Lovely looking boots @Puddinandpie, I will admire from a distance, I can't walk in heels. I'm having a really rubbish day, DS1 and DS2 both have Covid. I'm sure I'm starting to feel a bit weird in my throat too.

But I was cheered up with a pink merino skirt from Boden. Same colour as the linen trousers but more 'me' I think. DH definitely approves.

And some orange 90s cropped 501s in 28 length, so not cropped for me, but the shape I used to wear in the 90s. Decided despite my pear shape, high waisted jeans don't work for my post menopausal petite body as it looks like there is no gap between the top of my waist and the bottom of my boobs, this style don't do that but still seem to fit my waist and bum. And I like the button fly better than zip.

These were supposed to be my summer purchases, the bright colours are there but the fabrics are decidedly not. Never mind, the other stuff from the Boden and Levis orders are going back. Packed everything up to be collected by Royal Mail tomorrow just in case I'm housebound for days.

Do other people see a pair of shoes they love but they don't have any outfits to wear them with?
I shouldn't should I? (Flower pattern slingbacks with a block heel in my favourite colours.)

If only. It's more a case of, which of the few pairs of shoes I have that I can actually wear due to plantar fasciitis will not look too bad with the outfit I've chosen.

EnoBaby · 17/03/2023 19:27

@Cardigansalltheway I have lots of "dry clean only" stuff, but I always wash them with cold water on a delicate cycle (with appropriate detergent and a washing net) and never had any problems.

I hope you and your DC feel better soon @Netcam ! I love your choice of colors (so appropriate for spring!), however I must say those salmon pink pants look like they might have too much fabric around the hip/ crotch area?

@Netcam @Sooverthemill I have googled East Anglia photos, and it looks so beautiful, what I lovely place to live!
I admire rural/ coastal living, being close to nature sounds wonderful, although I know it’s not for me. I’ve rented once a place out of Tokyo (still in the greater Tokyo area though and not a “rural” place at all) and couldn’t stand it, moved away in 3 months. But I still sort of romanticize this lifestyle and I love reading escapist books set in Cornwall or somewhere similar!

@Purplecatshopaholic your leopard dress looks lovely, what a cracking figure you have!
Back in the day I used to say things like “ugh I hate stripes” or “I’d never wear animal prints, that’s so not ME”, but after 30 I’ve suddenly started loving the stripes and now at 32 I’m falling in love with the animal prints too. Funny how that happens!
Speaking of animal prints... →

@toucaninjapan, thanks for the feedback about the orange trousers, you are right, I hadn't really noticed that as I was amazed to find something that fit in the waist, bum and length! Decided to return them too after a second look. I'll have to use you all as my style gurus, I find it so hard to find trousers that fit me, so if I make it that far I'll post some photos for feedback.

Yes, East Anglia is a nice place, although Southwold is bit more scenic than where we live near Cambridge, although Cambridge is a beautiful city itself. But we live near lots of walking paths with a nature reserve and small lakes. I love being able to walk out of the door straight to quiet walking paths away from any traffic right behind our house. Tokyo must be exciting, I visited a number of times when I lived there and moved back to London when I returned to the UK.

But as you say, we change as we get older. I was 30 when I returned to London to live and loved it then, with all the opportunities and things to do. I'm 53 now and I'd hate living there, it would be much too busy and noisy for me these days.

This would be a typical 2000s outfit for me! I think I wore a variation of this most non work days but cardigan from Hobbs usually
Will take pics of the Sézane stuff I’ve packed up the definite returns so they won’t be modelled! @HorribleHisTories15
cardigan: Rouje 2021 ( and yes I have a white cat)
jeans: raey
shoes: Russell and Bromley

Cute cardi

Loving all the inspiration everyone thank you. I think I need a trip to zara to update.

@toucaninjapan its pretty for sure but we have rubbish services, only one place that delivers hot food, no delivery or just eat or Uber here! Also miles to a
hospital. Millions of tourists clogging up the streets and a general sense of living in the 70s. I’m a townie but DH hates towns. I compromised. Personally I like looking at the countryside but prefer to live in a city ( lived in London for years, Cambridge too and Leicester ). Also you are a taxi service for the kids when you have no bus service. Good job I love my DH. Tellingly the eldest DD who always went on about how fab our rural home was now lives in Sheffield!

