I know I'm not as much of a regular as I used to be (and would like to be if life didn't get in the way!) but thought I'd start the new thread as I know @EllaPaella often ends up needing to do it so thought she might want a break, and I had a spare 5 mins and would hate to lose you all!

Will tag everyone I can remember below, apologies if I miss anyone!

No pics from me I'm still cleaning (or trying to) when will it end🙈

Purplecatshopaholic · 03/01/2023 11:36

Oops, bought some boots in the sale. My low-buy for 2023 was knocked out of the park two days in! No pic yet today - might get dressed later, might not, lol.
I gather I and some others have been getting a slagging on some website or other that looks at this thread and just says bitchy things. Seriously? Here’s to all us on this thread who are supportive and nice, and the rest can just err, Go Away…lol.

EnoBaby · 03/01/2023 13:48

Good to see everyone's still posting.

You look exquisite @toucaninjapan!

Same Emily & Fin cords and Converse today with old Warehouse sweater and new scarf that was a lovely and very thoughtful gift from some colleagues.

Finally got dressed as the PurplecatDogs wanted a wee stroll. Black knit dress is from Forgotten Tribes and very similar to one I have in grey. So easy to wear. All Saints slip under it - natch! DMs are getting an outing - god, they’re killing me but I must suffer for my art, lol.

@Sooverthemill That's a good idea - thinking of 5 outfits you can make with any new purchase. I might try the same...

Good luck with the leather trousers quest. You do look lovely in the Me + Em leather skirt.

Sickoffamilydrama · 03/01/2023 20:19

It's been miserable and wet here all day so wearing bright colours to counteract the grey!

@Cardigansalltheway are those leather trousers you're wearing? I really love that look on you. Is your office more on the casual side?
I've been seeing leather/vegan leather trousers being recommended a lot as a wardrobe staple. I ended up purchasing leather leggings from Boden sale (didn't receive them yet), I thought they will be nice for work travel, but then I realized I've never ever seen anyone here wear anything like this (and never seen any Japanese stylist recommend them). And we regularly go strolling through the places where fashionistas are (supposedly) hanging out! 😥 I'm kind of feeling worried whether they would look too provocative (?) even for casual settings, nevermind the workplace.

I went into the office today, and to my surprise have received so many compliments on my cardigan! Nobody usually says anything (and nobody looks pleased if I compliment their outfit, maybe there's some subtle cultural thing I'm missing here), and if somebody has something nice to say about your outfit, it always has to be a man. Actually I think I've never received a compliment on my outfit from a Japanese lady in 10+ years I've been here, but today's been that very first time, 1 out of 4 people that complimented my cardigan was a woman! Hip hip hooray! Now I feel like a superstar. 😂🥳
Cardigan - Sezane

Love the pink and the grey @supernova1234!

@Sooverthemill in my head I always have you down as the voice of reason and absolutely love "least said soonest mended". I've not heard the expression before but applicable on so many occasions. On that basis that is all I will say on that particular matter 😁.

@toucaninjapan the trousers are pleather and I've had them for years. Agree that leather/pleather does seem to be having a bit of a "moment" and I think it works so well in winter with a chunky knit. I'm currently hankering after a wide leg pair (any recommendations for my short legs from anyone would be gratefully received!) and also a skirt (tempted by a mini but will probably stick to a longer length). Workplace is quite varied - some are in jeans and trainers, others are fully suited and booted (particularly those in client facing roles), and most fall somewhere in between so smart but often with trainers, or if wearing jeans they are black and worn with nice boots/ballet pumps. I quite like that work and home clothes have become almost interchangeable, I think @OublietteBravo you mentioned that the other day as well.

😂’the voice of reason’! Please tell that to my DH. Thank you @Cardigansalltheway .

wearing my new hand knit with all the ends sewn in last night now it’s been blocked ( technical term for soaking and pinning out wet to correct measurements). I really love this

jumper: knitted by Me
jeans: agolde
trainers: veja ( extraordinarily comfortable now after a dozen wears or more waist for me than breaking in proper shoes)
tee under: Sézane

Waist? Wtf. EASY

OublietteBravo · 04/01/2023 10:20

Yes that was me @Cardigansalltheway.

My workplace is definitely quite casual, and I do feel that the dress code has become more relaxed in the 15+ years I’ve worked there. You just don’t see ties/jackets/heels anymore. (P)leather trousers/leggings would be fine. No one would bat an eyelid. I’ve seen women in dungarees, men in running shorts, and both men and women in ripped jeans over the past year.

I guess a large part of that is due to the extended period of WFH during Covid. I fought to go back to the office after about 14 months of WFH, but they only opened the site properly in May 2022 - so many people were WFH for over 2 years! Even now we only have to go in for 40% of our time (I tend to do 60-80% in the office).

