I feel like we've only had higher waisted/trousers that you can get your whole arse in for five minutes. I will not be buying draughty low rise crap. And short tops you can't sit on a bar stool in without doing a builder's bum.

Gah. I think I'll be shopping in the men's department for the foreseeable.

i loved that look back in the day…I had the flattest belly without trying and was a die hard fan of low cut jeans with a cute crop top. was able to style it out right through the early naughties. Then of course I hit my 30s and it all went wrong! I wouldn’t dare these days (post children and discovery of wine and cheese) but I liked looking at that photo of destinys child in the guardian link…that was me and my pals in 2000 (nostalgic!)

Wish this was me! I thought I had the right look going at the time, but I was and am a bit fat and looking back at photos my belly was hanging over the top and flopping around! Argh!

I won't be going back, low to high rise pants is a one way trip for me.

Offdutypead · 27/01/2023 06:15

Low rise trews will always have a special place in my heart. I even wore them throughout my pregnancies just slung below the bump, soo comfortable.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 27/01/2023 06:16

magicthree · 27/01/2023 03:24

I don't like low rise or high rise. Whatever happened to something sensible in the middle??

I agree, I loathe high rise, so ridiculously high on me I have to wonder whether I should tuck my bra into them! Really low rise aren't that comfortable either, I'm happy with an inch or two below my navel.

StopFeckingFaffing · 27/01/2023 06:22

Agree with you OP, it's a hard noooooooo from me too

I was so happy when high waists were back in the shops!!

JamSandle · 27/01/2023 06:23

I think its a gorgeous look. Not for me. I cant pull it off!

Yarrawonga · 27/01/2023 10:40

The papers predict this virtually every year and nothing seems to come of it.

It’s a style that suits me and I’m lucky to have the stomach for it, so it’s a big yeeeeeeeeeeees from me. I’ll give the visible thong look a miss though.

KirstenBlest · 27/01/2023 13:39

Ugh! The whale tail.

Vallmo47 · 27/01/2023 13:45

Never understand why we can’t have options.

I’ll be buying several pairs of high rise jeans and stashing them 😂
I didn’t like low rise last time round. I’ve a naturally high waist and I’m pear shaped, low rise never fitted me. Oh and the whole thong hanging out at the top was hideous Shock

<panic-buys high-rise>

I'm sooo with you on this. I'm hourglass with a naturally high waist. Everything attempts to become high-rise on me, and mid-risers trying to saw through my crotch as they migrate is not fun.

ichundich · 27/01/2023 13:49

This is why I get my jeans from charity shops. With a bit of patience you'll find any style you like in there.

Catspyjamas17 · 27/01/2023 14:00

I remember the original Levis 501s, so fashionable in the late 1980s and used to be really low, remember trying loads of pairs on in different sizes when I was 13/14 and a size ten and couldn't get my arse or thighs in them. Made me feel fat and I definitely wasn't😡just sporty, strong of thigh and not gazelle-legged as fashion dictated then. Such a relief when baggies/flares/bootcut became fashionable in 1990. I could hardly ever get a pair of jeans to fit properly until then.

I like most trousers to sit around my belly button. Whatever size I've been and however toned I always have a little chonk of fat just below which I definitely do not want sitting above my trouser line, or to have the waistband squished across the middle of it. But yes, choice is the thing. A lot of shops only do one length of trousers in particular styles though, let alone different waist styles and heights! The one length is usually 29" which is infuriating as I need 31/32".

M&S women's chinos are a case in point, they are all tapered, slim fit, ankle grazing, mostly pastel shades and it doesn't even tell you in most cases what the length is. My absolute pet hate is ankle grazing trousers, particularly in winter. It just looks like your trousers do not fit properly and are neither one thing nor another. And when it's single figures in temperature I do not want draughty ankles, or to wear pastel shades in winter mud and wet weather.

No doubt next year they will add "low rise" into the mix. I ended up getting a couple of pairs of the men's as I could buy them based on measurements, and they were sensible colours like navy blue and black.

Cant we all just wear the jeans we feel best in without worrying their in fashion or not?

I love low rise skinnies but I'm short with a lordosis and I haven't felt the need to run out and buy baggier jeans.

Catspyjamas17 · 27/01/2023 14:26

Trouble is, fashion often dictates what is stocked in shops.

notanicepersonapparently · 27/01/2023 14:39

I used to wear low rise the last time they were in, not because I liked them, but just because I couldn’t find anything else in the shops. A particular low point was the J Brand Love story jean which were bell bottom which I was persuaded to buy. Low rise jeans sit below my hip bones meaning I need a belt to keep them up and creating a muffin top even though I was comparatively slim back then. I love a mid rise and a high rise too as long as the waistband isn’t too tight.

petermaddog · 27/01/2023 14:52

i have been wearing hip huggers
since 1969
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hip-huggers
i am short waisted and long legged
they look good on me

Never understand why we can’t have options.

High street retailing and the fact we lack the pride in appearance the Italians and French have.

dew141 · 27/01/2023 15:01

I loathe high rise jeans. I genuinely don't think the bulk of the fabric is particularly flattering even on slim people.

I've been stuck with only two jean designs for five years waiting for low rise to return!

WhoppingBigBackside · 27/01/2023 17:02

That is a myth IMO, @LlynTegid .

WhoppingBigBackside · 27/01/2023 17:09

I don't like high waisted either. I have some and my belly looks huge in them. not saying it isn't huge but I look ok in mid-rise or at least I think I do
The high-waisted jeans are lovely otherwise, but just maybe I shouldn't be shopping in outlets aimed at teenagers.

TwoMonthsOff · 27/01/2023 17:42

I think destiny’s child look really lovely in that photo

Zooeyzo · 27/01/2023 17:44

Oh I read about this and thought thank goodness I'm too old to care. It's a fashion strictly for under 30s
I remember cutting off the waistband of my my already low jeans and pairing it with a teeny crochet bra top in the early noughties in my early 20s.

Annabel073 · 27/01/2023 17:52

Not at all. Plenty of women older than 30 look fabulous in low rise trousers.

Zipps · 27/01/2023 18:00

I won't be buying any, I had a pair once most uncomfortable item of clothing ever. The zip was about two inches long.
I had less pain with appendicitis.
