What is a winklepicker?

Too many questions! 😆
Google winklepicker goth and you’ll get your answer. I’m too lazy!

I would wear those but she would not.

Because I don't want her dressing like a hooker because she will be judged as such!

I don't even know where to start. Absolutely vile. I pity her.

So if that's her style - why spend £££ on a dress that you know isn't her taste? It'll just sit in her closet unworn

Iknowhim · 10/12/2022 13:10

@Notaninterestingfact you're vile. I hope whoever it is ignores your judgmental bullshit and wears what they want.

Yikes!

I get it, it's like the 'love island' style, but i still think the options on your long list are all pretty awful even if they are designer. Also you're speaking really harshly about this girl. You don't have to like her taste in style but your comments about her really are quite mean.

Would you like your dd wearing that to a nightclub?

I like as it's short short but covers up the chest.

The lady in question appears to be lured by Shein dresses with tits, ass and legs out. I'm trying to find something to her taste but which might also be somewhat more dignified. 🙄

OMG. Presumably this is someone you actually care for? Get what you like, she won't wear it.

She is my DAUGHTER and I love her. She usually tries on about 10 items before a night out and I have to give my very nice and subtle opinion!

Right! Trying to bite my tongue.

@Notaninterestingfact you might disagree with her style but forcing what you think she should wear might very well backfire on you.

Maybe be less judgemental of her.

I think she could carry them off. The models are very tall. I've sent her the list and asked her whether she would wear any of them. When she deigns to reply, I'll let you know.

I'm not being mean. I absolutely adore her. She's a really good kid. I just feel like she's trying to dress like she is on Love Island while she's in freezing cold England!

If she wants the same value to spend on Shein products that is cool with me too.

No, they’re all quite frumpy. Why are you only looking at really expensive designer stuff? Other high street options are available. But I think you should just let her wear what she wants even if you don’t like it. Isn’t that a rite of passage as a teenager to wear stuff your parents hate?

Notaninterestingfact · 10/12/2022 13:21

I never ever criticise her. She wears what she wants and what she likes. I do try to steer her away from unflattering outfits but never openly criticise anything.

Not particularly, as I think it's quite ugly. But I also get that's the current trend and if she's 18, she can wear what she likes.

You've described her style as trashy and undignified and dressing like a hooker.

That's not love.

Notaninterestingfact · 10/12/2022 13:23

I think No. 2 would be to her taste and it also seems to be the one that if you guys had a gun to your heads you would pick. It unfortunately happens to be most expensive of them!

What she wears would be fine in Ibiza.

I never criticise her choices. I have always encouraged her own taste.
I'm just trying to find a nice gift which might match her taste.

For gods sake what’s wrong with you. How many times are you going to liken her to looking like a hooker. No one will judge her like that apart from you clearly

get a grip on yourself yout words are shameful

Not commenting any further as this has been quite a nasty thread. It's not like I'm dragging her along to M&S to buy granny knickers. My goodness.
You accuse me of being nasty while insulting me.

French connection had some possibly more of a compromise options but I really think maybe a voucher might be a better compromise 🤣

PestorPeston · 10/12/2022 13:29

If you try and police what they wear to a nightclub, it is easy to end up with a situation where they leave the house in one outfit and arrive at the club in another.

If you are going to a more formal do where some twat will hold her 18yo fashion disaster against her for life then you need the "granddad acceptable" dress.
I used to march the girls via Zara, Mango and All Saints. Generally something all round acceptable was found.

In a few years you will be able to buy her dresses you both like, right now you might have to settle on a compromise dress and accept that she may only wear it once or twice. I'd throw a bit of time and effort into going shopping together rather than just trying to throw money at it. In ten years time she will remember the coffee you drank on the freezing cold bench, not the dress.
