Are European women better groomed & better dressed than British women?

Following two interesting threads & posters are saying that the Dutch & German woman are impeccably groomed & dressed. The "scruffy toff with I untidy hair covered in dov hair" is absolutely not a sign of wealth... It's interesting!

Brexit. Bye now.

We left the union. Which is not the same. Still European.

Speaking of French reddish home dye jobs, there are an awful, and I mean genuinely awful, purple/rainbow home dye jobs in the UK. It looks terrible.

I notice more young people with the fake tan/nails/eyelashes/lip fillers/loads of slap in DD's university city TBH (Newcastle), and most of them are students.

I saw a young woman at an exhibition (work) the other day, and her eyelashes were so fake and heavy that she couldn't stop blinking. She looked really uncumcortable.

My dh is Spanish
When I visit Spain the people can be very critical of British women ( particularly English women) They say that we are unattractive and can’t dress .
I often receive ‘compliments’ from Spanish people who tell me that I look too good to be English

100%. The culture for plastic surgery is here too . I spend lots of time in Europe visiting family and the women look classic and unfiltered I get home and it’s back to the fake plastic look.

European women and British women?

British women are also European women.

Anyway, in general other European women are better groomed and better dressed than British women but it depends on the countries you're referring to and the regions.

For one, our mainstream shopping websites leave a lot to be desired compared to those in some other European countries. Boxy clothes for everyone, no shape, form, beautiful prints or texture but I suppose it depends on personal taste too.

Maybe they also have ridiculous stereotyped views of the English that don’t hold up?

I spend a lot of time in Italy & in the places I visit there are a lot more small boutiques selling gorgeous & affordable clothes from Italian makers.
In general its easier to find decent leather bags & shoes etc there too.
And things like eyewear both prescriptive & sunglasses are way more prevalent & people obviously buy them. I was in one italian town & I literally couldn't believe the amount of shops selling glasses

I love sitting with a coffee or glass of wine & people watching & checking out some of the impossibly stylish & elegant people both male & female.

Scent is different too - lots of gorgeous fragrances wafting around

I ve often thought this too, i think being one of the most obese countries on the planet doesn't help.

As for the UK being European, yes geographically but it is no coincidence that out of 28 nations the UK was the only nation to not only have a vote but to actually go and leave the European Union, which has turned out to be a stunningly brilliant move.

I spent last summer in a small French coastal city and really challenged my 'the French are more stylish' perceptions. There was a tattoo parlour on every street as well.

European people are more affluent in general and in general have more stable weather. We are a nation with extremes of poverty and you never know day to day if there's going to be a hurricane or a warm spell. It makes it hard to dress well.

MistletoeandBaileys · 29/01/2023 11:14

It’s all subjective I think. I’m pasty, Irish and fair and the biggest improvement I’ve seen in myself in the last few years was that I gave up on fake tan and I bought a foundation that matches my skin tone.

I get my nails done but i get a gel polish and not the acrylics because I have been blessed with good strong nails that grow quite quickly. I spent years spending a fortune on colouring my hair when I realised that the two shades that actually suit me are a honey blonde or auburn as they pick up the natural tones in my hair.

I’ve never spent too much time on make up, the simpler the better for me just because I don’t have a practiced hand at it. Or the time in the mornings.

A good skincare routine and spf is a must.

And wearing clothes that flatter my shape as opposed to trying to squeeze into what everyone else is wearing. Although see me on the days I’m doing the big house clean or WFH and you will see someone who looks like she’s a bridge troll. It’s all about balance! 😂

I agree that the Brits have a certain style that you don't come across elsewhere, that is the slug brows, orange skin, long fake nails, fake hair, fake lips, contouring etc. I now live in Stockholm which is a similar size to Manchester population wise and OMG the difference in how people look is astonishing. That's for both men and women.

I am British but whenever I go abroad am always mistaken for being mainland European. Not sure why - could be my perfectly groomed hair, the fact that I dress solely in muted camel and navy tones, or my flawless pronunciation of the word 'saucisson'. When I tell them I'm actually (whisper) British, all the locals in the taverna squeal in astonishment and reassure me that they'd never have guessed, and now they know, they just know I would never have voted leave.

This is just a chance to go on about Brexit and British

Poor old S&B used to be more uplifting about women here

Motherparent19 · 29/01/2023 11:17

Is this only about white women? Other races aren’t typically blonde or brown hair with fake tans.

Are women of other races not women too? Or they just don’t count? Just curious.

The majority of women in Europe are white tbf.

But I don't think anyone has said that fake tan applies to all women without exception, and there have been just as many comments that relate to clothes, which are worn by all women.

Love it 🤣

Testino · 29/01/2023 11:25

People talk about what they know and the circle they're mainly in. Everyone is free to add that to the discussion, and so they should.

No one is or should be exempted although I'm sure it can seem like it due to the majority being of a certain group.

puttingontheritz · 29/01/2023 11:26

We are not a mass.
In France, there is loads less obesity, and people look better generally when they aren't overweight. So as a whole, they then look better dressed.

kitsuneghost · 29/01/2023 11:26

I think they are less fake looking. False nails, eyelashes, painted toenails, lip fillers, overgroomed eyebrows etc... popular in UK make women look cheap and trashy.
