I looked at all ‘groomed’ and there was some train make up and hair sorting that went on.

Im just really rubbish at mornings. Press snooze again and again and again.

My husband takes joy in his mornings, he’s very leisurely. There’s often a 30+ minute shower involved, fancy elaborate coffee making, time to sit on the sofa and look at the garden and converse with the cat. I wish I had the discipline to get out of bed so I could then have that nice leisurely morning time!

Dillydallydilly · 22/02/2023 09:01

He used to get up at 5:30 sometimes, depending on what he had on that day, just to have that leisurely morning.

Then we had kids and everything for more hectic.

Obviously if you enjoy it then you should do it! But I am honestly mystified by that list - I don't know what some of them are but in several cases you seem to be using several different products that all serve the same purpose?

LadyWithLapdog · 22/02/2023 20:14

Up at 7. Shower and dress by 7:15. Breakfast for DCs and get them down. This takes a few trips up the stairs.
Out by 7:30ish.
Call DCs from the train to check they are awake, have eaten, have brushed their teeth, are ready for school etc.

WhoppingBigBackside · 22/02/2023 20:32

Needed to get ready in a hurry, and did it in 10 minutes.
It was just a quick shower. Shampoo and soap. Didn't condition hair, apply body lotion, shave underarms etc

JunkinDonuts · 22/02/2023 20:51

Ten minutes max for me. I don't wear make up and my hair is short, so no styling required.
Basically, in, wash, out, dry, dress.
