Royal Jewels ~ Queen Camilla, The Queen Consort's Van Cleef & Arpels Bouton d’or Ballerina Brooch
Van Cleef & Arpels began making ballerina inspired brooches circa 1941. The firm’s designer, Maurice Duvalet, created the beautiful pieces working in concert with manufacturer John Rubel and renowned choreographer George Balanchine. Van Cleef & Arpels ballerinas had a steady run in the jeweler’s collection from the forties through the late 1960s. There have been some new designs added to the ballerina / dancer collections within the past 2 decades, this one being among those.
This particular brooch is described as a Bouton d'or ballerina clip crafted from 18K yellow gold. The piece contains 8 lapis lazuli stones, 7 turquoise gems and a total of 44 round diamonds weighing 1.1 carats in total. The back of the brooch has the creator's mark. The piece is approximately 7.5 cm x 4.5 cm and retails for approximately £68,100 or $81,000 US.
This brooch made its royal debut in November 2022 when it was worn by HM Queen Camilla, The Queen Consort to present Mikhail Baryshnikov with The Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Award, the Royal Academy of Dance' highest honor.
The Queen Consort also owns a 1950's Van Cleef & Arpels Ballerina brooch which we've already covered and can be found in the link provided below.
