So I’ve been eyeing up this coat for ages

but didn’t have my size but did this week.it arrived today and dh has done nothing but take the piss. “Oh it’s not the prettiest coat, is it supposed to be trendy? When I looked at a coat like that you said it was awful” (no he didn’t and neither did I) Just snipey things. Then when I said anything he’s “just having a joke, I can’t have a laugh.” yeah ok, I’m 64, I’m short, fat and no longer “trendy, I don’t go anywhere much except walking to work or dog walking. The coat is really warm, but if he’s going to be mean, I may as well send it back. (He’s not being tight btw, he’s always saying I never treat myself to anything. His dad was like that, as he likes to remind me, always being cruel about anything he wore out of the ordinary. It’s really got me down.

Nasty man. Why send it back? He’d only find other ways to be nasty to you, you may as well keep the coat you like.

That's a perfectly nice normal coat. Tell him to keep his unwanted opinions to himself and to stop being so bloody rude.

If my husband carried on like that I'd wear it in bed, every time he saw me I'd be wearing it. If you like it, keep it. I think it's fab.

If it’s warm it’s great for dog waking and pottering. The colour is not great though. What’s your colouring? The darker ones would suit most colourings.

The coat is lovely.

But your husband needs to understand how upsetting his comments are to you. If speaking to him about it doesn't work, could you go to couples therapy? If he's basically a good bloke who's learned some bad habits from a cruel father it would a shame to let it continue when it hurts you.

And if he is deliberately being cruel and enjoying it why would you want to be with him?

It's a coat. Completely inoffensive. Very plain. I don't see his problem.

I’ve gotten to the stage that if DH comments that he thinks something is dated or similar I know I’m on the right track as he has nooooo clue what is up to date or fashionable. He would have made a similar comment to yours probably. Thinks he’s being funny.

If you like it and feel good with it, then keep it.

ps, I bought a parka from amazon the other day and it's going back. It manages to be both loose and tight. That might be my figure !! But there has to be something more flattering out there.
