i'm getting married in july and i need to find a dress for my bridesmaid sharpish as i can't sort out all the accessories flowers, mens craveats etc until i know what colour the bridesmaids dress is! i have searched high and low but i don't really like traditional bridesmaids dresses, and i really don't like satin or taffeta.

i've only got 1 bridesmaid, she's mid twenties, size 14, and pale with blonde hair. i need something quite plain as my dress has lots of detail on it. colour wise - blue/turquoise/green/lilac.

any suggestions very gratefully received - i can't find anything i like!!!

thanks

What about just an evening dress, try Monsoon etc, they must have one you'll like?

Legoleia · 08/02/2008 20:18

ooh, forgot to say "congratulations!"

RipMacWinkle · 08/02/2008 20:19

Hi there

Congratulations!!!

I'm a bridesmaid soon (not matron of honour!) and am wearing a dress from Monsoon - I think their dresses are just gorgeous.

WHat about something like this?

My bridesmaids wore very plain (and very cheap) navy knee length dresses - from Littlewoods, I think. My mum made bolero jackets to go with dh's kilt. I don't think we even looked at 'ordinary' bridesmaid's dresses. My dress was from Monsoon!

Could I be any more technically incompetent?!

Yes, Monsoon or Debenhams formal wear section. I got my bridesmaids nice dresses from Debenhams, and not a bit of taffeta in sight! Or if you have any local posh clothes boutiques, you might get soemthing there. Then all you need is some flowers for her hair and she will turn into a bridemaid!

CarGirl · 08/02/2008 20:22

Get her a 2 piece suit?

beautifuldays · 08/02/2008 20:29

yes i was thinking more of high street shops rather than traditional bridesmaid dresses - they tend to be cheaper too!

i did have a look at monsoon, but nothing quite the right colour. needs to be a pastel rather than bright as she is so pale a bright colour will just wash her out. i know i'm picky but don't want sequins/beading etc, just something quite plain, like the chiffon dress but don't think strapless would suit her.

i know, i'm a fussy bugger!

height of summer wedding in a marquee so she might boil in a suit!

why doesn't hobbs have a website??

You're the bride so allowed to be fussy!!!

Just wanted to add that I'm wearing one of their strapless dresses but it came with detachable straps as I think most of them do. So might be worth a look. Plus we're wearing wee bolero tops with them too - I'm a size 8/10, the other b/maid is 16/18 and it looks fab on both of us.

Good luck!

JackieNo · 08/02/2008 20:51

How about this? Plain enough? Or do you want something longer?

RipMacWinkle · 08/02/2008 22:14

These dresses are gorgeous!

My only other thought is that if you go for something in Coast/Monsoon etc that isn't a wee bit bridesmaid/more-than-guest (if you see what I mean), don't you run the risk of one of your guests wearing the same?

beautifuldays · 08/02/2008 22:14

it's only 5 months and i am so picky it will prob take me that long to find something i like
