Can anyone suggest a cardigan to go with this dress?

I was thinking of a soft fine knit one in maybe grey, silver or beige, perhaps with some sequins or sparkle?

I don't think a cardigan is right for the dress.

What's the context?

DeFacto · 30/11/2022 16:26

If I was wearing that dress I'd probably shoulder-robe a black tux jacket.

MummyDummyNow · 30/11/2022 16:27

Great dress, a cardigan, any kind of cardigan would not go at all. Where are you wearing it? Could look cool with a leather jacket, but if more formal occasion think you're going to have to be cold!

MummyDummyNow · 30/11/2022 16:28

Or a tux jacket like PP said!

midsomermurderess · 30/11/2022 16:36

I don't see the point of wearing a dress like that with a cardigan. If you need something for travelling, perhaps, but a structured jacket would look much, much better.

indecisivewoman81 · 30/11/2022 16:41

Faux fur jacket?

minipie · 30/11/2022 16:43

I agree a cardigan would spoil it rather, sorry.

If it’s for warmth I’d try high waisted sheer tights and ankle boots

TooHotToRamble · 30/11/2022 16:44

Some people are really anti cardigan. I love a cardigan and wear one with pretty much anything. I'd probably try something cropped so it didn't hang awkwardly on the skirt and agree with what you say on a fine knit, silky type fabric/with a sparkle if poss. Black with a sparkle or silver would be nice. Not sure about grey or beige. Don't think that would work. A normal knitted cardi wouldn't be the right fabric.

Agree with pp that a biker jacket would also look really good.

Not a tux jacket, any other sort of fabric jacket or bolero though 🤮 Gross imho!

pocketvenuss · 30/11/2022 16:48

A cardigan would throw that dress straight into older woman wearing a young dress but not having a clue how to wear it.

ShadowKitty · 30/11/2022 16:51

I'd put a leather or denim jacket with that but depends how formal the event is I suppose.

midsomermurderess · 30/11/2022 16:56

It’s not a matter of being ‘anti-cardigan’, if there even is such a thing, and if there is, it’s only in corners of this site. It’s simply that a cardigan would kill that dress. Stone dead.

Correct.

Flyinggeesei234 · 30/11/2022 17:07

@WhenIgrowup42 what’s the event? Love the tux shoulder robe idea above.

I know you said cardigan (and I usually am a stickler for answering the OP literally) but it will take that gorgeous dress from simple class to the banned ‘f’ word on S&B.

DeFacto · 30/11/2022 17:17

I'm not 'anti-cardigan' @TooHotToRamble.

I'm just anti-cardigan with this dress!

vikjul · 30/11/2022 17:19

This? I just bought the black to go with a black dress, quite simple and a bit sparkly, also exists in gold and silver.

Firen · 30/11/2022 17:23

Where’s the dress from? I want one!!

DeFacto · 30/11/2022 17:45

Definitely not the bolero!

What is the event @WhenIgrowup42?

TooHotToRamble · 30/11/2022 17:51

I love the way people are aghast at a cardigan while saying they are not anti cardigan lol. I think the right cardi would look lovely. I think a tux jacket would look v old woman imo. And we are all entitled to our opinions! Especially about clothing which is massively subjective.

I'd probably wear it with chunky boots and a cardi or biker jackets as previously mentioned. Not old woman at all! Lol!

I’m not anti-cardigan (in fact have one on right now). But absolutely 100% not with that dress. It would be a travesty! OK maybe a bit dramatic, but… just no.

LookItsMeAgain · 30/11/2022 18:03

Would any of these work for you?

But a tux jacket or oversized blazer would be in fashion. A cardigan or leather jacket would be circa 2012

pocketvenuss · 30/11/2022 18:09

I know MN loves a biker jacket but they reek of slightly dated Mint velvet or Boden. The only people who look cool in them now are actual rock chic types. The sort who would always wear them. Middle aged women wearing bikers or denim jackets with a floral dress and boots are just dated.

Flyinggeesei234 · 30/11/2022 18:12

The MN biker jacket thing is odd IMO. Especially as they’re not really indoor evening wear. Aside from the fact they’re so dated.

Perhaps not, but such a tired old cliche, so beloved of a certain demographic on this site.
