Does an epilator hurt?

Considering getting myself one, so sick of shaving! Tried waxing but it hurt a lot. How painful is an epilator compared to waxing? Or are there other methods that give longer results than shaving that I haven't considered? Legs are particularly very hairy with dark hair, usually have to shave every 3-4 days over summer.

I don't find it painful at all. I'd say if hurts less than waxing but over a longer period as waxing quite quick. Waxing professionally is a great finish but them you have regrowth period. Epilating you can just stay on top of and so you might be best to get waxed then stay on top of regrowth with an epilator. Very surprised other people say it hurts so much. Perhaps it's the make of epilator. Braun silk epil very effective and painless. I'd use s rechargeable wet dry one and just buy a basic model as the fancy one is just the same but with more silly attachments.

This. I think you get used to it fairly quickly. I just run it over legs in front of the tv, Underarms sting like a bugger though. It's the first time that hurts then just do the regrowth weekly. Start with a wax or a large glas of wine.

It gets easier, have been using mine for years now... Still remember the first time on my underarms though!! Shock

When I first started waxing I used to pre-emptively take paracetamol. That would help. A lumea is so expensive with variable results. I don't have dark enough hair to make a lumen work. It works best with dark hair and pale skin.

I think an epilator is worth persisting with until it hurts less. Maybe doing it in the bath at first might help.

Braun silk epil user here. Just my chin. Doesn't hurt. It's largely technique though. So hair not too long, keep skin taught. I did try it wet once though and I ended up with basically burn marks on my chin. That none asked me about. And they were really obvious and formed two lines about 1.5"long by 1/2" wide ...

It's a mixed bag. If you can get the hang of it it's liberating for armpits as they will last ages though it stings a bit. Tops of thighs also great and hair more sparse there so doesn't hurt as much. Ditto back of legs and forearms. BUT lower legs Jesus Christ the ingrown hairs ffs never again.
