Every one is wearing Camera bag?

In last few days anywhere I went I noticed lots ladies are wearing cool little bags with colourful straps. There was this cool lady in my local Boots yesterday swinging this black bag with leopard strap, I couldn’t stop looking at!

Thinking how come on earth I don’t know about these as I’m usually bags mad.
I googled it up and it apparently it’s called a Camera bag.
Anyone here has a nice one?
I’m on a quite a low budget …
I am eying one up in TU ( Sainsburys) a Accessories has few too I like..
Is this just a short lived trend?

I'd say that trend must be coming to an end now? I did buy one in the spring but haven't used it much as I find it sits awkwardly and is too boxy in shape, oh well.

MovingOnUpp · 01/11/2022 14:41

I have lots of these crossbody bags, they hang at just the right length to get my phone or purse out. I don’t have the thick strap ones you mentioned but ones on part chain, part leather strap. I saw these on Etsy (photo attached).
The only downsize is you can’t fit a lot in them such as a bottle of water. I can fit glasses, carrier bag, small purse and phone in mine.

Im thinking getting one from TU, don’t want to spend a loads as no work atm.
Its probably the interchangeable strap what caught my eye..

Most people I know who got them around this time last year. I think a passing trend.
Ellie Beaumont ones were popular, and still selling locally - that said our local town isn’t exactly a style and beauty hotspot.

BarbaraofSeville · 01/11/2022 15:13

You can get the straps on ebay for less than the naice boutique places like Ellie Beaumont sell them for.

I bought one a few months ago and came to the conclusion that lots of places import the same bags from some mega factory and personalise them with their own colour/strap combination.

The prices varied quite a lot from around £50 to close to £150 what appeared to be the same bag.

MovingOnUpp · 01/11/2022 15:14

There are lots on eBay for about £25.

LaurieFairyCake · 01/11/2022 15:57

I now only wear crossbody bags. I have one camera bag I like the look of (it's a Marc jacobs one) but actually the zip hurt to get stuff out of

The softer shapes are better

Blossomandbee · 01/11/2022 16:05

Pom Pom bags look nice and you can buy interchangeable straps. They're pricey but not hugely so I believe.
I like them, I only really use crossbody bags. Camera bags have been in for a while but I don't think they'll really date.

thedevilinablackdress · 01/11/2022 16:26

If you like them, it doesn't matter if it's a 'passing trend' or not. Get it while it's going if you like it, or ignore it if you don't is my view on fashion.

Rosenotred · 01/11/2022 16:32

I have one of these but it's all black. I've had it around 2 years, it's my go to bag when I need to rush out during the day. The material is durable and the strap is really comfy and light weight.

Look for nearly new or new with tags on Vinted if you don’t want to spend too much. Oliver Bonas do good versions of these.

LoobyDop · 01/11/2022 18:21

I have one that’s a bit larger than the standard size, and it’s brilliant. Doesn’t look like a big bag, but because of the shape and the zip it fits absolutely loads in without bulging and without exploding when I root around in it. I have two colours of stripy straps plus the leather one it came with, and I’ll be using it for a long time, whether it’s in fashion or not.

WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere · 01/11/2022 18:25

I love a camera bag. I'd like different colours but I'm on a budget so I bought a nice, black leather bag off ebay for around £25 and I buy straps in different colours. Straps also off ebay

Squiz81 · 01/11/2022 20:22

I have the TU one and it’s perfect. I like the fact there isn’t loads of pockets (some have 2 zipped compartments) makes it easier to find stuff. On a day out recently I fit my purse, phone, sunglasses, and a fine knit jumper! I also get a small reusable water bottle in it

Isabelle70 · 01/11/2022 20:25

I got one in lilac on holiday, made in Italy from leather. It was about €30 and I am sure you can find similar on eBay. It came with a leather strap but I have got a thicker webbing strap for a bit of comfort for when I use it on holiday next year.

AlwaysFoldingWashing · 01/11/2022 20:28

I have a few and really like them- good size for essentials, means I can't carry too much rubbish and can keep my hands free

imnotthatkindofmum · 01/11/2022 20:30

I have one I got from tk mass with a cami style strap and a quilted body. I don't care if I'm late to the party I live it, perfect size and style! And it was only £16.

gianfrancogorgonzola · 01/11/2022 20:33

I have a vintage LV one from the late 90s which I love and is SO useful.

MovingOnUpp · 01/11/2022 21:14

I think they’ll be around for a while, we’ll I am
not going back to any other type of handbag.

Lallybroch · 01/11/2022 21:21

I've changed over to this style of bag as I have a bad back, so only use backpacks and cross body now. I've got a navy, black and neutral and reckon that should cover me for all occasions. I also don't care if they are fashionable or not as they suit me and I like them. I currently don't tend to swap the straps about but might be tempted to buy a couple of the simpler designs just for a change.

Riverlee · 01/11/2022 21:23

If this trend is coming to an end, what’s replacing it?

Shallysally · 01/11/2022 21:26

I love mine, also late to the party! It’s a Pompom one, cost around £100 which is the most I have ever spent on a bag but I’ll use it forever!

oobedobe · 01/11/2022 21:31

i brought a stripey camera bag type strap off amazon last year, did the job of up dating a bag I already had

TerrifyingGhostTrain · 01/11/2022 21:31

Someone has posted pretty much the same thread before, quite some time ago?

I remember being surprised back then as I was thinking “camera bags & interchangeable straps are SO over” (not that I care personally, but in fashion terms they kinda were already over!)

there’s been several trends or mini trends since, waist bags but worn over one shoulder, boxy tweed bags, mini 90s bags with thin strap, duffle bags… Grin
