I used the John Lewis personal stylist service at the weekend and they picked out the Mint Velvet Dakota jeans for me. I really like them so bought them on the day. But when I got home I thought they were maybe too long (I’m 5’3 and bought the regular leg) so ended up ordering them in a short length in blue and black.

I now don’t know if they’re too short. Should they be turned up or are they okay not turned up?

The blue are regular length and the black are the short ones. Now kicking myself that I returned the regular length ones yesterday 🙄

Side view of the short version. I don’t have a side view of the regular length.

Regular is the right length. I am tall and sometimes regular is short for me.

StarlightLady · 01/12/2022 09:33

I don't think there is a "correct length" for jeans anymore, it's about what is comfortable for you and what shoes you intend to wear with them.

Hoppinggreen · 01/12/2022 09:34

I think Regular looked better, sorry

GreenManalishi · 01/12/2022 09:35

Short! Definitely

hellswelshy · 01/12/2022 09:37

Short legged person here! I prefer the short personally but like previous poster said, depends on what footwear you will mainly be wearing them with? Maybe try on with a few of your most worn shoes/trainers & that may decide it.

AuntyPeanut · 01/12/2022 09:38

I like the black on you best
The blue is not sitting right.
It's not about your height, the regular or short trousers thing is about your inner leg in seam. Take a fabric measure and measure yourself from crotch to ankle or wherever you want it to sit. Also, you need to try the jeans with socks and shoes/boots to get an accurate idea of how it looks.

Dacadactyl · 01/12/2022 09:39

The black look best but are far too short. I'd go dor black in regular.

I wouldnt turn the regular leg up either. I'd either wear them with boots or if I intended to wear them with trainers I'd get the leg adjusted.

eurochick · 01/12/2022 09:42

Regular length looks better.

CatsEatDogs · 01/12/2022 09:46

Depends what you’re wearing them with and whether wanted full length or an ankle
crop really

Plump82 · 01/12/2022 10:19

Definitely the short ones. However I think you can get away with the regular turned up like you've done. Don't wear them unturned.

Plump82 · 01/12/2022 10:20

Maybe a 2nd turn up though

DeFacto · 01/12/2022 10:21

I like the black, I don't like the blue.

The length of the black is good.

Andrelax3 · 01/12/2022 10:28

Thanks everyone. Bit of a mix! I planned to wear them with trainers and boots. I’ll try them on with shoes and see how I feel. It almost seems like I need a length between the 2.

Does anyone know if Mint Velvet regularly do discounts? I’ve never ordered from there before and got 20% off with it being Black Friday.

Black look best out of the two, and shorter is fine for boots and trainers, they only need extra length if you wear heels with them IMHO.

Foofedifiknow · 01/12/2022 10:41

Black and short look great

FunnyTalks · 01/12/2022 10:48

Definitely black and definitely short because the denim just hangs better. They look great! In blue and longer they look fine but underwhelming.

chatw0o0 · 01/12/2022 11:08

I like the black ones. Always prefer to have a bit of ankle showing personally, as I always mostly wear trainers or similar and like to have a bit of a gap.

Afterfire · 01/12/2022 11:15

If you’re going to wear boots the black is better. It’s quite fashionable to have the ankle of the boot showing at the moment.

If you’re wearing trainers the other ones are better.

I think you need both! <unhelpful> 😆

ItsRainingTacos79 · 01/12/2022 11:45

Short looks more up to date.

SocksAndTheCity · 01/12/2022 12:32

I think they're too short, but then I'm of an age that means believing any trousers should be long enough to rest on the top of your shoe.

Plus I like to turn mine up without looking as if I'm going for a paddle 😀

Stevie6 · 01/12/2022 12:39

Longer length but wouldn't turn them, won't be needed once you have boots on. Short ones look too short

LadyOfTheCanyon · 01/12/2022 12:46

The blue needs a second turn but then they'll be too short with too much fabric in the hem. As they are you just look like you've bought jeans that don't fit and are making the best of it.

The black sit much better on you and will be fine with boots.

This was exactly how I felt when I tried turning them up a second time 😂

I think the black looks much better if you are going to wear them with trainers / flat shoes. Could you buy another pair for wearing with heeled boots? The sales will be on in a few weeks, get another pair then.
