Dinner in Paris (work dinner)

Livingonjuice · 10/11/2022 22:48

It's a sponsored dinner after an exhibition
I don't want to go but have to
I hate my clothes and and not stylish
Please dress me for dinner ! I'll be in a group so want to blend in but not be the token badly dressed English person. Easy for men. Shirts and bloody chinos.
During day will be trousers and branded shirt most likely. I'd like a dress if we can find one suitable or if separates recommendations then also fine
Thank you!

What is your budget? How tall are you? Shape? What do you like? Colour?

StarlightLady · 11/11/2022 06:01

I think we need a little more info on the type of restaurant as well as the type of dinner.

Some high end Paris eateries, even the high end ones, can be quite informal, others the very opposite.

StartupRepair · 11/11/2022 06:09

That burgundy dress is lovely.

Catslovepies · 11/11/2022 06:09

I think the Next dress pinkcadillac posted looks perfect, and luckily it's nit very expensive, either.

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 11/11/2022 06:20

If you don't want to stand out stick with black. All my french colleagues wear loads of black.

Livingonjuice · 11/11/2022 10:58

Restaurant unknown as yet which doesn't help. I'm 5'2". Round of stomach but not apple shape as also got waistband hips but boobs not big enough to be hourglass in any way !
I've got pale red hair and cool skin tone. I'll look at these links now. Thank you 🙏
I like the idea of black but worry that id have to spend a lot to get "nice" black

I like the lipsy black dress
The burgundy would be out of my comfort zone and the sort of thing I'd wear for a Christmas party. I'm more low key if that helps?

Legs decent but there's not enough tip tape in the world to get my not even that big norks to sit in that frock. Shame as it's lovely! Gorgeous colour and love velvet too

Heels, black cigarette trousers, silky vest too, nice blazer/ jacket. All classics and all something you can wear again. Google women’s tuxedo suits, single breasted is better if you have big boobs. Trouser cut will depend on your proportions but cigarette style is quite forgiving. Add a sparkly clutch, and minimal classic earrings. No necklace, but bracelets would add something when jacket is removed.

Livingonjuice · 11/11/2022 12:01

I've not got any of those right now after weight gain and wardrobe purge and unless Vinted can come up trumps won't have the ££££ for three new items. Got heels and bag and various shoes (they always fit right?!)
I'll scoot about for trousers and blouses and see what occurs. Men have it easy ...

They have a couple of nice velvet ones, which surprised me.

Pic below of me in my usual day dress for shape/ size. I love this frock. Very basic but comfy

Something from the The Fold would suit, Parisians are traditional and conservative in their dress, and the women are just as tailored as the men. Unless you are a trendy young 'boho' in the Marais or Montmartre.
It will also be colder than here.

ThankYouDebbie · 11/11/2022 13:34

I was going to suggest The Fold too. You get good quality second-hand sold on eBay.

Tillsforthrills · 11/11/2022 13:40

Black shift dress with sleeves, sheer black tights and mid/kitten heels or ankle boots. Colourful neck tie scarf. Very nice handbag!

Livingonjuice · 11/11/2022 14:38

That s a lovely frock but a bit out of budget sadly as it looks like it would be such good quality. I'll check on eBay though.

I would go for a black shirt dress

You could belt this one from H&M or leave loose, crepe so should travel ok?
Wear with whatever shoes you feel comfortable in

Livingonjuice · 16/11/2022 18:59

How does this look? Ordered a few black dresses and only really like this and another shorter one. Excuse bedroom mess

There was a shirt dress in there but annoyingly was very fussy and flouncy which I hadn't seen online but I do like idea of a shirt dress too
