Does a nightdress exist...

...that:

  • is not frumpy (no twee sprigs of flowers, high neckline)
  • is not silky with itchy lace
  • does not have stupid slogans on it!
If so, I haven't found it yet! Would love one with short sleeves/no sleeves but stlish and comfy. Any recommendations?

I have a couple of these from Bravissimo, they are so comfy and still look gorgeous

Thanks everyone. I'm checking them all out. I love this but Bravissimo is too big on the bust for me! @isthismylifenow I'm actually in the EU - where are you? Do you have a link to the one you like?

Oysho have a few that fit your description. This for example www.oysho.com/m/es/dormir/camisones-i-camisolas/camis%C3%B3n-midi-tirantes-bordado-hind%C3%BA-c1010166020p114224241.html

I'm in SA so maybe you have more options than the UK site have. And there is such a good sale on right now.

here

This is what I got, but in black, but I can't find it to link. It holds the boobs in place, and I'm not overly endowed but I hate it when they let loose with the shoe string type top. It's not lace, it's just a lace look at the top.

Moanycowbag · 29/11/2022 14:46

I brought some long sleeveless 100% cotton jersey dresses back in the summer, I hate all the light coloured wafty nylon stuff with twee slogans about dreams, sleep or relax on the front, plain good quality, reasonably priced sleepwear is a rare thing on. the high street.

WrinklesShminkles · 29/11/2022 14:51

What's your budget? These are nice, they come in a long sleeeved version too:

@isthismylifenow That would be perfect but sadly not on the EU site either. 😢

Ah man, that is such a pity.

To see the variation of stock from the same company across different counties has been quite interesting today.

I do get you though. It's a struggle to find just the right night dress. I really just stumbled across this one quite by accident as I was passing one of their stores.

Here we find so much more in the stores than online. H&M had some options, but they aren't online here so I can't link. If you have one nearby it might be worth a visit.

hugoagogo · 29/11/2022 16:19

maybe?

TitInATrance · 29/11/2022 16:30

Cheap and cheerful - just got one for this weekend

habibihabibi · 29/11/2022 16:56

I got a couple of white linen nightshirts in H&M home recently and
also plain white cotton Pjs from Powell Craft .
But my default in having some made from pure cotton at a local tailor.

Another good call but not in my size!

I know OP doesn't think they are elegant enough but for anyone else looking for comfy nightwear, another vote for LandsEnd. I love their supima nightdresses, so cosy. Just don't ever buy anything from LE full price as they have such regular sales/special offersI think their list prices are possibly inflated for that reason.

AriettyHomily · 29/11/2022 18:24

Giant t shirt not elegant but comfy as.

Justcuriouser · 29/11/2022 19:09

Bonsoir is amazing. Expensive but v good quality and last for years!

Hanro swiss cotton. Soft as silk, last forever.

This is the answer! I have hanro nightdresses that are 10-15 years old. Check details and make sure you chose mercerised cotton for extra softness.

FelicityFlops · 29/11/2022 22:45

Hanro, Calida and Schiesser fit the bill.

Gosh yes, mine are really old! I think the sizes have changed as my favourite BigShirt is marked xs and measures 25" pit to pit. I believe that would now be s. Lovely cotton, even though it's a shell pink it gets chucked in a 90 wash with white bedding and comes out like new.

Hanro used to make beautiful cotton footless tights, so soft and flattering. All I can find now is wool or silk. I've got the silk and they're a bit Nora Batty on the leg!

Talipesmum · 30/11/2022 10:28

Debenhams is where I would always get my similar nighties. Completely agree with your analysis OP - it’s so often either “foxy lace and polyester” or “giant Disney cute tshirt”. Interested to see Debenhams still have stuff available - might get some of that! I relied a lot on them for pjs as well. Loved the J jasper conran ones.

Definitely White Company. I love the soft jersey with thin straps usually I buy black. So comfy and I don't think I look like my mother in them.

I got two of these in long as I wanted a mid calf length. They are slightly transparent but 100% cotton.

NotquitewhatImeant · 01/12/2022 18:21

watching with interest. I love that Simone perele one @Swissnotswiss

Sunshineandrainbow · 01/12/2022 18:31

Following as I love a nightie.
