Oh give them a go @dudsville, they might be great on you. Pleats just do not work for me…a combination of no hips, a large belly, and short legs I think.
The pandemic and perimenopause have coincided for me and turned me into a much rounder version of myself, which I am not at all comfortable with. Nothing fits right anymore and I just feel rubbish about it. I need to kick myself up the arse and try and do something about it, but all the other delights of perimenopause mean that I just haven’t got the energy or the drive. Maybe my inability to fit into the Toast dresses in my wardrobe will finally give me the push I need!

lordloveadog · 09/02/2023 21:37

@ScottishMouse that sounds disappointing! But efficient.

I'm not doing Dry Toast Feb, I'm doing trying things on and probably appalling the DHL man.

Next month I have to go on a frankly terrifying work trip of DH's to a resort in a hot country. The invitation mentions 'resort wear', which is a new concept for me. I am a middle-aged academic. I have dog walking clothes, clothes for teaching and conferences, and clothes for playing with children on a beach somewhere very not posh. All the other female plus ones will be 10-15 years younger than me and mostly pre-children. Except the one I know, who is only 8 years younger but about 45kg lighter.

Realised this trip is now actually quite soon and it doesn't look like another covid wave is coming to prevent it. Have ordered the lotus print trousers and a couple of dresses which I hope might turn out to be resort wear but also commensurate with my age and dignity.

Will see on Monday.

OOOhh I'm loving some of the new things! This skirt and sandals (looks like neither are available yet)- really bummed that I just bought a pair of black fracap sandals though, these Toast ones look just that bit extra special.

Also- crossing my fingers that they'll have a female version of this coral check shirt. Gives me 90's tourist vibes and I need it!

Looks like I'm really having a check moment haha

lordloveadog · 09/02/2023 21:51

Happy, those are gorgeous!

Saurus72 · 09/02/2023 22:00

@ScottishMouse I really DON’T want to overstep the mark here so pls ignore me if inappropriate. It sounds like we’re a similar age and I got much chunkier in lockdown, no energy, so so anxious, all around not good. HRT feels like a different country, truly transformational.

AFingerofFudge · 09/02/2023 22:07

@ScottishMouse I am with you on the pandemic/peri menopause effect on my body. Definitely feeling plump and cannot imagine I will float around in any of my current dresses, even if they fit.

ScottishMouse · 09/02/2023 22:21

Not overstepping at all @Saurus72. Have given hrt a go previously and it didn’t suit me. Not ruling out trying again though. GlD you are getting on well with it, it’s a truly hideous time of life.
Solidarity @AFingerofFudge , it really sucks.

neveradullmoment99 · 09/02/2023 22:21

I'm the same, weight wise. Gone from a 12 to a 14 in about a year. Its crap. The worst thing is the thick waist and my tummy.
Trying to lose it is depressingly slow.
Definitely menopause.

They have a scarf in the shirt print.

Noodle421 · 09/02/2023 22:34

@Saurus72 I totally agree with you. I’m in the same boat and HRT has been transformational on so many levels. @ScottishMouse I have similar body issues and feel heavier than normal but it’s all about finding the right fit. It is quite hit and miss to find a Toast dress that works in reality, so please don’t feel bad. You tried on the same crinkled check pinafore dress as I did and felt the same way- it was too tight across my chest and I looked matronly ( it’s waiting to be returned ) whereas my other black/ecru checked cotton/cashmere dress bought in the autumn ( still online) feels fabulous on, it’s soft and most importantly a flattering and comfortable fit and I’ve had many compliments. It’s loose and forgiving but shapely. I’m pleased the other one is going back.

Saurus72 · 09/02/2023 22:46

Ah sorry it didn’t work for you @ScottishMouse - fingers crossed there’s a version/combination that could suit you.

@Noodle421 It’s been truly miraculous for me. I knew I was feeling utterly miserable but hadn’t realised how bad it had got. I now have energy! Don’t feel like the world is caving in! And the anxiety…I don’t miss her 😬

Noodle421 · 09/02/2023 22:51

@Saurus72 Me too !! but I still have to watch and remember to look after and be kind to myself. I feel more fragile generally. HRT has given me back my energy but I can become quite low if I don’t exercise and I can’t tolerate alcohol in the way I used to X

Noodle421 · 09/02/2023 22:52

Glad you feel so much better X

Saurus72 · 09/02/2023 23:00

Ooh weird about alcohol - I definitely can’t tolerate it like I used to but I still love wine. I also don’t beat myself up like I used to. Yoga and meditation classes are really helping too.

