Ooh, I have never worn leather trousers. Is there an age cut-off, @frillseeking ?

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 23/11/2022 21:30

Pear shaped size 14, need to travel to a multi day work conference in a cold country. Heels difficult as very cold and snowy, what outfits work with my size and ankle boots? Thanks

frillseeking · 23/11/2022 21:35

@ScribblingPixie absolutely not! Leather is a classic and can be worn at any age 👍🏻

Exciting! I'll follow your advice & try some on, thank you very much!

frillseeking · 24/11/2022 10:07

@AllIwantforChristmas22 depending on how smart you have to go but I think a long flat boot would be the most flattering and would look best with a dress. The jumper dress is the most casual but you could wear with a camel wool coat if you need to be smart and the stripe at the top half of the dress is flattering for a pear shape. I personally would go for the printed dress and a long wool coat with scarf. You could even add a jumper over the top of the dress and add a thin belt if it's going to be super cold. I also love the shape of the green knitted dress and the proportions are good for a pear- wider neckline, small waist and skims over the hips. This style would look nice with a little leopard print belt perhaps and then pair back with black tights and a long smart black wool coat.

I have this 80s / 90s sequin shift dress, similar to the one pictured - it's fairly close fitting - can I style this for a Christmas party to look good and modern or vintage cool, or do I need to forget it and start again? I will need tights and don't do heels.

This is the thread I’ve been looking for all my life 💗
Thank you for taking the time to do it, it’s so informative and such brilliant ideas.

My request is for a show stopping dress, reasonable cost would go absolute max £200 but preferably much less.

It must have sleeves to bracelet length or long sleeves.
Would love Bardot neckline or something like that.

For a wedding, it will be a very dressy occasion but not particularly designer dressy, think wedding outfits/boutiques.

I’m a size 12 possibly a 10, bit of a tummy, 5ft 6. I’ve lost a tremendous amount of weight over this year and have always worn flowy/bohemian style and I’d love to shake it up with a more fitted body forming look but something I can dance in too, I’m in my forties. Classy a little bit sexy, black is ok for this wedding.

I’d love to look fantastic and kind of stand out but not in a sequin way just a gorgeous dress.

Ive been looking at hiring websites but am a bit reluctant seems more reliable to buy. Been looking in Oasis, Wallis, JL - all has to be by mail order as not near anything.

I’ll need a hat 🫣 love something dramatic.

Where are you based?

I’ll be checking this thread very excited to see your recommendations and thank you

Absolutely love this thread. I've always wanted to use a stylist but I've always been worried they'll put me in something I don't like and it'll cost me a fortune. You've been amazing. Is there something for the ordinary folks like me?

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 24/11/2022 14:10

@frillseeking thank you so much. You are so kind. I struggle to find long boots for my fat calves but have been dreaming about a pair forever.

frillseeking · 24/11/2022 14:34

@Tigofigo love the dress! You can definitely style it up. For a quirky vibe, it would look super cool with spotty tights and chunky loafers but for an easier look, I'd go sheer 20 denier tights and some sparkly flats like these. Or if you want to add some colour, have a look on asos, there are lots of lovely party flats on there

@AllIwantforChristmas22 have a look at Erica Davies collection at John Lewis. It's specifically designed for wider calves and has had excellent reviews. These ones would be great in the snow! www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-erica-davies-violetta-leather-wide-calf-flat-long-boots-black/p6337765

@jinbar thank you so much. I think a lot of people feel like this, that's why I started doing my job to be honest, I wanted it to be accessible and show people you don't have to have lots of money or be super fashionable to have a stylist. Sometimes clients are scared to give their input but it should be a collaboration and you want to feel like the best version of yourself, not a completely different person. In terms of £, a session starts at £50 for 5 outfits. Thanks!

