Hello @takemebacktothe1990s you look lovely today. I also like your duvet cover ! 🤔

takemebacktothe1990s · 02/03/2023 18:21

Thanks @Benjispruce4 !

It's from Matalan or B&M...I can't remember! But it was last year. I also have a gorgeous soft forest-green throw for the bottom to match. I'll post a photo of the bed made up tomorrow.... I didn't bother making it up today as I had a leisurely morning on annual leave Grin excuse the white Sherpa type blanket on it...it's for the dog (he sleeps beside me...spoiled boy that he is!!)

Benjispruce4 · 02/03/2023 18:37

Ooh sounds like a bargain too. Green is my favourite colour.😍

Sooverthemill · 02/03/2023 19:20

@takemebacktothe1990s i was brought up in a very poor family and started working off the books age 13 so I could help out. I only had new clothes when I was able to buy them myself. A bag of hand me downs from a my dads friend's family was pounced on by us all! I altered, dyed and sold them to school friends to make money and I made all my own clothes from age 15 to 22 I think ( even my wedding outfit). Having said that, being a teenager in the early 70s was great fun. So, just enjoy

I sold my clothes on eBay. I still sell stuff on. I 'buy it now' and use the price suggested by the app ( except for Sézane or premium brands it doesn't really recognise). I add about 30p to the Royal Mail postage for packaging ( I try to recycle though) and in 2020 my best year I made over £4500 selling on old stuff. None of it amazing but lots of £10 or £15s. I haven't got in with Vinted at all I don't really understand it ( did I say I'm old?!) but I know @EllaPaella is successful on there

Puddinandpie · 02/03/2023 19:39

@takemebacktothe1990s yay another shein fan, I'm loving your nails by the way, and the colour of your jumper is fab!

Sooverthemill · 02/03/2023 19:42

@takemebacktothe1990s just remembered I sell quite a lot of premium stuff via yourprelovedstories. They charge 30% but get good prices

takemebacktothe1990s · 02/03/2023 19:43

@Sooverthemill thanks for your reply, that's all so interesting! The image of everyone pouncing on a bag of clothes made me smile! Needs must though Grin oh I tried hard to alter clothes....trying to transform "dad fit" jeans to skinnies in the early 90s (the bright almost neon shades) was a disaster and stitching would often come out!!!

I applaud your patience for listing and selling all of your clothes, well done! And what a fantastic result too!

I have piles of clothes in my loft which I'm aiming to slim in to again...I'm getting there slowly but surely, so hopefully I'll manage by the summer months Grin I'm definitely stuck in a bit of a "style rut" from lockdown and subsequently working exclusively from home. I'm hoping being on the thread will make me accountable and smarten me up a bit mid-week!

takemebacktothe1990s · 02/03/2023 19:48

@Puddinandpie thank you! Yes I do love a lot of the things I've got from Shein, the range is incredible! The same dress in every possible neckline or sleeve length has made it a form favourite of mine!
I thought I'd go with a summery colour this time....this is a very pale apricot I do my own gels at home so I change the colour every fortnight or so!
And I do love pink! And green! Definitely my favourite colours although I need to really try harder to get away from dark (black) colours. I absolutely love your style btw, always look forward to seeing what you've wearing!

@Sooverthemill thank you, ive never heard of that one before so I'll have a little look out for it!

EllaPaella · 02/03/2023 20:38

@takemebacktothe1990s I use Vinted a lot for buying and selling but you don't get much for items on there so it's a bit like a clothes swap really. Great for finding a specific item; Recent purchases have included real wool hats, a maxi trench coat and now a grey tweed wool blazer. All great prices. Very straightforward in my experience and never had the faff and bother you get on ebay and no daft selling charges.
I also visit charity shops, it's very hit and miss but every now and then I find a real gem. My grey wool Calvin Klein coat I posted on Tuesday was a from a charity shop in Bath - less than £30 and perfect condition. I spend many a Saturday afternoon browsing charity shops for clothes and furniture as I love an up-cycling project!
Every now and then I might have a splurge on a beautiful jumper from Eribe or Toast but most of my clothes are high street or second hand.
My Grandmother was a very talented dressmaker and knitter and I have a very talented Aunt who is a designer and I wish I had spent more time learning the skills they tried to in-still in me when I was younger as I would love to be able to make my own clothes.
Welcome to the thread.

