Perfumes that last

Hi all,
I'm looking for perfume help. When I was young and a women warning perfume entered the room, you were able to smell the lovely scent through the room and as they walked past. Nowadays perfumes seem to be very light and can only be smelled when standing right next to the perfume. Does anyone have suggestions for stronger perfumes which be smelt when entering and walking around a room and perfumes that will last throughout the day? Thanks

Narciso Rodriguez Ambrée is the longest lasting scent I’ve ever had. After that, Chanel perfumes in general tend to last pretty well.

Yes, I remember that, I wonder if they became lighter when restaurateurs were complaining about the smell overpowering the food? I definitely remember the backlash against perfumes such as Opium etc

I spray it on my clothes, not skin, in the hope it lasts longer.

I’ve had Penhaligon sample sets (can’t quite stretch the afford the full size bottles) & they last all day.

@FiveShelties Giorgio Beverly Hills was banned in many restaurants for overpowering the food!

@ilovepuppies2019 Some of the longest lasting perfumes I know are CK Obsession for Women, Papillon Tobacco Rose (36 hours!), 4160 Tuesdays Sex Goddess, Guerlain Mitsouko EDP and Shalimar EDP, Estee Lauder Knowing and Youth Dew and Clinique Aromatics Elixir which has Olympian stamina and smells better as the day goes on.

I have Narcisso Rodriguez Musc Noir Rose, people make comment about how lovely it is when I go in to work in the afternoon having spraying it in the morning so it must last.

I can smell it all day but I think that's just because I love it so much 😂

A lot of perfumes have been reformulated in the last 20 years or so. A lot of it is legislative; certain parts of the world (California is one, the EU is another, the UK too) brought in legislation surrounding things like known irritants and allergens, ingredients that were derived from animals (such as civet or musk) or animal cruelty practices, and also certain carcinogens. Of course, a lot of these nasties were the reason that perfumes lasted longer!

Prada Candy Kiss .. I can smell it all day on myself .. got to be sure to get the right one though .. there are a couple of Candy ones

Frederic Malle ones such as Portrait of a Lady last ages. I have a colleague who wears this and I can smell when she's been in a room. It is lovely but v expensive.

My late DM's favourite was Magie Noir. I bought some on a nostalgic whim, and now wear it a lot. It alters over the course of a few hours and (to me - YMMV) such a glamorous, grown-up fragrance. And blimey, does it last.

Clinique Aromatics. More an evening perfume but lasts and smells fantastic.

Coco Mademoiselle llasts on clothes through laundering and ironing in my experience..

It's the most adhesive in my perfume wardrobe.

Santal 33 lasts for ages.

I really rate the Byredo perfumes for this, they are pricy but last really well.

Estee Lauder Sensuous lasts for bloody days even with daily showers. I think it lasts too long but it meets your brief

I second Penhaligons. I sprayed some Halfiti on myself in the shop and it was still strong (maybe too strong) when I went to bed. Ditto with a sample of The Favourite. They’re too expensive in full size, especially as I’m concerned I might get sick of them well before finishing the bottle.

Yes! Penhaligons Halfeti is my favourite. I adore it. It lasts ALL day. But at £180 a bottle, you do pay for it.

I'm going to be the killjoy here and say that much as I LOVE perfumes, I really hate being able to smell peoples choices from a distance of more than a couple of feet. It's obnoxious and ( from my point of view) often favoured by people who like incredibly sweet gourmands and/or shriekingly 'loud' scents. I'm looking at you, Angel and Aromatics Elixr ( which I do quite like, but everyone oversprays imo).

Everyone goes nose-blind to their own scents after a while, so I just want to advocate for a little restraint!

Buy around Black Friday. They normally sell for almost half price so long as you don't want the special box for them.

Mon Guerlain lasts for hours on me, also Black Opium. The longest lasting perfume I own is Miller Harris Scherzo, that keeps going until the following day!

Yes I have that one too! The MH one. It's another one of my favourites and it does last a very long time. Not sure about their other scents as Scherzo is the only one I like.

Many people really don't want to smell wafts of other people's perfume.

Especially if it triggers asthma or migraine for them.

It's a very awkward conversation with a staff member to tell them their signature scent sent someone to A&E.
