I love this dress, what occasions would you wear it for?

I have a few things coming up over Christmas with different groups so I could get away with the same outfit for all of them.

I think I'm prone to under dressing/playing safe and I'm looking to up my game. Which occasions would you wear this for ?

Special dinner?
Ordinary dinner?
Christmas drinks in pub?
Dinner and dancing?
Theatre and drinks?

Or is this dress too safe as well? I think the back brings it out of work dress territory, but is it still too close to a work dress? I'm thinking it could go with heels (or more likely for me in the real world) block heel ankle boots or flat knee high boots. Even chunky ankle boots?

It’s nice but looks quite summery to me, it’s quite work dress at the front, can imagine wearing it to a smart lunch, a smart drinks do, a gallery opening, a wedding.. that sort of daytime party. Too formal for drinking and dancing or the pub - but anyway you’d freeze your tits off in winter.

Also as a by the by I think you’d have to be narrow of shoulder, small to medium of bosom, small of waist and flat of stomach or you would look very broad and sturdy,

Wagtastic · 29/10/2022 23:12

It's very dressy
It's lovely
I'd wear it to all of those occasions
I'm.more likely to overdress
Be lovely (to me) for theatre, posh meal, Xmas do

Whitney168 · 29/10/2022 23:14

Lovely summer dress - no prayer of getting a jacket of any sort over those sleeves for winter.

I am tall and slim, flat chested, my waist is my best feature! I'm also 52 and hoping this has a hint of sexy whilst remaining classy?

I was thinking I could wear it with a biker style jacket or my good wool coat?

Most Christmas dos are too hot anyway? It no less chilly than most evening dresses?

A Taylor Swift concert? It's very... red.

redbigbananafeet · 29/10/2022 23:22

It made me think of Handmaids Tale

Brandyb · 29/10/2022 23:22

With your dimensions, I think you'd rock it! Just get it already

BlueBar · 29/10/2022 23:24

Is that a bad thing?

It does come in other colours but I don't think it's a party frock in them. Maybe it's not anyway. Red is a good colour on me and for a change I feel.like standing out.

Only thing is you can only bring it out occasionally, everyone will definitely remember it. I think it's gorgeous

I don't mind bringing out a dress I look fab in again, even the royals do it these days 😆

But I do have a few things to go to that involve different people

Buy the dress if you love it. Life is too short to try to please others.

Try it on. If you love it where it where ever you want.

TottersBlankly · 29/10/2022 23:32

Halloween Grin If you go around saying things like “my good wool coat” in public you’ll sound twice 52!

I’m ancient by comparison but would want something more fashion-directiony - yours is a bit ingratiating to me. So for most of those occasions I’d want an oversized brushed cotton tartan shirt over it. And some big furry mules. (Not for the dancing, perhaps!)

WeAreTheHeroes · 29/10/2022 23:32

I'd wear it - my kind of thing too. It's lovely.

Greycatclub · 29/10/2022 23:33

Handmaids Tale for me too!

Even my teens are over furry mules 😆

In that case I think you have your dress 💫

ManefesationofConciousness · 29/10/2022 23:41

It’s a very orangery red and so I likely to suit many skin tones , I also think the colour stopd it being sexy as orange is teen skater colour

TottersBlankly · 29/10/2022 23:47

My colouring is different but I’d probably go for something like this. Looks more thrown on, not dressed up.
