Hello, any recommendations for smoothing shapewear brands to go under a formal dress. Just want to look really smooth and not lumpy haha

If you've found this page in search of shapewear that has been tried and tested by fellow Mumsnet users, you might find our guide to the best shapewear useful. Hope this helps! MNHQ

I suggest you forget control knickers and try the M&S shaping slip. great for a smooth line and far easier when you need a wee.

I’ve just bought a shapewear body from skims on net a Porter for a slightly sheer dress I got for Christmas. Even though it’s Kim kardashian’s label, and I am no fan of hers, the range is really nice.

second the M&S suggestion, or oddly the sainsburys own brand are pretty good. Don’t go for super sucky in, more smoothing.

Spanx.

I’ve got this one which is the best I’ve found (tried far too many). It is comfy and makes me look far less lumpy than I actually am.

I refuse to wear anything uncomfortable. Under those circumstances, I wouldn’t want to go out. I like the John Lewis own brand slip. It dips under your bra, just gently shaping everything under it.

MotherOfFireBreathers · 07/11/2022 22:24

@StarlightLady does the slip work on the hip/thigh area as well as stomach? Does it stay in place and not roll up?

I usually get the thigh slimmer control shorts but they are do I comfy and tend to roll down

I had good luck with miraclesuit’s slip shapewears, I use it under tight dresses. They smooth things out nicely without making you feel super constricted. Haven’t had any weird lumps or edging through seams. Just make sure you try one on ahead of time so you know it sits right under your dress!
