I love this dress, what occasions would you wear it for?

I have a few things coming up over Christmas with different groups so I could get away with the same outfit for all of them.

I think I'm prone to under dressing/playing safe and I'm looking to up my game. Which occasions would you wear this for ?

Special dinner?
Ordinary dinner?
Christmas drinks in pub?
Dinner and dancing?
Theatre and drinks?

Or is this dress too safe as well? I think the back brings it out of work dress territory, but is it still too close to a work dress? I'm thinking it could go with heels (or more likely for me in the real world) block heel ankle boots or flat knee high boots. Even chunky ankle boots?

I agree, looks lovely for the summer with strappy sandals. Just can’t see it working in the winter. Definitely get it for the summer though, I think I will! I’d wear it for day/early evening drinks with friends, sightseeing on holiday (looks lovely and cool), the park/picnics on a weekend.

I am tall and slim, flat chested, my waist is my best feature! I'm also 52 and hoping this has a hint of sexy whilst remaining classy?

I was going to ask what shape you are cos I was coming on to say I'd wear it.
I am also 52 and the same shape as you. That neck line looks nice on women with small chests. The length works well if you're tall, and the pleats are really flattering. I wouldn't wear red, but that's just personal choice. I think if it was sleeveless it would make it more of a party dress, but with party shoes etc it'll work.

@TottersBlankly that looks like you've gone out in your pjs to me!

@BlueBar it's a lovely structured dress. I'd wear it wherever I felt like 🙂

My colouring is different but I’d probably go for something like this. Looks more thrown on, not dressed up.

Goodness, that really does look thrown on. Sorry, it looks like a bed sheet or a shroud!

sausage767 · 30/10/2022 00:18

Love the red dress, if I saw that in a store I’d probably buy it. I’d wear it with sandals only though, boots would be far too heavy. And you can’t wear a coat over that, you’d crush the sleeves.

TottersBlankly · 30/10/2022 00:18

🤷🏽‍♀️Halloween Grin I honestly could never wear a flouncy red dress! But that’s ok - if the red dress is your style OP, I’m sure you’ll look great in it.

This is the least sexy, flattering or fun dress in the history of womankind. Even the model looks crap, and her boobs look appalling.

Is that a joke?

Catflapping · 30/10/2022 00:45

I have a very similar from H&M two years ago, I’ve worn it on Christmas Day twice, Christmas drinks with friends and to the theatre. I love it because it’s festive without being to sparkly!

Allsnotwell · 30/10/2022 00:50

I like it! Maybe some bright pink shoes? Or even orange ones!

SarahDippity · 30/10/2022 01:44

I think it’s gorgeous but it’s such a statement dress that it would be instantly memorable and hard to get multiple wears out of. The cape makes it hard to wear a coat or jacket over. I love the lean silhouette; you need near boobs and a slim torso to not look bulky with the round neckline. I have a dress in a similar colour and it always gets fantastic comments because I really stand out in it … but lately I’ve been wearing a very inexpensive tiered black dress and going for really striking accessories and in cost-per-wear it has been a steal.

I think you could dress this up or down depending on what you wore it with and how you did your hair and make up.

Unfortunately I can’t wear because my boobs are too big

Bunce1 · 19/11/2022 08:43

The sleeves say summer to me.

Marynotsocontrary · 19/11/2022 08:51

I think it's really lovely OP. The back makes it quite dressy.

CaronPoivre · 19/11/2022 08:53

My daughter has this or one very similar. She’s worn it to supper parties, a work meal out and drinks that I know off.

coconotgrove · 19/11/2022 09:21

I have this dress. (FWIW, I'm 47).

I wore it a lot in the summer (with Converse high tops, flat sandals and heels). It is now packed away until next spring. It is, for me at least, a summer dress. I just could nor imagine wearing it in the winter not least because I prefer bare legs - if you're planning on wearing it with tights, given the weight of fabric, you would need to wear a slip under it otherwise it will cling. I do not think it is an ankle or even a knee length boot dress.

However, and by all means ignore me OP! The most important thing is that you love it, and if you do and think you will wear it, all our comments are completely moot.

Last time I wore something like that I was on a trolley being pushed to the operating theatre.

TortugaRumCakeQueen · 21/11/2022 12:56

Sorry, it is very plain and I don't like it at all.

dontgobaconmyheart · 21/11/2022 13:21

I think it's nice but would only wear that in the summer, it looks quite thin but would be lovely for that time of year for a number of occasions. I know it's red but can't imagine wearing it over winter or for Christmas, it just doesn't (to me) seem season appropriate.

pistachioicecream · 21/11/2022 13:40

I have this dress is blue and I wore it for a couple of summer black tie events. it can be dressed up or down quite easily. It is quite thin material as some people have said so was perfect when it was hot.

I also tried the red one but found it more orangey red than red red. So depends what you're looking for I think.

NegroniLover · 23/11/2022 13:38

I'm 52 and I have this dress in green! I have worn it out to dinner and to the theatre, during the summer.
I am also tall, slim and small of boob so the shape works very well on me. I love it

Notcontent · 23/11/2022 19:09

Lovely dress but super summery.

Pinkcadillac · 23/11/2022 19:49

Definitely a summer dress. I like it.