OublietteBravo · 18/03/2023 10:02

I really the pink skirt @Netcam.

I know exactly what you mean about animal print @toucaninjapan. I used to think it wasn’t me at all. But now - well, see today’s photo!

I’m also a townie @Sooverthemill. I grew up in the Yorkshire Dales, but I can’t imagine living there. It’s pretty to visit (my parents and siblings still live there).

@Sooverthemill, are you actually in Southwold Town centre, beautiful place, but I can imagine that it is absolutely full of tourists in the summer. Interesting you lived in Cambridge too, also full of tourists in the summer! We have Cambridge close by for when we need some city and there are buses there. DS2 has just got a place at the new Cambridge Maths School for 6th form in September, when it opens. He's really excited as it is affiliated to the university and he managed to pass the entrance exam and interview process to get one of the 40 places. The hard thing is going to be getting there in the mornings, it's only about 10 miles but the bus takes absolutely ages in the morning due to all the traffic going into Cambridge. DS1 is at a more local 6th form which is a much easier journey. But the journey feels worthwhile for DS2 as it is such a great opportunity.

Netcam · 18/03/2023 10:17

@plumduck, I'd never bought anything from Boden until very recently. And the reviews on here and elsewhere were a bit mixed. But it was their bright colours that attracted me, and the fact that they have some nice things in natural fabrics. I got a couple of colourful cropped cashmere cardigans and a silk shirt in the winter sales which I was really pleased with, although I've not worn them yet as it's not been quite warm enough, and now this pink merino skirt. Talking of pink, I never used to wear it, like @OublietteBravo and @toucaninjapan with their animal prints! Still not sure I'd do pastel pink, but I quite like a dusky pink or bright fuschia these days, it brightens my aging face and body up a bit now I'm 53!

Showed off your lovely hair though! How did you manage to remove a post when you made a mistake? I've not figured that out yet.

I had to report it quick smart!

Purplecatshopaholic · 18/03/2023 11:16

Your boots from yesterday @Puddinandpie - awesome! And I love your outfit from yesterday too @Cardigansalltheway - that acid lemon/lime type colour is so fresh and vibrant. Thanks for the leopard dress love @toucaninjapan - your top is so cool and looks great with the jeans. Love a little bit of leopard! I realise I am looking a ‘relaxed’ (ie crushed!) look today, lol - aww well only faffing around the house! Dress is a sale buy from ASOS with an All Saints slip dress underneath. The Mary Janes were in the John Lewis sale, from Kin.

Lovely dress @kingofchaos and I love your bedroom so so much! I wish I had the same colorful blanket!

@Epli I had my bag for 5-6 months maybe? So not too long, but so far it looks brand new, despite me using it almost every day and getting some random kicks from my toddler when I'm carrying her in my arms.

@OublietteBravo when I hear "Yorkshire", first thing that pops on my mind is "James Herriot". Grin
Yorkshire Dales looks absolutely dreamy on the photos!
And yay to the zebra print!

@Sooverthemill I know what you mean, you've mentioned many things I personally dislike about living somewhere more rural. We could have easily went for a bigger house with a nice garden if we chose to settle outside of Tokyo (or if we went for a further area from the centre), but I'm particularly fussy about good medical facilities available 24/7, good schools, lots of activities for kids, a lifestyle that doesn't demand a car and so on. Coast frightens me with the idea of tsunami, rural means living close to rivers (floods happen every year somewhere) or hills and mountains (landslides after lots of rain or earthquakes - again, somebody dies every year because of that). Some areas are known for typhoons, some have lots of snow (lots of problem in these regions every year), some have this, some have that. And don't even get me started on the venomous centipedes!
I do still admire the idea of being close to nature though, but maybe my idea of "nature" that I want to get closer to entails a colder climate and no frequent natural disasters. Blush
