Necklace for £50

User57713 · 29/12/2022 17:27

I got £50 in a Christmas card from my grandad. He died just before Christmas but he had made up cards for all of us with £50 in.

I want to spend it on a necklace. I tend to wear gold rather than silver.

I don't really want to add any extra money, I want it to be something I've bought with his money if that makes sense. But I can if £50 won't buy anything decent.

Obviously I'm not looking for real diamonds or anything at that price, just something that looks nice.

Can anyone suggest where to look?

Thank you

Hi I was thinking if you could get a locket and have it engraved with your grandads handwriting, I wish I had a finger print or something engraved after my mum passed

If you want gold you need something that won’t tarnish. I have one from here and I wear it in the shower. Had it a year and still looks the same olivia-brown.com/collections/necklaces. Mine is the little heart pendant

Gold doesn’t tarnish.

Sorry to hear about your grandad. Perhaps you could just buy a solid gold charm of pendant and add to a gold necklace or bracelet that you already own. I would def look at second hand jewellery much better quality. Don’t know where you live but Brighton lanes or Hatton garden london maybe ? Or even large John Lewis stores have preloced jewellery range. Take your time and find something gorgeous xx

I'm always amazed at the prices of pieces of 18K gold jewellery I see in a local antiques arcade. They're so reasonable! You could find a really special piece - for that price, probably a small locket or brooch, maybe a chain, and it would have some age and history to it. The quality will probably be higher too, in terms of workmanship. My diamond engagement ring (currently sadly AWOL) was Victorian and we got 'a lot of bang for our buck' because it wasn't brand new, plus it's classic and interesting. So go antiques shopping! (not somewhere wanky like a touristy town, try smaller towns that have antiques shops.)
