I used the John Lewis personal stylist service at the weekend and they picked out the Mint Velvet Dakota jeans for me. I really like them so bought them on the day. But when I got home I thought they were maybe too long (I’m 5’3 and bought the regular leg) so ended up ordering them in a short length in blue and black.

I now don’t know if they’re too short. Should they be turned up or are they okay not turned up?

The blue are regular length and the black are the short ones. Now kicking myself that I returned the regular length ones yesterday 🙄

Opinions on these jeans please

Do the first turn up smaller on the blue then you can do a second turn up so they're basically 1.5 of the original turn up

HundredMilesAnHour · 01/12/2022 13:50

Regular is the right length for you (but stop turning them up as it doesn't work with that length, and just makes your legs look shorter). I much prefer the blue to the black. That shade of black looks washed out.

macklin123 · 01/12/2022 14:01

I really like both on you and if you could afford it you should get the blue ones back and keep them all! The turn up should be smaller and done twice to avoid a dexys midnight runners vibe though. Out of interest, how did you find the John Lewis service? I've always quite fancied it. Is there a minimum spend?

They are OK. Have you tried Diesel jeans? I do like mint velvet jeans but in general I think jeans made by an actual jeans company tend to be better.

Andrelax3 · 01/12/2022 16:12

@macklin123 it was okay. I’ve really struggled to find any clothes that I like/suit me recently and it definitely helped having someone else pick things and get me out of my comfort zone. But it maybe wasn’t as good as I was hoping for. However, it is free and there’s no minimum spend required so worth a go! Im sure the experience will depend on the stylist.

Yes, shorter is more current.

Andrelax3 · 01/12/2022 16:14

@Jjones8 i haven’t tried Diesel (not sure if anywhere stocks them locally) but I was debating Levi’s.

Definitely the shorter ones. I think they look really good. I’d do a tiny turn up on them too.
You look like two different people in the photos, just with the way you’ve tucked in your top with the black jeans. Your legs look way longer.

You may need to order diesel online. How about trying a good pair of diesel bootcut jeans with a pair of boots underneath. Boot cuts can be quite flattering and lengthens the leg.

AuntyPeanut · 01/12/2022 16:34

You look current in the black ones, the blue jeans look Peruna 2006

TheOGCCL · 02/12/2022 22:41

It's not a fair comparison as you have your top tucked in with the black but not with blue. This makes the black look more modern and flattering and the blue look slightly big overall.

But there isn't a right answer to this question as it depends on your personal taste and the rest of the outfit. I like wearing trousers that are slightly cropped in order to show off my ankles so prefer the black but I know why people would say they look like they've shrunk. Both very long and cropped are in at the moment.

softpilllow · 02/12/2022 22:52

Either or length for me, but, the black ones look baggy at the knee. Could just be the angle though.

Definitely black and definitely short because the denim just hangs better. They look great! In blue and longer they look fine but underwhelming.

Totally agree!

Levi do a shaping slim which might suit you.

JulesGeebee · 03/12/2022 11:51

Another vote for the short. Much more stylish IMO. And great in the black

It wasn’t supposed to be a question of blue or black it was a question of length.
