Necklace for £50

User57713 · 29/12/2022 17:27

I got £50 in a Christmas card from my grandad. He died just before Christmas but he had made up cards for all of us with £50 in.

I want to spend it on a necklace. I tend to wear gold rather than silver.

I don't really want to add any extra money, I want it to be something I've bought with his money if that makes sense. But I can if £50 won't buy anything decent.

Obviously I'm not looking for real diamonds or anything at that price, just something that looks nice.

Can anyone suggest where to look?

Thank you

Monica Vinader has some beautiful chains in the sale, how about this one? www.monicavinader.com/twist-chain/gold-vermeil-disco-chain-necklace-adjustable-46-51-18-20

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 29/12/2022 17:35

Yes I was going to say Monica Vinader too.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 29/12/2022 17:37

Also I'm very sorry about your grandad. Flowers I hope you find a lovely necklace.

Adviceneeded200 · 29/12/2022 17:37

It's a lovely idea. My Mum, who died in May bought my daughter a necklace for her birthday in April and it means the world to her. Hers was silver and from a silversmith, so not somewhere you'd find your choice.

I would try Etsy

quietlycontent · 30/12/2022 00:08

You might want to try a jewellery shop with pre owned jewellery. You don't pay VAT so get more for your money

ReindeerBelieve · 30/12/2022 00:33

If you were after silver I would have suggested Dower & Hall of even Dinny Hall who both have a sale on

Monica Vindor
Etsy
Astley Clarke

Oops I meant to add that it is a lovely idea and I am sorry about your loss

I’ve been looking at this site, seems the right sort of budget.

I'm sorry for your loss. I think if it were me, I'd want something that would last a long time as a memento and I think it will be hard to find solid gold for under £50. Gold vermeil or plate just doesn't last well and the gold will rub off over time. How about a pendant that you could put on a chain you've already got? You might be able to get a small gold pendant for £50 in a sale or second hand.

Delectable · 30/12/2022 11:37

Are you going abroad soon? Inamy countries gold is plentiful and affordable. That way you can buy a gold pendant and necklace, ring or earrings and it will stay the same colour and be passed on as a heirloom.

User57713 · 30/12/2022 16:17

@WhereAreWeNow I actually looked at that exact pendant yesterday and couldn't decide if it would look tiny and a bit shit.

But I agree with your logic of buying solid gold rather than something that won't last so I might go for it.

Oh I like that! Tiny doesn’t mean shit IMO. It can look very classic and timeless.

User57713 · 30/12/2022 16:40

Okay I've bought it.

My grandparents didnt own much but did always try to buy the best they could afford so they would both appreciate my choice I
think.

Thanks for all your advice

How funny that you'd looked at the exact same one @User57713 . I think it's really nice. I like simple, delicate jewellery and it's great that it's solid gold rather than plate. You'll be able to keep it forever and it will remind you of your grandad.

Smilingthroughtears · 15/01/2023 17:23

Merci Maman. There’s a good sale at the moment. I have worn one of their necklaces for 7 years ish.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 15/01/2023 17:27

Vinader are plated, just crap really. I’d either go for decent ish silver (won’t get top quality at that price) or if you’re willing, look for secondhand. You can get great silver or ok gold for that price on eBay.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 15/01/2023 17:28

Sorry, see you’ve bought it. It looks lovely.

Loobieloogold · 15/01/2023 17:51

oooo, that is lovley!

Eatentoomanyroses · 15/01/2023 17:57

If you want gold you need something that won’t tarnish. I have one from here and I wear it in the shower. Had it a year and still looks the same olivia-brown.com/collections/necklaces. Mine is the little heart pendant

Lullab · 15/01/2023 17:58

Maybe go for second-hand jewelry and look at an auction house, ebay or pawn shop? Frequently these will sell for the same price as just the weight of the gold.

BellaVida22 · 15/01/2023 18:03

Ah enjoy!
