www.theguardian.com/fashion/2023/jan/26/low-rise-waistlines-the-return-of-y2ks-most-debauched-trend

I feel like we've only had higher waisted/trousers that you can get your whole arse in for five minutes. I will not be buying draughty low rise crap. And short tops you can't sit on a bar stool in without doing a builder's bum.

Gah. I think I'll be shopping in the men's department for the foreseeable.

I'm a great fan of compromise. I don't want trousers/jeans that come up so high that wearing a top seems somewhat superfluous and sitting down is really uncomfortable. Likewise I don't want them where they don't cover the briefest pair of knickers I won.

Nanalisa60 · 26/01/2023 13:12

Just another ruse by the fashion industry to get us to buy another load of trousers and jeans.

I obviously won’t be buying into it, lo rise lovely on slim teenagers

Pennyforthezombies · 26/01/2023 13:16

Mid rise yes but couldn’t pull off low rise these days. Hate high waisted though, I’m
short and fed up of waistband under my bust.

sanityisamyth · 26/01/2023 13:18

I nearly had a Miranda moment the other day. A lad was wearing his trousers under his arse and looked like he had shat himself and was sooooo tempted to grab his waistband and pull them up properly!!

peaceandpotato · 26/01/2023 13:21

I can deal with low rise as long as its not also those massive balloon pants

MaverickGooseGoose · 26/01/2023 13:24

I'm too fat now. Please say the thing poking out the top phase isn't coming back!

Lots of the balloon pants in primark at the weekend...

BreakfastOfWaffles · 26/01/2023 13:26

I will be sticking to high rise. I am a convert since switching last year. Game changer for the chubby of hip like me.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 26/01/2023 13:28

Anything that gets rid of ‘Mom’ cut, high rise is good for me.

They suit only the very very slim. I am tall, with slim and m long legs but a short hip to waist ratio. High rise sit under my boobs / on my ribs and are very uncomfortable and ugly. Add the ‘Mom’ leg width and I look like a balloon shaped clown.

Mid rise all the way. Just some choice would be nice tbf.

I detest them. I'm sure they look nice on someone though.

Catspyjamas17 · 26/01/2023 13:42

Yes, I don't object to them existing at all, but it just felt like with the last trend I couldn't buy any trousers which sat where I would want them to from about 2000 to 2015.

I’ll be buying several pairs of high rise jeans and stashing them 😂
I didn’t like low rise last time round. I’ve a naturally high waist and I’m pear shaped, low rise never fitted me. Oh and the whole thong hanging out at the top was hideous Shock

LlynTegid · 26/01/2023 18:10

Agree 100% with you OP.

I wonder if there is some secret group that meets to think of the most stupid fashion idea, and then later on laughs at having convinced too many people to follow said idea.

Annabel073 · 26/01/2023 21:34

I love low rise trousers.

SharpLily · 26/01/2023 21:39

I love low rise - I'm long legged but also short waisted and low rise are the only style that actually hits my waist so I'm delighted they're back. Normal rise comes up around my ribs, so not comfortable and looks shit, and you can forget about high waisted. I can tuck my boobs into those.

MadeOfSteel · 26/01/2023 22:02

Oh no! Low rise has to be one of the most unflattering trends ever! I'd hoped we'd seen the back of that forever.

QueenOfHiraeth · 26/01/2023 23:08

I'm old enough to ignore fashion and am now like one of those little old men whose waistband rises yearly. It'll be up to my boobs soon Grin

LeCarre · 27/01/2023 00:12

What I’ve never understood is why women’s shops only offer one cut? (Yes I know they label them differently like ‘bootleg’ etc but they’re all so similar really).

Why can’t they sell high waist and also sell low rise and let women 😱 choose what we wear?

For about 15 yrs all the jeans were skinny wtf was that about, I have curves so had to stop wearing jeans til skinny fit became a little less omnipresent.

Whitefly · 27/01/2023 01:55

My poor muffin top needs early retirement.

asquideatingdough · 27/01/2023 02:05

I prefer high rise because I can tuck my vest in easily and don't have a drafty gap. I can't be the only one!

Also as a pear shaped woman, high rise is more flattering as the trousers come in at my narrowest spot. But I do think lower rise if you are a more rectangular shape can be more flattering.

I agree why not have a variety of rises? And never bring skinnies back thank you!

Guavafish1 · 27/01/2023 02:15

It's nice for the next generation and anyone that wants to wear them!

I won't wear them now... too overweight.

magicthree · 27/01/2023 03:24

I don't like low rise or high rise. Whatever happened to something sensible in the middle??

EarlyInTheMorning · 27/01/2023 05:31

I am short and high rise trousers are a nightmare

TheBelmont · 27/01/2023 05:47

i loved that look back in the day…I had the flattest belly without trying and was a die hard fan of low cut jeans with a cute crop top. was able to style it out right through the early naughties. Then of course I hit my 30s and it all went wrong! I wouldn’t dare these days (post children and discovery of wine and cheese) but I liked looking at that photo of destinys child in the guardian link…that was me and my pals in 2000 (nostalgic!)

sjxoxo · 27/01/2023 06:08

Saw that article and thought the same 🤣🤣😂 sticking with high waisted here, low rise are so uncomfortable and unflattering on anyone not a size 6!!! x
