Where on earth is your charity shop? Knightsbridge?!

ShangPie · 20/12/2022 22:05

Aquascutum quilted jacket
Moncler down jacket
Jil Sander ankle boots
toast blazer
LK Bennett black riding boots
Helmut Lang long black goth dress
Multiple cashmere sweaters…

I’ve gone 2022 with only one new-new purchase, but my charity purchases have been pretty damn good!

Ohmygoshposh · 20/12/2022 22:54

Would be good if people put prices too. Our local charity shops are so highly priced nowadays. So a cashmere jumper would be £25. Which is still cheap for cashmere, but not the same satisfaction as getting a cashmere sweater for say £4

Niftythrifter · 21/12/2022 07:28

@SingingSands 😂No. More affluent parts of an area that is considered economically disadvantaged.

Ok prices
Leather Jacket-£12 I think
Longchamp bag -£9.99
Longchamp travel bag £3.99
Maje cardigan- I think around £14.99

iI also got a Wyse London cashmere jumper for £5

I found some knee high Hobbs suede boots £20
Boden suede skirt £6.50
White company trousers £6
Jaeger t-shirt £4

Also a striped jumper from new look for £2.50 - not a premium label but I really love it!

I think the boots were the best buy, even though they were the most expensive.

CharityShopChic · 21/12/2022 08:14

My best buys this year:

100% merino wool Cos grey cardigan - £9.99
BNWT Tog 24 waterproof winter coat - £15

everydaysabeginning · 21/12/2022 08:49

The Kooples leather biker jacket for £20, RRP over £400! I couldn't believe my luck. I bloody love it!
Also me+em tracksuit/lounge bottoms £5, RRP over £100.
A vintage hyacinth vase for £2, google lensed it, worth about £40 but I'm keeping it.
Pair of beautiful Red or Dead Mary Jane style shoes, like brand new, £2.
Different shops and different charities but all in outer London.

bravelittletiger · 21/12/2022 08:53

Our charity shops have cottoned on to decent brands I think most things get googled before they are priced up. Means more often than not they are expensive for a charity shop.

Having said that I've still got some brilliant stuff in the last year or so. A Ganni skirt still with tags on was a particular favourite. I think that was £30 though. I've just bought a jaeger jacket for £20 although it does have a rip in the seam. Also got a jaeger denim jacket/military jacket thing. I've yet to wear that. My favourite purchase at the end of last year was a maxMara coat! It was about £80 though!!

CoxixSix · 21/12/2022 08:54

16 piece Portmeirion dinner set £25
Lighthouse rain coat £4

FourChimneys · 21/12/2022 08:56

An M&S jumper, from when their quality was better. I've worn it nearly every day since the weather got cold.

TheFlis12345 · 21/12/2022 08:58

A Liberty make up bag for £2, and the exact LSA wine decanter I had been eyeing in John Lewis for £8, RRP was £80 and it still had the labels on it.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 21/12/2022 08:59

I like these threads but sometimes feel like pics or it didn’t happen!!! Although no outrageous claims yet.
we used to go to Henley regularly for charity shops but now they are full of primark or new look for high prices. Marlow is another place that used to be good but they’ve caught on and anything good is already in locked cabinets that have very high prices on.

ShangPie · 21/12/2022 09:15

hahaha unicorn, I can assure you that my purchases definitely happened!

Prices for the doubters:

Aquascutum quilted jacket £9
Moncler down jacket £30
Jil Sander ankle boots £15
toast wool blazer £25
LK Bennett black riding boots £4.75
Helmut Lang long black goth dress £5
Multiple cashmere sweaters… think the cheapest was £6

Also forgot the £8 John Lewis stainless steel enormous fish kettle steamer thing that was BNWT. Helped with our NY resolution to eat more fish!

I’m in N Yorks, plenty of good spots around here.

IClaudine · 21/12/2022 09:42

Hobbes wool military style jacket £7.

dontgobaconmyheart · 21/12/2022 09:42

Mine are all books and homeware so I won't bore everyone. I
I've all but stopped buying clothes in charity shops. I declutter very regularly and noticed that most often the things I wasn't wearing and were getting rid of were almost always previous 'bargains' from the charity shop.

FANTINE2 · 21/12/2022 10:34

Aquascutum wool jacket £6
Pierre Balmain vintage leather court shoes£2.50
3 Brora jumpers £4/5 each!

Cheshire charity shops, but not overly affluent areas.

CharityShopChic · 21/12/2022 11:28

Advise joining the "charity shop not so shit finds" group on facebook. Loads of posts from people sharing their gems. (As opposed to the other FB group which is people sneering and smirking over "tat".)

Freddiefan · 21/12/2022 11:33

Unused (genuine) Radley purse £4
M&S bra (looks new) and is the same as one I bought 50p

Niftythrifter · 21/12/2022 13:29

Ooh the mention of Pierre Balmain has made me remember that I got two pairs of coloured and patterned P Balamine tights for 40p each.

New Ilse Jacobsen maxi dress with tags - £20
M&S linen trousers still with labels - £5
Laura Ashley jumpsuit with tags on -£15
Lord & Taylor cashmere jumper - £10
New John Lewis leather hobo style bag - £5

various other bits throughout the year costing between £2 and £10, but the above are my best buys.

All from various charity shops in and around Kent.

NeedWineNow · 21/12/2022 13:56

Pressed button too soon!

meant to add that I love getting a charity shop bargain. I'm after a plain grey jumper at the moment so that will be my next search!

FayCarew · 21/12/2022 14:06

Poetry cashmere cardigan £1.
APC shirt £1
Hobbs boots £2
Agnes b dress £2

I could go on but I'd probably miss Christmas. Henley CS have nice things but the prices are much higher.
The shops I go to are ones where you rummage through racks of primark, simply b, very, george and papaya to find something amazing.

mumonthehill · 21/12/2022 14:15

M and s cashmere and silk blend jumper £3
monsoon linen jacket £5
per Una ballet pumps £3
principles black jacket £4
the monsoon jacket in particular was fab and I wore it a lot over the summer.

I recently saw a bobbled cashmere jumper in the Isabel Hospice charity shop in Hatfield for £30. It was Jigsaw, but it had such obvious signs of wear and tear and it was a pretty horrible green. I'm not sure who pays these prices.
