What trainers are 'in' at the moment? Need nice but comfortable trainers for city break

I've been living in my Vejas for most of the year, but unfotunately they have been really hurting my feet so I need to find a replacement for them. I want something simple, comfortable and 'smart' enough for a city break/wearing to the office (we're a casual office).

Does anyone have any recommendations? My style is quite classic (read: boring lol), and I'm in my 20s.

I have just spent 5 days in London, walking around 10k a day. My Stan Smiths were perfectly comfortable, didn't notice I was wearing them.

I've worn Stans for about 25 years, but now have to stop as Matt Hancock wears them 😭😭😭😭

What colour do you have and what do you wear them with?

I'm very tempted, especially since the pair I posted are on sale (and family members are asking what I want for Christmas...).

I wear them with everything! Jeans, coated leggings, dresses. Last week with a sparkly skirt when my boots started hurting!
I can walk for miles. And I struggle with blisters usually. Not any more!

I would never wear all black trainers, because I am neither a physiotherapist or in year 8.

Made me smile. Yes, I think my DS's friends have put me off black trainers for life!

And the local scallies who have their joggers tucked into their socks (so they can cycle fast when theyve nicked something) and black trainers. I'm not hard enough to pull that off 🤣

I laughed reading these posts and remembering how I passed my black leather trainers on to my sister (who is in the medical profession!).

That said a couple of years ago, I had Nike black trainers and found I reached for them a lot during the winter months. They suited my wardrobe but I disliked looking down at my feet while wearing them. Didn't have them long as they didn't get on well in the washing machine. They looked particularly bad with blue jeans.

ReallyDarling · 06/12/2022 12:58

My super stylish friend wears black trainers and looks incredible in them. And they never look dirty or yellow like mine! So perhaps depends if you can pull them off.

DashboardConfessional · 06/12/2022 13:14

I had Nike Tanjuns about 5 years ago - black with white swoosh was definitely having a moment! They're still in the wardrobe somewhere but they look really odd unless with black leggings.

I wear New Balance and have 327 in white with pale pink N on the side. I also have pale grey and turquoise 720 classic 70's style which I love!

This is not a thread for super stylish people.

They are the ones I had too!
Agree they only went with black. They looked odd with blue jeans or trousers of any colour. Nice with leggings though I don’t have the legs for leggings.

Pickawindow · 06/12/2022 14:48

If you'll be walking the best trainers are Hoka's. My dd got me a pair for Christmas and now I have 3 pairs and virtually live in them. Super comfortable and have won awards.

What's KL?

My PS ones were a sale find at about £100. I thought that was ridiculously expensive at the time, but they're lasting well, probably because I tend to just wear them for nights out etc, rather than full days.

Karl Lagerfeld.

askagainlater · 06/12/2022 17:59

Adidas sambas look amazing with dresses and skirts. But for walking I'd wear Nike air of some sort

11GrumpsaGrumping · 06/12/2022 22:27

Look into HOFF. It's a Spanish brand. Mine feel like a cloud of marshmallow.

Rockandgrohl · 06/12/2022 22:33

I'm loving my addidas superstars atm...channelling myself circa 1999 😁
AF1s are the comfiest trainers in the world though!

Calphurnia88 · 07/12/2022 08:01

Some mixed opinions on black trainers... Does this apply to black suede?

I live in my black and white Gazelles but happy to be roasted 🤣

CheesenCrackersmm · 07/12/2022 10:03

What does it matter what is "in". Google classic trainers and start browsing.

I prefer wearing trainers that few other people have.

You could do that... Or you could post a thread on a very popular, female-centric website asking like-minded people to share what they are wearing 🙃

As someone who wears trainers a lot I have found this thread really useful, and it's probably one of the most pleasant I have participated in on Mumsnet.

Because some people enjoy/are interested in fashion and trends. Nothing wrong with that.

Black and white trainers are not black trainers.

Ohmygoshposh · 07/12/2022 11:28

I have some lovely black Paul Green high tops and some old black Ash high tops and I don’t think either look cheap or make me look like a schoolboy!

Janieread · 07/12/2022 11:31

High tops are a bit different.

Agree. Black converse aren’t black trainers either.

Calphurnia88 · 07/12/2022 11:48

They're black with white stripes, to clarify.

But phew! They're my most worn pair but I do have a history of making poor sartorial choices every now and then.
