Does a Hollywood wax itch as it regrows?

Booked for Saturday and having second thoughts! Is it going to be horrendously itchy as it regrows? It does when I shave as I have very thick dark hair. Might switch to a standard wax instead if so! Thanks in advance.

I used to get Hollywoods and now get Brazilians with everything off except a little strip.

I find it does itch a bit as it regrows, but nowhere near as bad as shaving. I use a special serum (yes, it exists 😂) which really helps. It's by one of the razor brands - Venus maybe or Gillette or something.

SeasonsBleatings · 01/01/2023 12:19

That's really helpful thanks. I might switch to a Brazilian as to be honest I saw the offer and didn't realise what I was signing up for!

I prefer Brazilian for the look, but tbh, it's the same process. All the bits get waxed off except a strip at the very front iyswim.

If you don't want them to wax everywhere then just get a normal / extended bikini wax. That is a lot less invasive.

I have regular Hollywood waxes and have never had this problem with itchiness, albeit I have had waxes for 20 odd years.

The only thing I suffer from are the occasional ingrown hair.

Newlifenewme · 01/01/2023 13:41

I have regular Hollywood waxes front and cough back. Never had a problem with itching. I used to shave in my 20s and that was horrendous for itching and bumps but waxing never. Defo recommend, everything feels so clean

ednatheevilwitch · 01/01/2023 13:42

Waxing is waaaaay less itchy when it grows back!

FortyFacedFuckers · 01/01/2023 13:54

Been getting these waxes for 20+ years and no itching

TheBestUsernamesAreGone · 01/01/2023 14:08

What is a Hollywood? I could Google but this feels safer.

F4chrissakes · 01/01/2023 14:08

The ingrown hairs made me decide to forego waxing. Shaving works for me, but then I am fair and not particularly hairy anywhere anyway. Shaving does itch at first I admit, but giving down there a quick going over (and I do all over) with a razor every other day doesn't itch me at all these days.

JerkintheMerkin · 01/01/2023 14:17

@TheBestUsernamesAreGone a Hollywood is EVERYTHING down there waxed. Front and back.

😂 I should really have looked before I booked but I do have the option of switching to another treatment (it's an any two treatments for £50 offer) and booking a more basic wax in addition instead!

They usually ask me if I want the back done tbf. It isn't mandatory! So if that's what you don't want, you can always say not to bother with that bit.

Wheelyweddingwipedout · 01/01/2023 15:03

Absolutely no itchiness but please check the therapist uses hot wax not strip wax.

ThisIsNotThePostYourLookingFor · 01/01/2023 19:18

I had my first one in November and I was shocked at how painful it was! No itchiness so far though with any growback. I would love to know a way to numb the area that wouldn’t affect the hot wax if anyone knows of a way?

Squirrelblanket · 01/01/2023 20:50

@ThisIsNotThePostYourLookingFor Two ibuprofen and a large glass of wine beforehand. 😂

I might need the whole bottle next time 😆

It doesn't itch remotely for me unlike shaving which is hellish

NameIsBryceQuinlan · 01/01/2023 20:54

I leave a small triangle not totally all off. I prefer the look.

Iamnotausername · 01/01/2023 20:58

How exactly do they do the back? Do you have to lie there with your hands opening your bum cheeks? 😳

Exactly this! 😂. I used to be embarrassed but they’ve seen it all before so now I don’t give a hoot.

to answer your question OP - no itching with regrowth at all!! A million times better than shaving . Go for it.

AutumnIsMyFavouriteSeason · 01/01/2023 21:13

I've been meaning to go for one. What's hot wax versus strip wax please? What's Brazilian wax?

NameIsBryceQuinlan · 01/01/2023 21:40

When I get it done you lie with your legs in butterfly on your back for most of it. Then the bum bit you bring your knees to your chest.

Hot wax is a heavy layer of thick wax they coat on a small area of skin. They wait about a minute till it cools then pull it off.

Strip wax is a thinner consistency looks like thick honey, they do a thin layer, add a strip of special paper, press it in, then they pull the paper off.

I find strip wax much more painful and I would never have this on my nether regions!

NameIsBryceQuinlan · 01/01/2023 21:42

Brazilian wax they leave a small strip or triangle of hair but remove the sides, across your labia and around your bum.

Hollywood is all off.

There's not a huge difference between the two really.

A "normal bikini wax" they tend to just do around the sides, not the labia or bum.

sunshinesallday · 01/01/2023 22:00

I'm not v hairy, and have been doing it for years. never have a problem with itchiness. the back part is the best part - I didn't realise how hairy it was until it was gone!!

WafflesOrIceCream · 01/01/2023 22:03

No it doesn't grow back itchy!I get the hollywood and the back done.
