Gosh you're all very talkative on Saturdays!

I tried asking the chat about sale returns (the blue round cashmere jumper), inspired by the boot success. But was just told the sale is closed, which was a bit sad.

There are a few things I'd like to try in the current collection, but the EU price mark up is massive and I'm not coming to UK until April. Am contemplating ordering here and then sending back and if I like anything, ordering it to UK address and collecting in April. But maybe that's nuts.

Just been in Toast and my wishlist has changed radically. I no longer want the ticking dress or ticking trousers that I was lusting after. I do want the Franca navy twill dress, the blue cashmere round neck cardigan and the navy loop back trousers, none of which were on my radar before I saw them on the hanger.

I have also just done a mooch and the sales assistant showed me a dress which will be available in the next few weeks. All I can say is I put down what I was looking at and will be saving my pennies.

On the Toast Mayfair instagram someone is wearing the slate drawstring dress and I was just thinking it looks like my sort of thing- then I checked the price! £295! Wtf.

has anyone tried it? Is it very thick/heavy?

Goodness!
Not really sure how they can justify that?
It's nice enough but £295 ?

@Noodle421 I usually wash knitwear after 2/3 wears, leaving to air in between.
Washing gently also removes any loose fibres which can bobble and the bobbles then pull in more fibres and so on.
I do have masses of knitwear though so it's on rotation.

Oooh @TerrierOrTerror can you give us some clues !

@Countmeout - trousers below for you. In a Small (not very small) - the leg looks extremely wide!
I tried on the Blundstones and the 6 is massive - also not as nice a colour as I'd thought
Also tried the chambray shirt which looks so lovely on everyone except me, sadly. Maybe to do with the mini changing room though
So it was a productive visit but I didn't want to buy anything

Thank you @faustina . Much appreciated.
I fear they do look very wide. Probably will discount those.

I find I’m better buying online as I like time to think- so maybe the chambray would look different at home with other bits of your wardrobe .

I think I agree with you @Countmeout - I'm more used to trying things at home now and it's a much less frazzling experience

I didn't think much of the colour of those trousers tbh - they were less vibrant in real life, and looked quite shapeless

I’m ridiculously excited about getting my spring/summer Toast clothes from loft. Too early yet in a very wet and cold Scotland but looking forward to it. Have convinced myself it will be like having brand new clothes.

I’m shocked by the creases in those trousers if they are on a shop floor! It makes me think that the fabric is poor quality and less than substantial. Are they meant to be ‘lounge wear’ as I think they are more PJ bottoms than day wear to be seen out and about in?

@ilovecherries - me too! I wear so much more Toast once the weather gets a bit warmer - can get out all my lovely linen and cotton trousers and not have to hide everything under a big jumper

Wow, those red check trousers looking shocking! Thanks @faustina for the sleuthing!

@Blossomtoes , oh no, that tickng dress is one of the v few things i like currently. What put you off it?

Interesting chat re knitwear storage. I use ecover wool wash and think it smells really nice. Like upthread, i also do an end of season wash, mend, debobble. My knit wear is never against my skin and i avoid things like smelly caffs and wood fires. I am tempted to get the vacuum bags just so i don't have to worry about them for a few months. We have one built in closet that has some cedar shelving, amongst other things my toast wool trouse4s hang there, so i will keep the knitwear in there in future, but it's awkward as it means shifting things to somewhere else... my mum's old house has an enormous built in closet that's entirely lined in cedar. I'm so envious.

I’m really interested to learn all about looking after toast cashmere.
Does anyone have any specific tips for washing the t shirts?
Toast t shirts are on the short side for me and I’m very scared if they aren’t washed properly they will shrink and ride up even higher!

Countmeout · 05/02/2023 07:10

I’m afraid I would have wanted them for daywear @SmaugMum . I do like a gingham trouser in the summer. But the width rules them out. I like things slightly narrower. And it sounds as if the colour is slightly disappointing too.

Re the knitwear. There was a video of Toast live about caring for knitwear. I’m not sure if it is still there
I washed all my knitwear and bagged it 2 summers ago, was too lazy last year but think I may do it again this year. The only mistake I made was being a bit heavy handed with the softener and it was overpowering when I debagged them again.
I hand wash my Toast jumpers but am more cavalier with Marks cashmere. It goes in the wool wash of the machine.

I was looking for the knitwear care video but ended up watching the Folkhause lady one just wanted to say I liked the all yellow outfit. Also she's made me consider the lounge clothes more. I'm off to see whether a top knot would look silly in me.

And how as a result of the video binge i also want the ecru dungarees. I do not need ecru dungarees...

I do tend to baby my clothes a bit, but I do all my nice (expensive!) tee shirts together. They go inside out in individual net bags, washed on delicates at 30, gentle spin, reshaped while damp to preserve length and either dried outside by armpits or draped over a couple of spars of the airer. Most are still almost as new despite being several years old. And I do iron as well.

Following knitwear care conversation with interest.

I generally avoid washing too much but have a Donegal jumper (not Toast) that was too long - washed in machine (coolish) deliberately to shrink and then reshaped while damp to get width back but not length. Perfect shape now. Fairly robust though- wouldn't risk with some of my favourites.

Thank you!
Are the shirts in net bags to stop them snagging against each other in the machine or does it stop them unduly stretching while being washed?
Also, would you wash the autumny coloured shirts with black/dark coloured?
I love the idea of the machine as I don’t think I would be able to sustain hand washing!

Although not necessarily delicates I do have a problem with the colour fastness of some Toast clothes. The worst for me is my green Ashley jeans. I’ve had them ages and washed them loads, but the colour still comes out and will dye anything I wash them with. I’ve given up now and always wash them on their own.

Report
Countmeout · 05/02/2023 12:23

Yes the colour needs to be watched, I think it was @faustina who alerted us to the brass Alix running too.
I am trying to wash things as little as possible and air things out when I can instead. More to do with not wanting things to shrink or wear too much rather than saving the planet. 😬

I find the bags help avoid them pulling out of shape. I don’t mix lights and darks but most colours do go in together. I will wash colours like indigo/slate et by hand the first time just in case of colour bleed.
