A nice coat that will last years

I'm looking for a nice winter coat that will hopefully be something that lasts years and years. My criteria is:

Warm
Waterproof
Has a hood
Covers my bum
Smart enough that it doesn't look like I'm going fell walking

I've got some Seasalt coats on my Vinted favorites lists, they look to tick the boxes although not the height of style. Any other brands people would recommend?

Sorry Budget around £100 but that includes second hand.

Diedrikson - if you can find second hand. Far better fit than seasalt etc and genuine waterproof and super toasty.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 20/12/2022 17:10

Thank you I have not heard of them before.

I second Didriksons

Chasingsquirrels · 20/12/2022 18:12

I love my Craghoppers one.

In terms of lasting, mine is 8 years old and has come apart around the pockets which I'd sewn up. I recently decided to get a new one and was looking on their website and saw the lifetime guarantee. I just happened to have out the receipt in the guarantee card and stuck it on the notice board, so I registered it, emailed them - and they are now replacing it!

This Barbour is in the sale I'm quite tempted as I have seen it in real life and it is lovely

BHRK · 20/12/2022 18:36

North Face. Waterproof, pretty stylish and last years (8+ years here!)

I have this but I purchased at over £100 cheaper on a UK website (I think GB outdoors). It’s really lovely, warm, waterproof and smart

I love that but I've never heard of Griggs is it legit?

I've ordered a different Barbour from them previously - no problems at all

This is lovely £130

LivingDeadGirlUK · 22/12/2022 21:40

I tried the Barbour one on in Bentalls yesterday and its lovely but wasn't on sale there. Think I will be spending my xmas money on that one.

Seasalt are actually really nice and definitely tick all the boxes in your list. I have four a few different seasalt ones as I Iike them so much!

GenialHarryGr0ut · 25/12/2022 16:04

It's here as well - a bit more expensive tho.

What size are you looking for?

Bought a Didriksons coat from Go Outdoors. If you've never bought from them before, be sure to pay for membership to get the cheaper prices. And then look out for sales & member offers to save even more.

Lentilweaver · 25/12/2022 17:27

Confused by the many Didriksons. Which is the warmest/ waterproof but also not Michelin man?

FrownedUpon · 25/12/2022 17:29

Not Seasalt. They’re so frumpy, I can spot one a mile off. That Barbour one is lovely.

Another vote for Didriksons, got one last winter and it's the best coat I've ever owned. Fully water/wind proof and warm.

catfunk · 25/12/2022 20:26

Have a browse on John Lewis op they usually have a great selection

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/12/2022 20:29

Seasalt plant hunter

Hayliebells · 25/12/2022 20:37

I LOVE my Didrikson's coats, I have two. I wouldn't by another waterproof, they're just outstanding quality. My warmer/smarter one is probably what you're after. It's not too utilitarian, but most definitely waterproof and very warm. It's this one: www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/p/didriksons-womens-emilia-parka-3-A4414546.html