Stoic123 · 10/02/2023 00:25

Solidarity! Another one on HRT, a complete loss of tolerance for alcohol (one glass only) and a size 14 after decades as a smaller size 12. I've just started intermittent fasting again as it seems to help the belly.

Toast styles are mixed on me. A lot of them look truly awful but, when they do suit, boy they can look darn flattering. I've learnt to try on a lot of Toast as, colour aside, I can never tell from seeing on hanger/models if something will look good on me or not.

dudsville · 10/02/2023 07:22

@lordloveadog , that trip dress code would induce panic in me, but i would trust Toast too! What a wonderful to have to buy the lotus trousers!

I tried hrt a couple of years ago and didn't get on with it. I had to use the patches, so i always had a ring of square marks on me, they didn't help me sleep and moodwise i felt odd, but then we had a bereavement and i just didn't feel myself so i stopped. I'm thankful i haven't had a hot flush properly in a couple of years at least. But the weight gain and the impossibility of shifting it has been a downer. After being thin my whole life, minus a blip following a string of pregnancies 38 to 40, I stupidly gained weight early pandemic. I have shifted some but still a stone and a half over what i was. I was in danger of giving up so even though I'm not losing weight i now see the healthy change as a lifelong lifestyle shift and hope the weight loss catches up at some point! I really enjoy alcohol but decided it's just another thing getting in the way of weight loss so I've pulled back.

The way I'm wearing my toast clothes accentuate my weight, but i do favour comfort still.

Now, in orange news, i found a pair of orange arizonas on amazon last night. Weird impulse buy!

dudsville · 10/02/2023 07:24

Nothing to see here...

On we go Toasties heading for Spring???
Stoic123 · 10/02/2023 07:39

@lordloveadog - please report back on Lotus Trousers!

ScottishMouse · 10/02/2023 07:53

Oh no, I’ve turned this thread into a menopause woe-is-me moan! Apologies to the younger folk among us!!

Snowyowl78 · 10/02/2023 08:20

I love the look of those Lotus trousers @lordloveadog i think they would be perfect for what your describe- hope they work! I wonder if the new Windflower pjs and the ‘lounge dress’ would also work? On holiday I have been wearing Toast pj bottoms as summer trousers and they really work.
Theres also a pair of shorts on the website (bitter choc) that look like the same cut as the space check ones from last year, they haven’t been getting much love on there but if they are the same, they are really flattering and comfy.

interested to hear about the intolerance for alcohol, I have been getting this too but put it down to stress. Doesn’t stop me persevering though!

tempted to order a load of new stuff just to try on and prep myself for considered sale purchases. Although will take some willpower to return it if it works! I could do with crossing some stuff off my long list. I really want that black coloured mariners tee, is wildly expensive but looks like my perfect Tshirt!

Snowyowl78 · 10/02/2023 08:23

There’s also a whole load of new Emma’s and boy tees which I want now, but I really really shouldn’t as I have so many toast tees!!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 10/02/2023 08:59

I’ve looked at those bitter chocolate shorts @Snowyowl78 as I wore the space check ones loads last year. I really like the colour but I’m not sure investing in more shorts is worth it, a lot will depend on this years weather and my continuing to be brave about my legs at my age.

I also like the look of the Indigo trousers, but I bought so many toast trousers last summer that I think I need to unpack my summer clothes and take an inventory before I buy any more.

Snowyowl78 · 10/02/2023 09:07

@Theteapotsbrokenspout i like the look of them as I think the colour will be very flattering on my skin tone and also they will go with most colours. That said I did buy 4 pairs of shorts last summer! Space check ones being the winners!

Stravaig · 10/02/2023 09:27

The Lotus Leaf trousers also caught my eye; also the Birch Alix, that green gingham!

If someone is trying either of them at home, and has the time, could you measure the front rise and inside leg please?

I have a feeling the Birch Alix are my loathed triumvirate of high waist, dropped crotch, cropped legs, but I can dream about the Lotus Leaf for now.

@lordloveadog That dress code would terrify me! Knitwear and wellies, I excel. Summer wardrobe is the same two outfits worn a few times a year for decades 🤣

On we go Toasties heading for Spring???
