I was busy running around after DD today, hence the comfy outfit.
DD has a third trial ballet lesson tomorrow, and I'm kinda dreading going there.
DD seems to be enjoying it all, she didn't want to leave last time we went etc., the only fly in the ointment is the rude admin lady who's working there.
She saw us for the first time last week and she felt it was appropriate to bombard me with highly intrusive questions regarding my parenting choices, the language I speak to my daughter etc., all asked in a very condescending tone in front of everyone. I honestly felt like a suspect being interrogated!
I'd tried to be polite the Japanese way (i.e. without saying "it's not your goddamn business", as omg that'd be so straightforward and rude, shame on you toucan), so I was giving one-word replies, which only made her think she could be even more intrusive with the things she was asking (AND she started giving definite nationalistic vibes), so I unfortunately lost my cool and said her Japanese was very good in my sweetest voice.
Everybody laughed their asses off (but then of course looked at me like omg I can't believe she really said that), the admin lady went red in the face (shut up immediately) and now DH is mad at me for jeopardizing DD's image, because if the word of mouth spreads, local people might start being rude to DD, ignoring her etc. because of the way her mother is. There's a chance (slim for now, unless I screw up again) we might get turned down by the ballet school and so on. Unfortunately I know he's not exaggerating as I've seen these things happen with my own eyes in the past.
A Japanese being rude to you is not the same as you, a foreigner, being rude towards Japanese. NOW I wish I was rude in the straightforward way, maybe it would look less rude compared to what I said. Oh well.
Sorry for venting! Just felt like getting this weight off my chest before tomorrow.
