What trainers are 'in' at the moment? Need nice but comfortable trainers for city break

I've been living in my Vejas for most of the year, but unfotunately they have been really hurting my feet so I need to find a replacement for them. I want something simple, comfortable and 'smart' enough for a city break/wearing to the office (we're a casual office).

Does anyone have any recommendations? My style is quite classic (read: boring lol), and I'm in my 20s.

I have a couple of pairs of Hoff which are super comfy and I think look good, lots of nice colour-ways to choose from and like posters above have said no massive branding.

I like the fact that although I do see people wearing them occasionally they are not everywhere like Vejas, which are definitely the middle-class mum shoe of choice around here!

My most comfortable trainers are my Hogan - literally like walking on clouds.

I have On running trainers but for me they are for running / hiking rather than around town

Calphurnia88 · 04/12/2022 21:23

I read on WhoWhatWear recently that Adidas Sambas are the latest 'in' trainer as seen on popular young celebs (Emrata, Hailey Beiber, etc...).

I personally find them a little bulky so would go Gazelle or Campus for a similar but more refined look.

I also share the love for New Balance 327s but bought them in a pale beige and now I'm too scared to wear them out!

I personally don't give a monkeys whether Skechers are in or out- I have multiple attractive pairs- all supremely comfortable

You might not, but OP asked for "in" trainers.

Itaintwhatyoudoitsthewaythatyoudoit · 04/12/2022 21:45

I wear Vejas and NB. But I've become massively self conscious wearing NB. I feel very frumpy in them (327s) .I'm mid 40s and feel like they are shoes to suit my age which makes me feel worse. They are so sensible looking.

My favourites are Nike International but they have a very slippy sole so are pretty much useless when the ground is wet.

I like Gazelles a lot and my feel (size 6) look smaller in them but recently threw away my pair as they were too shabby looking.

Following this thread with interest.

My ‘posh’ trainers are Paul Smith but they’re not comfortable enough for a whole day of pavement pounding.

Stan Smiths are supremely comfortable after a few days but I’ve binned mine now and won’t replace them as they feel a bit naff now. Matt Hancock wears them!

llareggub · 05/12/2022 07:09

I’ve just bought a pair of Hoff trainers, but I can’t decide whether they are as comfortable as my AF1s. I need to wear them in I think! I bought a pair of Victoria trainers in the summer which were OK but not great for long walks.

Betahydroxybutyrate · 05/12/2022 07:17

I’ve got 2 pairs of On despite not being a runner. They’re incredibly comfortable but size up as they run (no pun intended) small.

One is the black Cloud5 waterproof and the other is the Cloudmonster which is perfect for very long walks.

It took me months to get my black & leopard ones! They’re constantly out of stock, as are the cream with leopard. I struck gold when I was up in the early hours one night with a poorly child; got them back to sleep, went on my phone as was wide awake and they had my size in stock.
Keep trying!

I've seen the black & leopard in stock in a few places like Schuh, Office and Asos, but only in limited sizes. I'm a 7 and nowhere seems to have them in my size.

Have you ever tried balance 327

NeedToKnow101 · 05/12/2022 08:03

I love Nike trail running trainers. Not particularly cool but sooooo comfortable

NeedToKnow101 · 05/12/2022 08:04

I've got those cool New Balance ones too. They look fabulous but I prefer my Nikes for walking around.

EatingTrifles · 05/12/2022 08:21

Baaaaaa

I have been wearing Converse Run Star Hike. They look like flatform Converse high tops, but have inner soles like hiking boots. (I have a genetic soft tissue disorder so can’t wear “fashion” shoes.) I am constantly complemented on these. There are so many colours and styles available. Actually planning on buying some more. You can also buy low top ones, which look like Chucks.
Below are some examples. There are heaps more. When you look up Run Star Hike there is another kind that looks like something straight out of Space Jam. Hideous. Not keen on those.

Around where I live in London, Vejas are now mainly worn by yummy mummies, not youngsters in the 20s. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Axel Arigato's, I see them everywhere.

Topolectic · 05/12/2022 10:12

I bought a pair of Hoff's recently too. They look great - but have not spent a whole day in them yet.

ContemplatingPollocks · 05/12/2022 10:15

Maison Margielas are my go to. Low key 70s vibe

Littlepiggiesinblankets · 05/12/2022 10:33

I agree with Hoffs and On Running. I have used New Balance for running for years, but the 327s are everywhere now.

Yes to Axel Arigotos!

Although definitely on the more expensive end.

I’m stopped in the street about mine. Black with Dalmatian.

Covetthee · 05/12/2022 10:42

New balance 550’s are very comfortable and stylish, can dress it down but also looks good with jeans/trousers etc.

also Converse HT seem to be very fashionable again, i mean they never really go out of fashion but sometimes it the ‘in’ shoe

Converse ht look cute but they are not good for long periods of time, the foot is not supported at all.

Reservoirbogs · 05/12/2022 10:55

The leather airforce 1's. I have a tan leather pair and a black leather pair. They don't look sporty, go with everything and are just so comfy.

SequinShagger · 05/12/2022 10:56

hoff are stocked at Oliver bonas so you know…

for me it’s ones that suit your foot.
I sold my vejas because they looked a bit flappy clown foot, and for the same reason, don’t like converse
my sons girlfriends all wear those kind of dad running Clompy ones

Ohmygoshposh · 05/12/2022 11:45

@ContemplatingPollocks yes I also have Maison Margiela too - absolutely love them super comfy and a bit different from the crowd without being bonkers (the style I have at least!) . Very expensive though and I only own a pair thanks to Vinted!
