SOTD Saltworks Tabac Soleil and I smell like a box of chocolates. It's gorgeous on this damp grey dull day.

alltheevennumbers · 01/04/2023 11:08

Perfumistas: I need your help. I need to choose a new perfume to mark my divorce and a new start following the end of a long marriage. Any ideas?

The brief is that it needs to be special and celebratory, have some symbolic meaning, and smell fabulous.

In terms of sentiment think somewhere between Carol King's It's Too Late and Aretha Franklin's Respect, obvs with Candi Statton's Young Hearts and a good dollop of Gloria Gaynor thrown in.

What is the olfactory equivalent of this?

JFDIYOLO · 01/04/2023 12:08

@Alltheevennumbers oh wow, what a brilliant concept.

Something of the outdoors for spaciousness and freedom. You're flying. Seasalty, foresty notes.

Thinking of the season of spring and new beginning, fresh new leaves, buds, spring flowers

A youthful note - the future's all yours. Citrus?

Sounds very good - might need some incense in the mix somewhere?

Amouage Gold?
For you in your prime ....? To me this is a real kick-ass perfume. Especially the vintage in the opulent cut glass crystal bottles. It conjures up life experience & survivorship in one sniff.

A kick-ass Guy Robert with civet - sounds good! I don't usually stray in Amouage's direction - they do a man and a woman variant; do you know if these are different smells or just different bottles (as with Goutal)?

Cantonet · 01/04/2023 14:39

@alltheevennumbers they're different.
This is the only Amouage out of all the ones I've tested I enjoy. It's no shrinking violet !

tiktokoclock · 01/04/2023 14:55

Finally settled down to get a 4160 Tuesday sample set. Tbh it's taken me so long because they've got too many to choose from.

Has anyone got a signature scent/absolute must-have/never be without from them?

I will never want to be without a bottle of Creamy Vanilla Crumble. Pure comfort in a bottle. More recently, Oakmossery and Hammersmith Tea & Biscuits have become perfume-wardrobe staples.

@Alltheevennumbers the first thought that sprang to mind was Fracas...

Sadly I'm not big on tuberose, which also rules our Turbulences.

But thinking along these lines, Lady Vengeance could be a possibility?

DramaAlpaca · 01/04/2023 16:22

Lady Vengeance is fab. Vengeance Extreme is even more kickass.

As for the 4160T samples, Clouds Illusion because it's perfect, Amberama for a delicious chypre, and Fluffy Lemon Top just for fun.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/04/2023 22:33

SOTD Kiehl’s Musk.

FestivelyScent · 01/04/2023 23:15

Feel better soon @DramaAlpaca 💐

I wouldn't be without Shazam, either, or Dancing with Strangers. They are my absolute favourites from 4160Ts. Enjoy the sample set @tiktokoclock

SOTN is Shalimar. How can it be April Fool’s Day already?

Trying out the new 4160 Tuesdays collab with Smurfy Girly today: Hush Hush. It's a stunning iris/violet/musk. It makes me smell expensive!

TakeYourHatOffBoy · 02/04/2023 18:29

SOTD is Orangers en fleurs for a sunny spring day - still bloody cold though!

I've joined the crowdfund for this one as well as my eau my 😊

I've also got avon attraction Game on the way plus a trio of samples from commodity.

So I think I'll have to reign it in a bit after that 😀

Cantonet · 02/04/2023 20:43

Amouage gold is Sotd.
I'm really loving this. I'd forgotten I had this sample & it's such a sophisticated beautiful perfume.
I like the sound of this Hush Hush perfume. Especially the Iris & Violet notes together.

That sounds gorgeous!

I've been taking note of the 4160 faves and I shall report back!

FestivelyScent · 02/04/2023 23:39

4160Ts Hush Hush sounds perfect - violet and iris are among my favourite note combinations. When put together they just make me smile.

SOTN is Ambre Orient. Powdery sandalwood heaven.

TakeYourHatOffBoy · 03/04/2023 10:42

I do like the sound of Hush Hush, but I also remember the huge disappointment that was the violet-and-iris combo in 4160T's Goodbye Piccadilly, so fingers crossed this is a bit more exciting! @MissBattleaxe don't suppose you'd be able to compare the two for me, could you? Grin

Laiste · 03/04/2023 12:55

Hi Purfumistas - i need a bit of help from people who know their smells! Hope it's ok to ask ...

So - a fragrance i use to love, long discontinued, had it's main notes as (in this order) ginger, vanilla and pink pepper.

I'm trying but can't find any perfumes with all 3 specific ingredients as the main notes. A few have 2 - so my question is: which out of ginger, vanilla and pink pepper would have been the more defining scents do you think? If that makes any sense? I mean if i can't have all 3 - which 2 should i concentrate on?

I'd love to get something as close as poss to the original. I loved the smell but i don't know my scents well enough to describe what i liked about it 😳

Except perhaps that it was 'warm' and sort of low. Spicy?
Any suggestions?
TIA

TakeYourHatOffBoy · 03/04/2023 14:32

@Laiste I would say the ginger or the vanilla would be the strongest. If you type the notes in here you should find some suggestions for smell-alikes.

What was the name of the discontinued scent, by the way?

Laiste · 03/04/2023 14:41

Thank you Smile
Well - i'm embarrassed to admit it's an old F&F one from Tesco Blush

It was only a fiver a bottle, but my goodness it was lovely on me, and i got a lot of compliments. Even from random strangers i got near! And, more importantly it takes me back to such a significant time for me, 2006/7. You know, the way scent does.

I'll try that link thank you.
Thinking about it i'm never keen on vanilla on it's own at all. But it's all different when it comes to mixtures i guess.