I’m still on annual leave this week, so not thinking about work wear.

The jumper is very pretty @Sooverthemill. Was the patterned bit very tricky to knit?

It was really easy

toastfiend · 04/01/2023 14:33

Another brilliant creation @Sooverthemill and love your outfit @toucaninjapan!

Nothing much to show for me today - 2 weeks off seems to have been enough to render me totally out of practice with the nursery run and general morning routine so I'm in hurriedly thrown on jeans and a hoodie today.

The denim jumpsuits arrived - think I'm actually going to keep the tighter fitting one rather than the one I originally tried. Also ordered 2 things I've had my eye on today - have been wondering if they'd go into the sale as they were a bit too spendy full price, so jumped on them when they did!

Reiss dress
Me + Em jumpsuit

We've got a party to go to soon that's black tie, so I'm hoping one of them might be suitable. If anyone has seen a neck tie blouse similar to the one the model is wearing with the Me+Em jumpsuit then please let me know! I love it but the pink is sold out and I don't really want to pay the best part of £130 for the black or cream when they're pretty ubiquitous. Open to any colour suggestion that will go with the pink. If you've seen anything on your Internet travels then any suggestions gratefully received - I've been searching but not much luck so far, most of the bows are tiny and will be drowned out, or the blouses are super ruffled, which I don't want.

Great outfits @Cardigansalltheway and @toucaninjapan!

@Sooverthemill - you should do knitting tutorials on YouTube. I would love to have the patience to learn!

@toucaninjapan amazing outfit today no wonder you got compliments you look gorgeous 😍
@Cardigansalltheway love that skirt
@OublietteBravo fab camos
@EnoBaby do you now what knitting just isn't that hard, at first you think it's hard to get your head around but once you get going and get the hang of the first few rows your away it really is easy, my dd 9 does knitting and crochet she has made some amazing things so far little cuddly toys for her brothers, hats, scarves, gloves, we do it together but granted my dd is better than me (im only on my second patchwork blanket)😅 we learnt via "so woolly" on YouTube the women is fantastic and really knows her stuff and her voice is sooo soothing, so you find yourself relaxing into it!
You should defo give it ago! Love the trousers by the way

Sickoffamilydrama · 04/01/2023 20:45

Oh @toastfiend I've had my eye 👁️ on both of those they will look great on you.

Sooverthemill · 05/01/2023 06:47

@EnoBaby as @Puddinandpie says, the physical task of sticking pointed needles into yarn and making a stitch isn't hard. It takes a lot of of practice to get to always make the same size stitch each time and to learn all the different stitches and techniques. I learned the basics age 7 along with all the girls in my class at school while the boys were doing something else ( no idea what, never asked). I made a pink and grey rabbit. Next age 9 was a tea cosy. Then age 15 a jumper. The tricky thing is to be able to produce a garment that is the size you want and that is exactly like the pattern design ( if that what you want) or to learn how to modify for different yarns, weights and gauge. I've taught loads of people to knit and will happily suggest a first garment for you to have a go? I also know of online classes and tutorials I can suggest ( or we can FaceTime!). There is a fab follow along with a great yarn shop I often buy from for a really simple raglan sweater that I considered getting for my DSs GF here that would produce you a really wearable first jumper! I know people often start with scarves or blankets but a jumper is so much more satisfying. My first garment I knitted from scratch was a jumper from vogue knitting which I wore for about 10 years solid!

Greyhairwarmheart · 05/01/2023 07:27

I started knitting again in lockdown but mainly make blankets and baby cardigans so the size doesn't really matter. Knitting jumpers is much more difficult. Some great ideas to help there @Sooverthemill . Lovely outfit @toucaninjapan . I'm not surprised you got compliments. Gorgeous jumper @Sooverthemill . Yesterday top mint velvet, culottes toast.

Thanks @Sooverthemill! I'm going to check out some tutorials and try something little first of all. But I'd love to be able to knit a sweater at some point.

toucaninjapan · 05/01/2023 07:53

Okay ladies, I need your opinions!
Do these leather trousers look like they are my size? Or do they appear a bit small?

I got interested why I've never seen anybody in Japan wear leather trousers, so did a bit of research (googling and asking DH for his expert opinion, lol).
Turns out this garment apparently does not fit into the desired "female look"/ yurufuwa "light and airy" concept (think flared skirts, voluminous tops, neutral colors, fluffy fur balls as bag charms, everything cute, romantic and maybe a tad childish). Leather trousers look too cool and "assertive" to most people apparently. Also you need to be really confident about your body to wear something like this (DH words). 🤷‍♀️

Another outfit repeat with different jeans. Rather unusually DH asked if I was having an affair with the dentist as my outfit was so nice! We are going out later to do more viewings so I thought I’d make an effort!