Puddinandpie · 02/03/2023 20:38

@takemebacktothe1990sawww thank you 😊 absolutely get what you mean about the extensive range of everything, so so much it always blows my mind (the only problem is I want lots from there in the end, because I can never decide, well thats my excuse anyway🤭)
I wish I could do my own gels but I'm pretty crap at not going over the edges, last time I did mine with shein fake nails glued on and they lasted about a month in the end and im quite vigorous with my hands washing up, housework, cooking, crafting, doing extensions and hair also, so I was actually pretty chuffed with myself!! I think it worked out at about £3 or something ridiculous, compared to the usual £50+ last time I paid for acrylics

Puddinandpie · 02/03/2023 20:44

@EllaPaella hello fellow upcycler, I may have to pick your brains from time to time to swap techniques, as I bloody love upcycling, I've just got hold of a lovely little table my next door neighbour was throwing out so will be upcycling that when I get the time!😁

faffadoodledo · 02/03/2023 20:54

Absent for a while because I’ve been on holiday. Still am actually. Flying home tomorrow. And I’ve realised I have no holiday wardrobe shots. Except these rather sweaty hiking ones! Anyway, shorts by Poetry (really lovely cool linen), lime green shirt by Boden and green flowery shirt bought locally. Both worn over a bikini.

I buy a bit on Vinted after seeing the bargains my young DDs(22&19) get. I filter to new with tags. I love buying a few things for the price of one dress on the high st. My DM taught me how to dress make but I haven’t done any since the girls were small and I made them very simple dresses. I can make curtains though- easy straight lines!

EllaPaella · 02/03/2023 21:04

@faffadoodledo what's poetry sizing like? I've had my eye on a pair of trousers for a while

Puddinandpie · 02/03/2023 21:18

@Benjispruce4 I used to make my dd her little dresses also, they were so cute and frilly and pretty patterned, oh how they get soo big to quickly (I still have them all though, can't bare to part with them) and I make curtains, bags, aprons, shirts, I also made a half tester bed canopy, chair covers, pillows, throws among other stuff, but my favourite is actually curtains, i love it😁

EllaPaella · 02/03/2023 21:25

So much talent and creativity on this thread 😊

PumpkinSpicedTea · 02/03/2023 21:51

Hello all. Sorry I seem to dip in and out of this thread and end up just asking questions.

Sorry I can't remember who it was but someone has a really nice pumpkin autumn jumper from Kiel James Patrick and I just remembered about it today. Does anyone know if there's a chance to find a pre loved one somewhere or am I looking for a needle in a haystack? 😂

faffadoodledo · 02/03/2023 21:53

@EllaPaella I’m a 10 or 12 depending on brands and am a firm 10 in Poetry. In fact I also bought some linen trousers for this holiday in a 10 and 12 and returned the 12s. I wouldn’t say I’m particularly willowy either! So I’d suggest a 10 for you, and be prepared to return for an 8.

Netcam · 03/03/2023 06:58

@faffadoodledo looks like a fresh coconut, are you in Asia somewhere? I had been looking at some linen trousers on Poetry, but was unsure as reviews about quality is not great and they are very expensive. The shorts look great though, as well as the scenery. How have you found the quality of the Poetry linen?

Not sold on the trainers with this but unsure what to put with them (needs to also go with orange cords I've just bought)

Sooverthemill · 03/03/2023 09:07

I need to wear this jumper more or sell it on! I forget about it
Cashmere jumper: Boden 2021

@EllaPaella i used to get a fair bit from