@Serenitesanta thank you, glad you're enjoying the thread. That sounds like a great opportunity to dress up and also to show off your hard work!

www.flannels.com/self-portrait-scallop-edge-midi-dress-322167#colcode=32216715 love this brand, they're amazing for occasionwear and you're guaranteed to feel sexy in one of their styles

A classic, occasionwear number, this is a real show stopper

A little more contemporary, this is a great cut so would show off your figure beautifully:

I think the embellished loafers @frillseeking recommended are in the Zara app sale tonight - or very similar. Just spotted them.

Sooverthemill · 24/11/2022 18:20

I have bought a Meand Em leather skirt link which I love and have ideas for 'fancy' but want to know how to style it for every day. Ideas?

DuncanBiscuits · 24/11/2022 18:44

@Sooverthemill that’s absolutely gorgeous.

Ooh thanks was thinking spotty tights already, but with chunky boots... Will look at loafers too. Thank you!

itsmeagainagain · 24/11/2022 20:59

this thread is amazing! Ok so I'm a size 14 pear shape and have just ordered some mint velvet faux leather leggings after reading great reviews. I want a top that I can wear over them but it has to be long enough to cover my bum preferably cut higher at the front but if not will do a bit of a tuck maybe.. It doesn't have to be mega dressy but something I could wear out for dinner and dress up with accessories. I'd ideally like something white or cream like a silk shirt type but I like edgy details like zips or a leopard trim. I also like a structured or puff shoulder to balance my pear shape. I have been trawling online cannot find anything I like the look of! any ideas?

Serenitesanta · 25/11/2022 03:19

Thank you so much for your suggestions, I’d great fun looking at all the links.

Am up with a poorly child.

Although I love each one I don’t think any are quite right for this wedding.

I love the self portrait one but the outline around the boob area wouldn’t go down well with my aunts/religious side of things.

The Adrienne P is so pretty but I feel a little on the evening wear side.

I know another family member is wearing a dress with feathers so I feel I can’t also otherwise I would’ve ordered the Coast one, it’s beautiful just to try it on, I’ve never worn a form fitted dress like that, would need the right under garments also.

I wish I could go somewhere to be fitted from my hat down, there is definitely a market for this, the personal shoppers in JL are great but not everyone can get there and they’re brand restricted. But. That won’t help atm, I’ll keep looking and I love reading others suggestions too. Might start a thread to widen the pool of ideas. By the way I love that leather midi and the knit green Boden dress.
Thank you again

themessygarden · 25/11/2022 07:30

@frillseeking can you help with a crossbody bag suggestion.

I love my designer bags, particularly Prada, but since an accident that caused a herniated disc, I am finding I can't carry a bag or wear a shoulder bag, so all my bags are sitting in the closet and I am using an old Bogner cross body, which is really practical, because it's got zipped pockets, zipped pocket on the outside and slip in pockets on the outside. I can't seem to find similar cross body in a nice designer bag, any suggestions.

by the way, I love the Aspinal bag you linked, but don't know if I can wear a heavy chain strap either.

Boshi · 25/11/2022 08:18

Hi @frillseeking thank you for doing this, I’ve loved reading all your suggestions and I’ve bagged a pair of the otherstories kitten heels you posted earlier, they’re gorgeous

Just wondering if you can suggest any blazers for me, I’m an hourglass with a tummy since giving birth, size 12 now, will be 8-10 by next feb fingers crossed 😀 what shape of blazers are in atm?

I like sequin and velvet blazers but will they stand the test of time? Is the oversized shape still in and how can I make that work for a busty (30G 😭) hourglass? Thanks!

frillseeking · 25/11/2022 18:59

@Sooverthemill absolutely gorgeous skirt and a true investment piece that will stand the test of time. As it's a real hero piece, I've styled it as a blow the budget option with a gorgeous Sezane blouse and cream boots. I'd also like to see it with a cream Aran style jumper and riding boots. I've also attached some other inspo ideas. I think it would look great with a statement piece of knitwear too. Enjoy wearing it!
