I am not going to wear flares… what style of jeans are not dated?

I keep telling myself skinny is a classic style but apparently people wouldn’t be seen dead in them (according to a work colleague)

I like them 🙁🙁🙁

Are slim jeans a slightly more modern style.

what can I wear that’ll work with boots and trainers?

Skinny jeans suit me the best so l don't t pay attention to anyone else's opinion, nor should you.

Remagirl · 03/02/2023 21:39

I live in skinny jeans and trousers. I don't care what other people say, think, do 😊

HiImTheProblemItsMe · 03/02/2023 21:43

I know that this seems to be a trend on social media, but at my ds' primary school most of the other mums in his class are in their 20s (I feel very old being mid 30s) and they all, without fail, wear skinny jeans. I've never seen a different style of jean. Unless they are wearing leggings and athleisure style stuff, it's skinnies, t shirts and trainers all the way. So I don't think all young people reject them!

rookiemere · 03/02/2023 21:48

I've just bought M&S slim flares, slight flare at the bottom but not loads of material. They are fine with trainers.

Timeforanewname23 · 03/02/2023 21:48

Barrel jeans, mom jeans, and now dad jeans all look great with trainers. Also cargo jeans ( cords between jeans and cargo pants) but I can’t get my head around them.

Im an 8/10 but pear shaped and I hated skinnies…so relieved they’ve finally had their day.

too many women wearing them whose legs looked like parsnips ( I count myself among them!)

I do think skinny jeans look amazing on people with long, slender legs. If that’s you, I’d stick with it!

Timeforanewname23 · 03/02/2023 21:49

Still not ready for bootcut to come back though!

RDAnna · 03/02/2023 21:57

We all wore bootcut though when it was pretty much the only style you could buy and it looked fine!
In fact, I think when you are slightly wider in the hip (and calf!) it's a more flattering shape.
I'm very tempted to buy some but i think straight leg 501s are next on the buy list when I need some new jeans.

Give up on jeans and come over to the dark side with https://www.marksandspencer.com/leather-look-high-waisted-leggings/p/clp60505311?color=HUNTERGREEN&prevPage=srp#intid=plpnavpidpg1pip18g2r1c1|prodflagsrptsSLVP100 M& S high waisted leather look leggings

Very think material, covers all the lumps and bumps.

TizerorFizz · 03/02/2023 22:50

I’ve got boot cut. I’m tall and they work well for me. M&S wide legs too. I’m not thin enough for skinnies. DD2 is late 20s and ultra fashionable. Not a mim, but the skinnies are ditched. High waisted wider leg.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 03/02/2023 23:01

I’m pear shaped so skinny jeans always looked awful on me - I am generally a 10 top and 12 bottom and need outfits to have a defined waist. I ditched a few years ago and now wear barrel, balloon, mom, and Levi’s 501s. I recently got the Levi’s 501 90s jeans and LOVE them.

Lookingoutside · 04/02/2023 06:10

Barrel leg or straight leg from M&S?

Yarrawonga · 04/02/2023 07:48

I was late to the party with skinnies because I was convinced they wouldn’t suit me, but I was wrong, no parsnips. So, I’m going to be late leaving the party too.

I never stopped wearing bootcut which, as far as I can see, are so close to skinny flares as to make no difference.

journeyofinsanity · 04/02/2023 08:29

Skinnies as in ghastly stretchy legging-tight jeans are naff. Slim leg are fine and probably a bit of a classic. There is a world of difference.
A straight leg jean is always a classic. Slightly narrower or slightly looser depending on the overall fashion zeitgeist

WeCome1 · 04/02/2023 08:31

I’ve gone for slim as a skinny update. M&S and John Lewis.

ShillyShallySherbet · 04/02/2023 08:33

Straight leg or slim jeans are the ones for me, I find skinny jeans are so uncomfortable and restrictive so I’m glad if they’re going out of fashion. They do look great on very slim people though.

NeedWineNow · 04/02/2023 08:57

i go for the Ivy Slim Fit jeans from M&S. I’ve got them in regular length for wearing with boots and trainers but also a mid blue pair in short which is an ankle grazer length on me if I want to wear ballet flats or sandals. Love them.

skippy67 · 04/02/2023 09:08

M&S slim flares. They're fabulous! I still wear skinnies more often than not though.

TizerorFizz · 04/02/2023 09:27

The newspaper I read highlighted the Princess of Wales is now wearing slim straight leg jeans. I think it’s just a more mature look. Skinny legging type jeans never looked that great anyway. They said she likes Oliver Bonas jeans but at the moment they have mostly wide leg. Takes me back to the 70s!

TheOGCCL · 04/02/2023 09:41

Flared can make your legs look short if you don’t wear them with heels.

Basically pick any type of jeans you like which are not skin tight. Slim, straight, tapered, boyfriend, girlfriend, loose, barrel. I like Mango and Esprit for jeans.

I don’t think it’s really about age, more your appetite for and sensitivity towards fashion. Plenty of younger people (who aren’t that interested) still wear skinnies, same applies for older age groups.

Skinnies are more in if worn with big boots and a baggy top half, it’s that neat, fitted top AND fitted trousers which definitely isn’t in fashion but it’s an easy outfit to shove on.

MissingMoominMamma · 04/02/2023 09:43

The Princess of Wales is very thin, and dresses like someone very posh, in their 60s….

Yarrawonga · 04/02/2023 10:17

That’s more or less how I wear them. The top is usually a cropped jumper, which is probably breaking some rule because my bum is clearly visible.

MadeOfSteel · 04/02/2023 10:25

Bootcut or a slim flare suit me and I don't really care if some people think they're not in fashion. You should wear what makes you feel good.

rookiemere · 04/02/2023 11:05

@NeedWineNow I really like the M&S Ivy slim jeans as well.
