Oooh…I’ve just discovered this wonderful thread. 😻 Now watching.

Sooverthemill · 25/11/2022 19:37

@frillseeking thank you! Cream boots are a bit out of my comfort zone but I will look. I have a silk ecru Sézane blouse already and a Sézane white chunky knit too. Had t thought of those. Great ideas, thank you. I only want to keep it if it gets worn a lot!

frillseeking · 25/11/2022 20:31

@Sooverthemill your wardrobe sounds amazing! Thinking ahead to SS, you could wear with a statement tshirt, denim jacket and trainers. So many different options as it's not too dressy to wear every day but special enough to wear dressed up for a night out or event.

Great thread! I want some converse to wear with slogan tee, blazer and jeans for casual lunches/evenings out. But teen DD has just discovered converse and I don't want to twin with her (or rather she doesn't with me, more!). What other trainers do you think would work? Or would boots work as an alternative?

frillseeking · 25/11/2022 22:28

@itsmeagainagain this one is a challenge! I can't find exactly what you're after but actually the options I have found are all from mint velvet! https://www.mintvelvet.co.uk/products/beige-metallic-v-neck-top I love the trim detail as it dresses it up a bit and it's got the length to cover the bum. And this one https://www.mintvelvet.co.uk/products/zip-front-metallic-shirt?prproddstrat=copurchase&prreccid=ed90675c3&prreccpid=7319576969375&prreffpid=7339259855007&pr_seq=uniform

@themessygarden I'm a big fan of the cross body too, I've had the Gucci disco for years and the YSL Lou Lou is next on my list. https://m.cricket-fashion.com/product/black-lou-quilted-camera-bag/16587833cricketfashiongb/?istCompanyId=123ab005-3bf8-4bc7-bd6f-f63bf9ac2b3d&istFeedId=fd126e13-3716-4069-9a91-b6edf69503b9&istItemId=riiwtpmwr&istBid=t&gbraid=0AAAAAo8cNXq8Xkl-zIvkXRCL0HJIw98AG&gclid=CjwKCAiA7IGcBhA8EiwAFfUDsXCtZvIY8Ev27nHEEoxJaqU6ZNGMkkatn4N8VDV2kiUNvvZUdVT4YxoCuDQQAvDBwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Prada do have a nylon one in their range:
https://www.flannels.com/prada-nylon-shoulder-bag-773782#colcode=77378203

Love this Gucci one www.net-a-porter.com/en-gb/shop/product/gucci/bags/cross-body/horsebit-1955-small-textured-leather-shoulder-bag/2204324140699388 a beautiful classic

They also do a fabric strap in a similar style if that might be more comfortable www.net-a-porter.com/en-gb/shop/product/gucci/bags/cross-body/horsebit-1955-textured-leather-shoulder-bag/15546005222270932

Not had a chance to read the full thread - really brilliant advice so thank you for starting - but please can you suggest a go-to dress that could be pulled out of my wardrobe for a party/nice dinner somewhere. Going to a friend's 60th in Feb and utterly clueless as I always seem to get the dress code so wrong for these events (always feel over or underdressed and never comfortable). 50s, size 12, 5'8, biggish boobs so no high necks, good arms/shoulders and a bit of a waist so should be easy, but hate anything fussy/ruffles/bows/tiers/ditsy prints, so needs to be fairly plain, preferably blue. Would be great to have a go-to item in my wardrobe for a party. Get overwhelmed by so much choice out there. Thank you!

Newlychosencatservant · 26/11/2022 07:57

Great thread, thank you!
My question is, how to style a silver sequin midi skirt for both casual and going out. Thanks

frillseeking · 26/11/2022 15:17

@Gufo your message me laugh :). For a classic, smart trainer you can't go wrong with Vejas. I wear mine with jeans, long dresses and skirts - they're just a really good, all round trainer that feels on trend but classic. My dream trainer if money were no object would these high tops which have a bit of a dunk vibe. Equally, you could wear an ankle boot like these Marant inspired ones or the western style boots that are on trend at the moment - love the metallic ones such as these but you can't go wrong with this kind of shape.

Any ideas i'm 5'3 mid fifities and would love a new denim skirt not maxi or mini, am size 16 ideally under £50 i prefer zip to all buttons needs real pockets that looks stylish but still practical

I love your thread though some great advice without assuming everyone has oodles of cash spare

Bookaholic73 · 26/11/2022 17:25

This thread is amazing, thanks for starting it.

I’m on a budget but would like a good quality blazer. Something with a pop of colour, since I will mainly wear it with black skinny jeans and black knee high boots.

Also, where can I invest in some good quality t shirts (long sleeved and short).

Thank you so much!

faffadoodledo · 26/11/2022 18:47

Jumpers! I want to ask DH for some really good quality chunky, bright coloured jumpers for Xmas. What looks great and wears well?

Thanks so much - will have a good browse now!

themessygarden · 26/11/2022 20:48

@frillseeking Thank you SO much. I like the Prada one, think that would be light enough to wear on a daily basis. I do love the YSL one too, might go and try that one for size too.

Am following all you suggestions and absolutely love your style suggestions, you are very talented.

Geranium1984 · 27/11/2022 01:18

Hi! 5ft 4', petite, usually wear tailored woollen thigh length coats in winter but have just moved to a small countryside town and am in need of a warm puffer style long coat for pram walks and playgrounds.

Any recommendations that won't have me looking like a Michelin mam. Would rather not black, it looks terrible on me!

Thanks xx

gva12345 · 27/11/2022 11:21

@frillseeking I have sent you a PM.

frillseeking · 27/11/2022 15:09

@Geranium1984 Yes you definitely have to be careful with some of the puffers out there, some of them are so padded they make you look twice the size and you can barely move!

This one from Hobbs petite range is lovely with the shaped waist panels for a more flattering fit and it's in the sale.

Or this kind of style Next petites range is more flattering as its more of a lightweight padded style and has the diagonal seaming at the waist to slim the waist and comes in several different colours.

Also this one from Oasis. Hope that helps!

I'm pregnant (early) and love the lurex mango dress from earlier in the thread but none in my size, can you recommend something similar that'll be forgiving over the stomach?
I'm also wondering if some elasticated waist faux leather trousers/joggers could be a chic alternative to maternity leggings and cotton jogging bottoms, any recommendations? Thanks!

frillseeking · 27/11/2022 15:47

@faffadoodledo Cos have some amazing, brightly coloured knitwear such as this neon green style and this gorgeous pink cable knit piece but they do sell out quickly.

Also have a look at Other Stories as they have some beautiful knitwear in at the moment such as this orange style.

For something a little more fashion forward, have a look at Jigsaw- love this style.

And Free People - here. Just depends if that your look. I also love British designer Hayley Menzies for a special investment piece. Hope that helps!

@Cottagecheeseisnotcheese I've found a few options for you. This simple midi one from Fatface at John Lewis. A slightly shorter style from Crew Clothing with nice topstitching detail here. And this one from H&M - here. I also love this one from Whistles but think it may be a little too long
